"The stately architecture alone is worth the trip to the aptly named Landmark Books, housed in an 1820s Greek Revival home that was nearly destroyed during the Civil War. You'll find more than 60,000 books throughout all the rooms, including plenty of Southern literature, rare maps, prints, and postcards. Don't leave without snagging a handful of vintage postcards—ideal souvenirs for the history lover in your life." - Margaret Littman

Google
Such a great bookstore! Just being there made me want to sit and read. Perfectly quaint and welcoming! Karen Kingsbury has been my favorite author for years. Being “on set” where one of her movies was filmed was a special treat!

Wonderful quintessential local book store. Very cozy and welcoming. If I was spending more time in Franklin, I would have lingered longer. Many books by local authors.

Google
Beautiful bookstore, full of a magical ambiance. Reminds me of my grandparent’s upstairs library, full of intellectual selections and classics. Absolutely in LOVE with this location! If you’re visiting Downtown Franklin, this location is an absolute MUST.

Google
Great book store! Went with a big group and the people working there were so nice and accommodating! Love the location and fun hallways lined with books! I absolutely loved the selection of authors and stories that they have chosen to sell and display! I felt like a character in a book as I wound through the halls and found all of the nooks and crannies stuffed with books! I would definitely come back if I visit Franklin again! You should definitely go check it out!

Google
Cutest bookstore! Friendly service. Great selection of books.

Google
Great bookstore in an old historic building that's at one of the coolest small towns in all of Tennessee. Excellent selection of all kinds of used books, including hardbacks, paperbacks, cookbooks, travel guides, historic books, maps and so much more. Small, but comfortable sitting area too

The history of the store itself was amazing. The amount of older books they have here was great to look through. The clerk was very patient with my daughter as she paid for her own book.

Google
Great visit tonight. I wish I live closer as this store is what all local book stores could be. Great mix of new, some used and also rare books. When I went in and saw the escape full of Wendell Berry books, I knew I was in a great store. Spent about an hour and a half, talking with the Katie who was working this evening. She asked me what types of books I like to read and gave me some other recommendations. Definitely a place to put on my list for each trip to Middle Tennessee.

Yelp
A must for bookworms when visiting Franklin. Just as you would expect in a non-chain bookstore with lots of charm and personal customer service. They have a good selection of books you won't find at the chain stores. Loved the local authors section. Only issue I had was the strong cigar smell. Might appeal to others who like it. Please visit this place.

Yelp
Very nice little shop. Stopped here first because of the Franklin walking tour. Went back the next day to explore more.

Yelp
Not sure I can do this bookstore the justice it deserves. Besides not having the right words or enough superlatives, I was just simply overwhelmed. I wish I had been better prepared with what to expect and more methodical in my approach. Upon entering I was greeted warmly by a young woman and we quickly launched into conversation about the usual: authors, books, independent bookstores, anything remotely related to literature (a very wide berth). It felt like we were old kindred spirits who could've continued talking forever as one topic segued to another. As I said, I was ill prepared so I didn't get a great handle on the organization of store. It seems that there are many of the first edition signed books interspersed throughout the store, not kept in one area as one might expect. Oh, I've neglected to mention that as I travel (road trip) through the country I stop at as many independent bookstores as I can to purchase a local author's works, bonus if signed, double bonus if 1st edition. So, I was lucky to find such a book here, as well as another one that will be the perfect gift for a friend!

Yelp
Excellent stock and excellent service. What more could anyone ask for? I also liked the organization of the store and it's layout.

Yelp
I have wanted to visit Landmark Booksellers since I found out it was the inspiration for the Bridge by Karen Kingsbury. It is a quaint little house with places to sit and be surrounded by books. I loved it.

Yelp
They have a great selection and an Awesome staff. It's a great place to escape for quiet.

Yelp
Okay, anyone who has read any of my reviews knows that I can spend hours alone just exploring and looking at the places and things that I love. Bookstores are absolutely no exception. When visiting in town, I really wanted to stop at this bookstore because that's kind of my jam, but also, I had an hour to kill and I can't ever think of a better time-suck than going to a bookstore. As I walked in, I was greeted by a friendly woman who asked if I needed any direction to head off into, and a man smoking his pipe. There is a combination of new and old books throughout the store. Some were very rare, and there is even a wonderful case of autographed books about halfway through the store. Some of the books I was most interested in were well out of my price range, but I was able to buy two new books about Southern writers and the South. There's also a great children's reading room in the back, with a wonderful collection for children of all ages. Overall, this is the kind of used bookstore one can really dream of, and if they have enough money, they can certainly enjoy some of the treasures within!

Yelp
Cozy. Welcoming. Full of choices. What a great little bookshop. I highly recommend visiting this place if you're in Franklin.

Yelp
Some of the nicest, most genuine people you will find anywhere. Landmark is a locally and family owned gem that truly emphasizes the pointlessness of driving to the corporate, grossly-overpriced monoliths.

Gene M.

Yelp
Great historic location with a wonder selection of items and books, especially if you are into American history.

Yelp
This place is located in downtown Franklin. Definitely has vintage, historic charm. Lots of books & rooms to explore. The staff is always nice too.

Yelp
Really unique book shop based in a Civil War-era building. Historical awesomeness aside, they had a great selection of books with some very unique finds, including some collectors finds. Also had a great selection of local reads to browse. Definitely recommend swinging by if you are in downtown Franklin!

Yelp
I LOVE bookstores. Shopping for books is one my favorite things. But Landmark isn't your everyday bookstore - most books are first editions, some signed - all expensive. Not really a great place for browsing for a good deal, but it has some very interesting books, including a collection of books by Southern authors, first editions, and signed books.

Yelp
Great shop! I love to shop local, give the little guy my business! My husband and I stopped in and were greeted by the awesome folks who the shop. So nice and helpful! We ended up taking advantage of their buy 2, get a 3rd book free deal!! Found the Outland Cookbook that keeps selling out ! We will be back!!!

Yelp
What an odd little bookstore. I've been in here a couple of times and never felt welcome. I can't say I've been to a store that 'hasn't wanted me to shop there' more than Landmark Booksellers. A terse "what are you looking for?" followed by a "we really don't have any of those." As I perused the books, I found a dozen of what I would be interested in, mostly overpriced signed copies. I love old bookstores. I want to love Landmark, but after a few times in, I don't have a compelling reason to return.

Yelp
I've been coming into this store for almost a decade to buy gifts for my family members and I love the owners. I went in today and talked to one of the owners about how I wanted my mom and I to host a family reunion here in Franklin and have everyone stay in the hotel next to the store. He offered to have has come into the store and tell my family about the history of Franklin, also offered to help set up tours of the plantations in downtown Franklin and to just have my mom call the store if she had any questions.

Yelp
Local bookstores have been hit or miss: for every Elder's Books that is well laid-out and has a lot of unique stuff, there's a Bookman/Bookwoman which is entirely disorganized, mired in its own political correctness, and apparently even unimpressed with itself. For every awesome experience that's McKay's, there's a discourteous and ridiculous Rhino Books. So I was concerned that Landmark might be extremely lame and lifeless, and at the first glance, it might be. But their normal stacks are pretty decent, and their children's section is actually really nice. But then they usher you into their back building, which has the appearance of an old old garage, but it's stacked with gobs and loads of books. It was delightful! In one of the old rooms, they have an area where you can get ten books for $20. Nice. I only chose one book, which was book of Norman Rockwell prints, but it was still only $5! Absolutely, check this place out!

Yelp
If you go on a ghost tour of Franklin, they'll probably take you by this establishment. It is supposedly haunted by ghosts (as are a lot of other buildings in downtown Franklin...), but that's not why I love this place! I love stopping in here from time to time! It feels so downtown Franklin, not to mention I love kitschy little bookstores. This one is pretty well stocked considering it's only two floors and in a not-super-huge building. I purchased a two-set of old Bronte sister novels...I think these were published in the 20s or 30s? They have a lot of classic literature titles, as well as numerous autographed novels (several Anne Rice novels!). They have a seperate room for the more domestic people out there; those who love to cook and garden, etc. There's another room for old pictures/magazines, as well as bio and autobiographical books. There's a LOVELY balcony on the second floor that overlooks Main Street, but it's only open in the warmer months of the year. Downstairs, there's a trolly in the parking lot that dishes up food, which I have not tasted, and several table and chair sets. The downstairs floor is filled with more historical books as well as travel books and older, first edition novels. They play host to author's book signings and poetry readings during the month as well. Overall, I love this store and I love coming in here when I have the chance.

Yelp
I am a book publisher--one of the most prominent independent history book publishers in the U. S. Joel at Landmark asked us to provide books for a book signing event in Franklin, TN in March of 2015. It totaled about $700 worth of books. He sold them all. He refuses to pay his bill, and he won't even take our administrative assistant's calls, and hides behind others who answer the phone. He doesn't even have the courtesy or courage to explain whatever his issue is and pay $20/a month. There is a name for a man like that, both one who hides behind others, and one who does not pay his bills. I would urge others not to do business with this establishment, or when you do, find a way and not pay his bill. He can now deal with a collection agency.

Yelp
What a great place to soak up historical Franklin, find a great book, receive extraordinary service and best of all ..... Know that great people privately own and operate this wonderful place. NOT YOUR ORDINARY BOOK STORE. This is the real America - at its heart! Joel and Carol are gems.

Yelp
This is a great bookstore for any and everyone! Collectors, new books, used books, children's books, they have it all, not to mention great local ownership. Step inside and check them out!

Yelp
Go. Go as fast as you can! Step back in time and soak it all in. Wonderful, beautiful, relaxing and the friendliest staff around. Wonderful local section. Enjoy!

Yelp
A nice, quaint bookstore housed in an historic building in downtown Franklin, TN. Owners Joel and Carol Tomlin are very welcoming and knowledgeable about the area. They sponsor book signings and know many of the authors whose books they sell. Their inventory includes a wide variety of books on many topics with emphasis on Tennessee, Civil War, the South, and local history. I bought three books I was very pleased to find. Keep in mind that this store has a number of one-of-a-kind books some of which are rare and expensive. It's not your typical Barnes & Noble box store where you can pick up something and expect the employees to put it back where it belongs. If you like small, independently owned bookshops with a lot of atmosphere and character this one is definitely worth visiting.

Yelp
I went into Landmark Booksellers originally because I needed somewhere to park on Mainstreet & Landmark has parking. Was very pleased when I went inside the historic looking building. There's a very warm and welcoming vibe inside. I browsed for about a half hour and came away with 5 books ranging from cheap ($5) to a higher end book the storeowner helped me find to give my boss for a gift. I was very impressed & will be going back to Landmark Booksellers.

Yelp
Driven by this place a million times and finally stopped in this weekend. They have a parking lot (which is a real incentive on a busy weekend on Main Street) & it's really a cute store.
