I came there on 1/4/2025 around 11:25 am. I asked for an undergarment. An employee asked me what I needed the garment for and where was I going. I explained that it was for every day wear, and gave a little more detail. I thought that I could express my needs due to the type of store that it was, and that the employee would somewhat know what I was requesting, as she was also full figured. She began to do a push-up movement and proceeded to tell me that all I needed to do was push away from the table and decrease my eating. I was stunned, I was already having a pretty difficult day, and was able to leave my baby with family to finally do something for myself. I simply asked her to point me in the direction of the garments. She helped me, but only showed me a camisole, and when I explained to her the trouble that I have with some camisoles and how they’re made, she directed me to shop on Amazon. She took me to the counter to show me which garment I should get on her phone and she asked me how old I was. I replied not knowing what was coming next, and she proceeded to tell me that all I had to do was cut my calories in half. I came into the store for a garment, not diet advice, and certainly not to be told to push away from the table and decrease my eating. There was another gentleman in the store who was kind and tremendously helpful, but because of this experience I do not think that I will ever step foot back at this location. I am not sure what my demeanor was that made the employee comfortable enough to speak to me in this manner or to give me unsolicited advice. I tried to be kind even as I was stunned. I could have made a scene, I could have hurt the employee’s feelings, especially in the setting of her giving advice that she did not appear to be following herself. However, I decided to stay more professional than her and remain calm. I called back and spoke with the assistant manager and sent an email to corporate. I want to be comfortable where I spend my money, without insults, and without leaving the store feeling as if my business could have been taken or left. Why else would an employee feel comfortable speaking to a customer in this manner? Perhaps she thought she was being down to earth, but down to earth would’ve been simply understanding what I was asking for and pointing me to the right garment. I hope that she understands better how to serve customers and that this doesn’t happen to anyone else.
