Just returned from our stay at the langdale hotel, and had a lovely time. We booked the down and spa which was good value. The room was nice, and all seemed well located for spa and restaurant. The spa was lovely, and not too many people! The treatments were worth it and therapists were great. The only issue was the pool was less than luke warm so not very comfortable to stay in for long at all unfortunately.||The evening meal was nice at the restaurant as part of the deal, though it was quite slow to arrive. Breakfast was very good, and a great choice. We went down as soon as it opened at 8am so plenty of choice. We will definitely be back, probably in the summer to do one of the many walks in the area! ||The package was great value for money, would recommend!

Place is a rip off and I would not recommend to anyone. Lots of hidden extras and CGI photos to make everything look more luxury than what it is. Spa is £85 extra per person (no - this doesn't include any treatments) and this is on top of steep prices per night for dated rooms. If you want just a pool, please note you have free access in the leisure centre, just be prepared to share this with the local community but very crowded during the holidays so essentially not usable. We were staying in a room with poor natural light which felt like we were in a basement (it's on the ground floor and half of the view is a wall! It's also a pathway so you can't leave the blinds open much for privacy. This picture really doesn't give the poor light justice), I'd love to know who thought this was an acceptable room to offer anyone, or even someone on such a special milestone. To get something with even a view of a car park it's £10 extra (yes we ended up upgrading for better natural light at least). For even my 30th they wanted an extra £18 for chocolates - not even a small treat they'd give which is pretty standard in places charging this price per night. Worst experience I'm still having to endure and I feel horrible for my partner who drove so far thinking the experience would've been the best we've experienced in 10 years together. I won't break his heart - but instead write this review to warn others - lower your expectations and come with disposable income you can afford to lose and you'll be ok. Highlights - breakfast was nice, and dinner waiter Catyln (I believe her name resembled) also very nice.

Stayed in the Roomy Lakeland Signature Room, for 2 nights.||check in was easy, reception staff were super helpful and made sure we knew all we needed to get around the estate.||Room was excellent. great entrance area to get rid of walking gear/wet clothes. Bed's very comfy, bathroom was great too, hydro bath was a nice feature.||Breakfast was excellent, no complaints at all. We ate out for other meals. ||Pool, etc was really good, we didnt use the spa. ||The whole hotel and estate is really nice. could spend hours just walking around. quite a unique setting||Wainwrights pub was great, food was excellent.|Brittania pub is very nice too. both within 5 min walk||Lanty Slees bar about 5 mins away too, really nice cocktails.

Having driven past the hotel many times I thought I would treat myself to a stay in one of the self catering timeshare lodges. Whilst the setting is principally pleasant and the leisure facilities outstanding, the lodges themselves fall very short of 4 star expectations. They’re dated and in desperate need of modernisation but more to the point the standard of cleanliness is appalling! It may seem clean on the surface with shiny taps and a clean shower screen but you don’t need to look any further or harder to see filthy appliances, doors and door handles, light switches, shower walls, indeed any surface. With any attempts to modernise the properties appearing minimal. The 80s was 45 years ago - I felt old just being inside. I am classed as clinically vulnerable to cleanliness is important to me. I did complain about the standards and management were very responsive, sending out a cleaner the next day but again, it was a disappointing surface clean. It was in desperate need of a deep clean with years of grime on the doors and door handles. In the end I came home early. Utterly depressed and disappointed. There are much better options for self catering accommodation nearby that were a lot cheaper. I did manage to get a 10% refund for my shortened stay but as I know, having a terminal illness, time is precious and I can’t get that holiday time back. I feel sad even thinking about it but I want others to know that they too may end up feeling utterly disappointed. I would suggest staying elsewhere.

Just back from a 2 night stay, we had an amazing room overlooking the river and the sound of rushing water was beautiful, room clean and warm with everything you’d need. |Spa and pool very relaxing.|Had dinner one evening in the pub which was delicious and the staff couldn’t have been more helpful and friendly.|Dinner in Stoves next evening again delicious with good choice, Joe behind the bar very helpful, breakfast is exceptional, everything you can imagine is there and if you need anything just ask,|Maps are supplied for walks around the area.|We loved our stay and can say that the staff here are so friendly and can’t do enough to make sure your stay is perfect.

All in all, for a cozy double, entry for two at the spa and room service at night- this cost us £460. This trip would honestly not have been worth half of that amount.||The room:|Very small and the site is oddly laid out. The room was very hot and we had several flies in there. The toilet was leaking water from its base and the shower was overly complicated to work. However, the Kendal mint cake on the pillow and jacuzzi bath were a nice touch,||The spa:|Hosts were not to be seen once we entered. The service was non- existence as you couldn’t find a host and so we only had one drink after we went to the bar. The heated pool was tiny and too many tickets were sold for the size of the facilities. Extremely over priced and nowhere near the standard of nearby competitors||Room service:|Menu was extremely limited. Food arrived without any cutlery and without our drinks. Some 30 minutes later both had now arrived. By now our burger had sweated and was soggy and stone cold. The foot was tasteless and the service was awful.||I have reached out to the hotel and the only element they want to focus on is the room service and so it does not seem as though they wish to action any change on the basis of my feedback.||Ultimately, beautiful setting but awful breakfast, room service and spa service. If I were you - I would avoid.

Such an idyllic location, with incredibly helpful staff and a wonderful attention to detail. We stayed in a Waterside Room…sited perfectly with the roaring river passing by our balcony. It was clean, warm and luxurious. The Spa was wonderful, the deli platters were delicious, the breakfast in the Stove was outstanding….essentially the whole experience far exceeded our expectations. ||We will most definitely be returning to this wonderful spot in the heart of the Lake District, and would definitely recommend this as the perfect location for a romantic getaway.

Disappointing Experience Despite High Expectations I had dinner at The Stove Restaurant and Bar, and unfortunately, the evening fell well below expectations. The booking process started off promisingly with friendly customer service when entering the restaurant to book a table, and we managed to secure a table for 20:45, knowing the kitchen closed at 21:30. We arrived early and decided to enjoy cocktails at the bar beforehand. However, we sat for around 20 minutes without even an acknowledgment from staff before being served. When our cocktails finally arrived, we were shown to our table — but no water was offered, the menu wasn’t explained, and when we asked about specials, our waitress didn’t know. When my partner tried to order a starter, the waitress came back three separate times to inform us each dish we picked was unavailable. Once we eventually placed our order, the food arrived quickly. Unfortunately, the chicken and waffle starter was extremely greasy and lacked flavour. A new staff member — who was very polite and eager to help — did his best to assist and provided extra olive oil for our roasted pepper snack, which we appreciated. For mains, the sides were cold. At that point, I was so disappointed that I didn’t even feel it was worth raising the issue and just wanted to finish the meal and leave. I understand we had a later booking towards the end of service, but given the premium cost of the accommodation and the reputation of the resort, the service and food quality were far below what should be offered. Sadly, this experience has left me reluctant to return.

Yelp
Going off the Yelp definitions I do think the Langdale Hotel is 'as good as it gets!' Sure, you could probably pay an extra £500 and get a better hotel room with all the bits and bobs, but for what we paid the comfort level, attention of staff and overall quality of the hotel and amenities was unrivalled. We stayed in the Fellside Signature Room which set us back £172 per night - for 2 of us away for a birthday treat and wanting somewhere classy - that's not too bad at all. Also worth noting that the complimentary breakfast is the best I've ever had in a hotel stay. Infact the breakfast deserves a paragraph of it own, it was sublime. Mountains of options in the buffet-style Cumbrian breakfast, cereals and fruit if you want healthier options and then a made-to-order menu that is fully inclusive in your stay with fantastic options such as buttermilk pancakes, smashed avacado on toast and waffles with a choice of toppings. Both days we had breakfast we ate far too much - but it was well worth it. The pool, gym and spa areas are also very nice. An enjoyable lap pool or jacuzzi to relax and loosen up after a long day of walking and a small but adequate gym and weight room if you need to get a sweat on! Overall a simply brilliant stay. The Langdales are a picturesque place without anything added, but the Langdale Hotel adds a touch of gloss to an unbeatable weekend retreat.

Yelp
Ahh, the Lake District. If you're in the least bit tempted to take a break anywhere in the UK, I'd highly recommend putting Ambleside on your radar. It does exactly what it says on the tin -- there are many sides to amble along. One such amble might take you up to this fine establishment, since after a day of trekking up hills and discovering tarns, you're likely to require sufficient spa time. And that's the deal here. I believe you'll need to book access, but since my dear Dad made the arrangements, it's worth a cursory glance at their website to check the details. Upon arrival, you'll find a gorgeous enclosure, lined with trees, foliage, and greenery. As well as being able to stay here (for a princely sum, I imagine) you can also take advantage of their spa facilities. This includes a pool, which is sectioned off for those who want to rack up some lengths, a sauna, a steam room, a jacuzzi, a gym, and a massage area. (Which, again, will require booking.) In the summer months, I'm told, they open up the huge glass doors by the pool and you can even go outside and play chess on the lawn with their huge set. The whole place is clean, and well-maintained, and my particular favourite spot was the sauna -- which is directly opposite the pool, if you want to cool off. There is also a cold shower and an ice cold bucket to freshen up with, but I was not even nearly brave enough. Upstairs there's a bar and eatery, which opens out to some very pleasant outdoor seating, facing a large pond and yet more greenery. The slow service would be the only let down, since you're not able to go up and order yourself and have to wait at the table. Although it was mega slow on the day we were there, the ace barman did convince the chef to make me an eggs benedict, which you're only supposed to get during breakfast hours. (Always worth asking.) I was not in the least bit disappointed, either. The food was absolutely perfect, and combined with a well-spiced bloody mary, I was in brunch heaven. I could have had the whole thing twice and it was precisely what I was craving at the time. The only thing that they could tweak is the quality of the coffee -- but hey, it's hard to get everything right. (And this is a complaint I'd put on most places, being a coffee snob.) Essentially, if you want to relax Lakes style, this place is your Huckleberry.

Yelp
Nestled in the gorgeous lush countryside, the winding roads that lead here are lined with trees, water, and the greenest grass you'll see. If you're looking for a nice getaway, certainly far from the hustle and bustle of the big city, Langdale provides the retreat you need (yet still 5 minutes away from the nearest pub in case you need a pick-me-up). The grounds seem to have a bit of a rustic feel, and while the rooms may be cozy, they certainly felt luxurious. The beds were so lush with down comforters and tons of pillows, plus they were huge! The bathroom has a nice heated towel rack, a mirror that won't fog up after your shower specifically where your face looks into it, and some of the tubs have fancy air jets. The hotel is big on being environmentally conscious and the body soap they provide has a hole in the middle so that not only can you grab it to use it, but less soap is wasted after each guest leaves. I guess I'd never thought about it, but every hotel I've been in since made me sad to think about all the wasted soap after a short hotel stay. Their restaurant isn't too shabby either, with a nice offering of more upscale dining options. And a walk around the compound yields streams, nature sounds, and gorgeous views. This also seems to be a big timeshare operation and there appeared to be individual cabins, separate from the guestrooms, perhaps for such patrons. The staff was also very helpful and accommodating. There was a bit of a mix-up when we first got our rooms...the mistake of another hotel guest, not the hotel. And the manager was to our room, checking to see if we were settling well, before we were even able to call to explain the problem. He sorted everything out with the other guests, had housekeeping come take care of my room immediately, and the situation was resolved almost before it had had time to materialize. If I find myself traveling through the lakes district again and in need of a relaxing hotel (with free wifi!), I'd definitely opt for Langdale again in the future.
