Ummm... where do we start.... We initially expected NYONYA - you know, the restaurant that I fell in love only a few weeks (you will be missed): RIP).
But granted, we anticipated NYONYA, and our intention was to have Malaysian Food, and being that we didn't want to disappoint our stomach, we decided to give Langkawi a chance.
As a disclaimer: NYONYA Brooklyn was purchased by new ownership, but the original still exist in Manhattan.
For those not familiar with the translation of Langkawi, here's Wikipedia's data (I humbly don't want to butcher it by paraphrasing):
Langkawi, officially known as Langkawi, the Jewel of Kedah, is a district and an archipelago of 99 islands in the Andaman Sea some 30 km off the mainland coast of northwestern Malaysia. The islands are a part of the state of Kedah, which is adjacent to the Thai border.
When we checked out the menu, we did notice that there was a lot of items that were still the same (Roti Canai, my favorite, which is still there YAY!!)
The food wasn't as impressive as my initial introduction to Malaysian food, but considering their attention to flavor, my fandom has been solidified.
Malaysian cuisine pays a lot of attention to layering their ingredients, thus, developing Michelin Star worthy reviews - it's SPECTACULAR!!!!
The Meal:
We ordered Hainanese Chicken w/ Rice & Beef Stew Curry w/ noodles.
The Hainanese Chicken Rice is unfamiliar to an American's taste buds (I, Darrel); because Hainanese Chicken is typically served room temperature (at least from my research on the internet). It was is a bit striking, because of the expectation of it being warm, but once your mind adjusts, it's quite tasty.
The Beef Stew Curry w/ Noodles was our favorite. The broth was (blank - don't have words to explain it); it was spicy and flavorful. It was perfectly balanced. The beef chunks were tender and not fatty. If I could compare it to something that I am familiar with I would say it would be similar to the consistency (the thickness of the broth) of a ramen dish, but with curry.
One plus about the new ownership, Nyonya was a cash only business, whereas, the new owner will be taking credit cards.
Bonus:
We were offered a - from what I assume - dessert bowl. We eat the mystery bowl with out a clue; it wasn't until we arrived home, did research on menu, that we determined what this black-gelatin dessert was (for context). We were served "Pulut Hitam" - a black glutinous rice with coconut milk (as the menu describes). It was delicious!!! The portion size was perfect - not too much to be overwhelming; just right.

Part 1
I'm so Impressed, I'm Speechless... I Just Had The Best Food Of My Life
I've never experience anything like this (I, Darrel). I was a firm believer that there wasn't a more flavorful cuisine other than Mexican - I utterly stand corrected.
