We went to L'Antica Trattoria on the recommendation of a local jeweler. He said it's the best restaurant in Sorrento, so we popped in. Upon entering, we were greeted by a jovial host who found us a table indoors as the terrace was fully booked for the evening. The place is well lit and lots of neat decorations to look at. You can see into the kitchen and watch the artisans plate the food. One thing that really amazed me was how big the restaurant actually was. It seemed to go on forever!
Dinner came with a glass of Prosecco and a ricotta stuffed profiterole, a welcome touch. We ordered the zucchini blossom for an appetizer and I forgot to snap a photo, but it was plated beautifully and was outstanding. My wife had never tried one before and became a big fan. We added a nice bottle of rose wine which went really well with both of our meals. She ordered the cannelloni and I ordered the tagliolini. I loved my dish. Lots of zesty lemon and the shrimp were very sweet and tender. What threw me was the description. It said "lumpfish", but it was actually lumpfish caviar. It was a very nice touch. It wasn't as salty as others I've had. The cannelloni had a lovely sauce, but we felt the filling needed something, like an herb or even parmigiana. It was good, but could have been better.
For desert, my wife got the panacotta and I ordered opera, a chocolate cake with coffee Grenache. It wasn't what I expected, but it was very good! It was a flourless cake, covered in white chocolate with a coffee mousse...devine! They also brought out a small plate with a sponge cake, truffle and a macaron. We weren't a fan of the sponge, but the others were nice.
If you are I Sorrento and looking for a nice meal, come here. The food was amazing and the waitstaff exceptional.
