Lapland Hotels Kilpis

I’ve stayed in Lapland Hotels before in different cities and due to that I’ve come to have certain expectations with the hotels. They’ve all been very nice and of good quality, and the prices have matched this high quality as well. This hotel on the other hand was an exception and a bad one at that.||The building needs some serious maintenance and renovation. It feels as though the building hasn’t been touched since it has been built and it also looks and smells like it.||The rooms that we got didn’t match the ones that we had in our reservation and what was showing on the hotel’s website. This felt like false marketing to us, we certainly didn’t get what we were expecting.||The rooms were a huuuge dissapointment. They would be fine for the price of maybe 60e/night at maximum, but these were double the price (which included a discount). So they were highly overpriced. ||Pros about the place are the beautiful location, the sauna and swimming place at the lake available for guests and also nice staff. ||I would definitely recommend this place NOT being a part of the Lapland Hotels chain because it’s not offering what the chains are usually offering. This hotel should be it’s own entity, if possible. They could also invest into marketing the place more as a ”nostalgia” hotel or something like that, so that people who want to experience that can choose do that. I’m sure there are people who would like that. But not have this as part of Lapland Hotels, at least not without some serious renovation for the building and the rooms. If that’s not possible, this should be taken into consideration with the prices, which are at the moment definitely too high.

Lovely motel that had friendly staff, good breakfast, great location. Close to hiking and close to the lake. Breakfast had a diverse choice of hot and cold foods. Rooms could use an update but was clean and quiet. There is a sauna on the lake, but e didn't have time to use

Retro, basic rooms but that is what I like in this Lapland hotel and its surroundings. A lovely walk just across the main road with a views to Saana and wilderness. High chance to see raindeers there. There's also semi tame raindeer that likes to chill around the hotel. Will be back as a good stop over to Finnish Swedish and Norwegian Lapland + close to boat trip to 3 countries border post. Left there yesterday, missing the place already!

One of the best places to stay in Kilpisjärvi. Justified price and really good location.

Never mind the out dated old looks. Never mind the stars. Rooms are small and just for sleep. Nothing more.Location is absolutely excellent for and to go and come back or stay. Nice beach with separate sauna s for men and women. Small dock to go for a midnight swim on Kilpisjärvi. AND service. Service. It is absolutely perfect. In desk. In restaurant. And i recommend you to taste restaurant especially fish dishes. We just stayed 1 short night so no real experience on all the adventures they offer but i reckon there is plenty to do. + You can have your pets with you which is a HUGE +++

We had been out camping for several days, and just wanted somewhere clean with a comfy bed and good shower. We absolutely got that, and more! From the outside, it does look outdated and not the most inviting. Don't be fooled. The staff is the friendliest you could hope for! Laura at the front desk was warm, welcoming, and a wealth of local knowledge. The rooms were simple but fit our needs perfectly. The hotel is right down by the lake, with access to trails though the woods for an after dinner walk. Dinner itself was one of the best I ever had (reindeer two ways), with a sophisticated flair I honestly was not expecting. We had a wonderful stay!

An overnight stay with work. Friendly service and our”apartment” was separate from the main building and was very adequate for our stay. A plus was a kitchenette, with kettle etc and microwave. We slept three and it was clean if a little dated. |The main building however is in dire need of renovation. The ladies toilet situated near the lobby area had an incredibly bad smell - drains/ mould ? Very unpleasant, and decor was stuck in the 1980’s. |The sauna by the lake was lovely and the swim was invigorating. |Breakfast was standard Lapland hotels. |Situation was great with walks in the near vicinity. |To conclude this hotel, although being adequate for this work trip, needs massive renovations to bring it up to par, and after also staying in Lapland hotels Hetta this seems to be a common trait for this chain.

A last aesthetic choice for Kilpisjärvi travelers. It displays far too many signs it is past its prime, for the price it charges. If you can find a room at Retkeilykeskus, take it instead.
