Excellent Excellent Excellent. Beautiful restaurant, full of history. Top service and world-class cuisine. This restaurant alone is worth the trip out to the Appian Antica, but also spend the afternoon out there and relax away from the city crowds.

This was one of the best meals of my life- a pleasure from start to finish. An inviting and engaging atmosphere with antiquities and an underground wine cellar (a former tomb). Service was skillful and the food was incredible.

Believe me, this was not an easy review, because everything was perfect, but the end result ruined the final score. And that's nothing to do with either the food, the service, or the internal atmosphere. THE STARS SHORTENED DUE TO A THEFT THAT SMASHED THE GLASS OF THE CAR TO STEAL INTO IT. I'm not sure how good it is for a restaurant like this not owning a car park. But this inevitably requires customers to park off-road, in a non-lighted street, which I would have never imagined being a target for thefts. Whatever the case, the fact remains, and it's important to inform people, as apparently this was not an isolated case (it happened before), and another car was smashed at the same time of mine. That being said, the internal environment, warmed up with a nice chimney, the food, the service... everything was really amazing. The roasted pork belly was divine. The dessert, I couldn't enjoy too much, mostly due to the above accident. Surely the bill is proportioned to the ancient building, the quality of food, and the service, but as an indication, a full meal will be not less than 50 euros per person, wine excluded, whose cost could vary from 26 to 4k.

Had lunch just after the restaurant opened at 12:30pm. Nice welcome, cozy seats, friendly staff. Tartare as a starter (18€) was very good but very simple. Mustard or Quail egg and maybe something crispy would have complemented it well. Red wine by the glass - first choice was the Cabernet Cuvée but after tasting it and finding out the bottle was opened yesterday I went for the lighter Pinot Noir (?) Cuvée. Brisket as the main with potatoes - brisket was slightly dry and not really hot but really tasty. Needed a bit more Sauce. Desert - raspberry sorbet with crumble, creme and pistachios - excellent dish! All together with water and cafe 65€. Nice was rooms and a historic wine cellar. Definitely a good spot for fine dining!

I rarely write reviews, but my experience here was so staggeringly bad that it feels like a public service announcement. This was one of the most expensive meals I’ve ever had in Rome — and quite possibly the worst meal I’ve had anywhere. The pasta arrived completely raw (and not in the charming, “al dente” way — I mean chalky, inedible). The dishes were devoid of flavour, as if the kitchen had forgotten that seasoning exists. Portion sizes were absurd — not in a generous way, but in a “you’ll need to stop for food on the way home” way. The service was equally dismal. Staff seemed indifferent at best and openly dismissive at worst, leaving us feeling like unwelcome intruders rather than paying guests. For the astronomical prices charged, I expected at least competence, if not excellence. Instead, I left hungry, frustrated, and lighter in the wallet. I forgot to mention that I had a sleeping baby in the pram at the table, which the waiter continued to knock into the wall very firm. I was so shocked that I continued to put my arm out to stop him after he did it multiple times. Rome has countless wonderful restaurants that take pride in their food and hospitality. This is not one of them. My advice: go anywhere else.

On one of the most exquisite Road in Rome where all the graves are from the old time. Since then the place we are in this restaurant was a postal office and the food is really nice very selective and the wine is good the people are gentle and nice and I do believe it's a great restaurant to come and eat it is not cheap Regarding the food you can eat there is a beautiful artichoke grilled and boiled that has a lot of taste and also the reason to I had was with a amazing taste of smoked cream and butter it was really really good. Another must in this restaurant is going in the cellar this is a seller that is already dated from 1 era

This is likely now one of my favorite restaurants in Rome. My friend invited my wife and I to dine here for dinner! We’ve not heard of it and it was our first night in Rome. We are so glad we went! The service was terrific and the food is so wonderful. Its a bit further way from the main attraction in Rome, but it’s so worth it to travel out! There were really no tourists in the restraints. Majority were local Italians gathering for dinner/evening date! So you know that it’s legit Italian food! The ambience felt like a romantic Italian restaurant! I also had the chance to go to their cellar! It was pretty awesome to see. They had wine bottles from the 1970’s wow! I would recommend Archeologia for anyone who wants to experience great food, with great service at a very affordable cost! I can’t wait to visit Rome and eat here again! :) Thank you to the staff and well done to the chef and his team!

Yelp
My wife and I stumbled upon this place during our walk on the Appian Way. It was elegant, very tasty, and a wonderful afternoon meal experience.

Yelp
Excellent food and service. The atmosphere is warm and comforting. Everything on the menu is good, but the mascarpone and chocolate wafer dessert is stellar.

Yelp
We had a group meal. It was o.k. They sat us in the covered area to the left. That wasn't the most pleasant experience. I would have preferred to sit outside like the Italian and French customers. This place has great ambiance and texture..... if you're actually surrounded by it. Service was unbearably slow. We had the 5 course meal. Fish dishes were high quality but why were ALL the dishes fishes except dessert? Too much fish. Wine was o.k. To be honest I expected better than o.k since we were paying a high price to be here. This was our last dinner in Rome after 12 days in Italy and I can say, overall, this was a disappointing experience compared with our amazing meals and adventures.

Yelp
When a chef friend recommends a place, you trust their judgement. L'Archeologia was fantastic. Super fresh ingredients, robust wines by the glass, and the best news of all...the pasta dishes take 20+ minutes because THEY MAKE THE PASTA FRESH TO ORDER. You read that correctly... I'm a super big fan, can you tell?

Yelp
We came at lunchtime after a hot walk along the Appian Way. It as a welcome relief to stop in their garden and get some refreshment. Prices were high for what you get, and there is a €3 charge per person for "pane" (basically a service charge). My pasta dish was tasty (alla gricia), although it was on the spicy side for me. I tried the pesto but was not a fan. Kids liked the calamari, but I thought it was on the bland side. Overall, if I could do it again, I would try walking further from the catacombs next time for food.

Yelp
After a long day came here for diner. The food was very tasty, however getting it is another story. Service was terrible, it took over 20 min to get a menu. Would not recommend it, the food was good but not worth of having such a horrible service.

Yelp
The food was amazing, service impeccable and price reasonable for all that we enjoyed. Best we have eaten since arriving and paid more for far less quality!!

Yelp
We were greatly impressed with the service and the food! The place reminded us of Relaix Chateaux - Nice fire place... Beautiful garden The fish was delicious!

Yelp
Great food and good choices of wines.

Yelp
The best thing about the Catacombs of St. Sebastian was its proximity to an excellent restaurant just a hundred yards down the road, Ristorante L'Archeologia. We arrived at the catacombs hungry and decided to roll the dice at this place, and it turned out to be an absolute gem. Beautiful setting -- we felt as though we were in a Mediterranean garden -- along with fantastic food, great service, nice wine list. We lingered over the sort of Roman lunch that you dream of having but can't seem to find in the city proper. Worth the trip down the Appian Way even if you're not visiting the catacombs. (Those were fine, too, but the restaurant made our day!)

Yelp
This is a great restaurant for dinner with a great collection of wine (of course). The food seems to be exquisitely prepared. The dining is in an open air relaxed patio setting. The appetizers were all delicious. This seems to be a favorite for the locals also. We came here for the Steak Tar Tar in particular and it is prepared table side and it is delicious and comes in a huge portion.
