Largs Pier Hotel still has the charm and atmosphere, but the food didn’t quite live up to past visits, making this one an average experience rather than a standout.
I’ve been here before and had a much better experience, so this visit was a bit of a letdown in comparison.
Food (3/5):
I ordered the grilled whiting, and while the flavour was good, the portion size and execution missed the mark. For $48 you’d expect a more generous serve, but it came with just three small pieces and they were a little dry. The chips were solid though.
My wife had the Thai rare beef salad, and it was similar story. Not terrible, but very liquidy and not as good as what she’d had here previously. Flavour was decent enough, just not quite what you’d hope for.
Service and Atmosphere (4/5):
Staff were friendly and the hotel itself has a great vibe, especially on a Friday afternoon. It’s clearly a popular spot with a good crowd and a welcoming atmosphere.
Overall:
I wouldn’t write the place off at all, because it’s usually reliable and has a great feel to it, but this particular visit was pretty average when it came to the food. A 3/5 feels fair… not bad, just not above average either.

Good pub, friendly vibe, but the kitchen was off its game this time.
