14 Places to Walk in the Footsteps of Dinosaurs

"Lark Quarry is located in the outback of Queensland, Australia, 110 kilometers southwest of the town of Winton. The site preserves the prehistoric scene of the only known record of an actual dinosaur stampede that took place more than 90 million years ago.  Caught in time are the footprints of a large carnivorous dinosaur as it slowly stalks its prey. The path of prints then reveals it charging and scattering as many as 150 other smaller dinosaurs, who can be seen stampeding in panic from the predator. However, there has been debate as to if these prints were from an actual dinosaur stampede. Other researchers believe the tracks were created over several days from dinosaurs crossing a channel.  The site itself was discovered in 1962 by Glen Seymour. Researchers from the Queensland Museum aided in excavating the location to further reveal the tracks, which called for the removal of more than 50 tons of rock. The current protective shelter was constructed in 2002 after the previous enclosure failed to protect the prints from exposure. The Conservation Building is designed to control temperature, humidity, and moisture levels to preserve the prints." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

Definitely worth a visit for those wanting to do the dinosaur track. Just be aware it is a good 1hr 20 min each way and around 45 min tour. There are walks to do so if wanting to visit I suggest an earlier time so plenty of time to walk around.

Definitely giving 10 out of 10 the best stampede that you'll ever get to see. The tour guide was very interesting and helpful. Getting there is a different story there's only about 25 to 30km worth of dirt/grave road leading up there 5km of that is rough but if my corolla with highways can do it anything can. It's worth doing it.

It's a good hour and half drive from Winton, but I really enjoyed our visit. We did the tour$35 as at June 25, about 45 min long, videos and a dedicated guide. Worth the visit, but allow nearly a whole day, by the time you drive there and back.

It's a 100km drive out, 40km of gravel, but all good. Worth the drive. Awesome scenery on the way out. Tip. Turn right a couple of times heading out. The escarpment a few km north of the road is worthy.

This must be One of the most awe inspiring tours that I have done, well worth every cent. Make sure you do some with a bush walks around behind the main building as well.

Excellent location despite the long drive. The location added to the prehistoric feel. The building itself was bigger than I expected and the interior exhibit was displayed very well. The footprints were clearly visible, amazing. The young gentleman doing the tour was very knowledgeable and obviously passionate about his work. I am so glad I made the effort to visit. There are walks you can take around the site but unfortunately I was not able to but did manage the lookout. A little bit of a cafe there but not much really. So bring your lunch and picnic at the exterior seating areas. Everything looks new still. Very well designed. Oh and be prepared to deal with dirt roads, emus, wallaroos and cattle on the drive there and back.
