This restaurant far exceeded my expectations! The appetizers were delicious and we loved the presentation. Dinner was excellent. Great service and loved the ambiance. This is the place to go to for a special occasion.

We went to Larrupin to celebrate our anniversary. IT WAS AMAZING! The food was awesome, the service by Gary was outstanding. The background music was perfect and the restaurant atmosphere was incredible. We were literally blown away at the perfection of the entire evening. Thank you Gary. Thank you Larrupin Cafe.

Stumbled across this gem last night. Thought we would give it a try based on the advertised menu. Walked into a Halloween decorated older building. Was a bit nervous at first, but we were quickly and warmly greeted by the friendly staff. In a short time we were seated and Randy came over to our table. He was very proud of everything they had to offer us and thoroughly described every possible choice. After making our choices with his input and placing our order, he surprised us with a complimentary charcuterie board as an appetizer. The varied and complimenting flavors opened up and heightened our taste buds in preparation for the main course. The filets and chicken we had chosen were all very tasty and presented in a marvelous fashion. Randy even helped pair the perfect wine to go with our choices. After dinner he supplied a complimentary dessert for a birthday we were celebrating. The goat cheese Coeur a la creme dessert was a perfect finish to this exquisite meal. Overall a very pleasant experience.

Google
Came for my son's 21st Birthday. First time for most of our group. Food was good, my only complaint was that the steaks we ordered were very tough and hard to cut. They were tasty! The atmosphere was chill-literally! It was super cold inside...we sat next to a fireplace with no fire. When everyone has their coats on it's a sign. Service was great! He was very informative and made good recommendations. I would recommend this place for a nice dinner.

Google
Exceptional restaurant with wonderful dishes and equally strong service. Our group ordered many appetizers, entrees, and desserts. Every single one was superb.

Google
Had a disappointing time here. Randomly decided to pop in for a nice meal with my fiance. Decided to splurge a bit, assuming with that high price point this place must be yummy! The menu was quite limited, and when we asked the server what non alcoholic drinks they had, she looked at us like we were crazy and didnt know! We got our food and were fairly disappointed. For a $50 plate of chicken you'd expect it to have some flavor. The best part of the whole expensive meal was the baked potato side (which was too small to sate an appetite) the server was very cold and made us feel extremely uncomfortable. Left hungry and disappointed

Google
This was the best dinner we had on our entire trip! The food is truly incredible. Most of us ordered the snapper special and it was the best fish we’d ever had. The meals also came with an appetizer board which was so cute. We sat outside in the garden, and the atmosphere was so lush and beautiful! There was also lovely live jazz music on the patio. The inside of the restaurant was interestingly decorated, and I wish I could go again and eat inside. Finally, the service was incredible! Our waitress was wonderful to us and really knew her stuff. She made us realize there really are great wait staff out there! If you’re in the area, you MUST try to eat here. It will make your trip!

Google
Special place to experience dinner. The menu is fabulous and chef specializes in grilling. I had the trout and it was fabulous. The starter that they give to every table is the perfect selection of thoughtful small bites to enjoy. I loved the lemon cheesecake, too. The interior is cozy.

Yelp
What a fun experience! I can't wait to go back and catch them earlier! The ambiance is fabulous and very unique. Great place to sit and enjoy your company and the amazing food. Augustine was our wonderful server for the evening and he does a fabulous job. He's great at his job very knowledgeable and has a great smile. We felt right at home. Let's talk food - Appetizer board - wonderful flavors and "it's meant to be playful" loved the description of how to combine the items. Get the explanation of the food so you know what you are eating and where it came from! Yummy Half n Half - wow the meat is amazing and yes the brisket is a little spicy so be warned! The salad that comes with the meal is fun and perfect. Fish of the day - we went with steelhead and changed the bed to risotto. Can't go wrong the flavors were on point and everything was perfectly cooked. Vanilla crème brûlée- wow the top was amazing and crunch and the flavor was perfect including the texture. Signature desert- I don't remember the name but might have been a little too smoky for me. I like the textures and it was so cute how it was served. Lemon tart? The bomb! So worth it!! Oh and the music - I say on the bench and put on my shoes and thought someone might be inside playing a piano. Walked in and the sounds were filling the building and added that perfect swanky calming comfortableness to complete the evening. All in all I say a 10 and I'm hard on things! Okay so I didn't like the wine I picked but that's my fault no one else's! I should have asked to taste it before committing. It would be a great spot for a party!!

Yelp
This was easily the most amazing dinner I've ever had! The ambiance was incredible, with great service (our waitress was so sweet and explained everything in great detail)- it truly was an amazing date night. We started with their appetizer board that comes with dinner, along with grilled oysters (they had them as a special) and the rosemary roasted garlic app. Everything was delicious and then our dinner came out which was perfect timing! The steak was cooked to perfection and truly could not have been better. Dessert was crème brûlée and a slice of chocolate pecan pie (also amazing). I have driven past this restaurant many times without ever realizing that this gem was inside! Truly worth the drive up to Trinidad and we will absolutely be back. Humboldt County is lucky to have Larrupin as a dining option!

Yelp
Great personable service, Willow was very good at making suggestions and checking on her tables. The food (Snapper) was very good as was the wine. Their appetizer tray was made up of nothing I would have ordered on my own, but it was surprisingly as tasty as it was sophisticated. It expanded my palate and paired nicely with the wine. So many things I want to try on their menu--I can't wait to go back.

Yelp
This was our first time here and it was fabulous! We came here to celebrate our friends birthday, and it did not disappoint. The ambience, the beautiful decor, excellent service, and the food was superb. We ordered the specials of the night, the steelhead was cooked to perfection on top of coconut, macadamia basmati rice, oh my goodness! The filet mignon with prawn was melt in your mouth good. For appetizers, we had the prawn and bbq oysters, their charcuterie board full of little goodies was out of this world good. And of course, we had desserts, the chocolate pecan pie, the lemon tart, and the crème brûlée were all so good. I highly recommend this place for special occasions or if you just feel the need to eat some really good food. We will definitely be back. What a treasure for Humboldt county! Five stars.

Yelp
Wow! What a great treasure lived in Humboldt my whole life but my first time finally going and I was impressed! Excellent food, wonderful service, great atmosphere. Nothing but great things about this place and would return in a second. Can't wait to go back. Highly recommend!

Yelp
My partner and I visited on a weekend afternoon for an early dinner. The ambiance and vibes were very dark yet super eclectic - there was always a piece of decor for us to talk about. We ordered the oysters as an app, half and half (brisket and ribs) and New York strip loin, and limoncello tart for dessert. The oysters were super tasty and fresh especially with a squeeze of lemon and dollop of cocktail sauce. The brisket was super tender and delicious (I also really liked the burnt ends) and the rib meat legit fell off the bone. The NY strip loin was super yummy especially with the gorgonzola and mushrooms on top. The limoncello tart was very tart (duh) but really helped to cut the heaviness of all the red meat we had. Our waiter Garret was super nice, gave us great food recommendations, and made our experience enjoyable! We'll definitely be back next time we're around!

Yelp
4/5 stars, place was amazing as far as ambiance and food. The service however, meh it was okay. Our bill was around $400 (without tip) for 4 people and we weren't checked on after our food came out until we asked for the bill which I wasn't a huge fan of. Overall I would still come back due to the atmosphere and food. Coming from the Bay Area, I will say the portion sizes here are amazing and you 100% get what you pay for which I appreciate.

Yelp
Came here on a little getaway and were we thrown for a loop when we sat the beautiful ambience and the smells coming from the kitchen, we knew we were in for a treat.! We had the best time chatting with our server and we had the filet and shrimp..! Absolutely exquisite..! And the little snack plate was a nice touch too..we will definitely be back here and highly recommend
google avatar

Ryan M.

Yelp
The ambiance was quite a surprise, with a mixture of Christmas decor around the windows, to exotic mixes of African, Jewish, and Native art interspersed throughout the dining area. Our waitress, Willow was very good. We came a previous day but the restaurant was booked, and she recommended other good dining places we could eat (see my review for Trinidad Bay Eatery). Our food was out of this world, the ribs and brisket Half and Half dish was outstanding, and I loved their coconut and macadamia rice. They had a seasonal snapper fish over risotto dish that was exceptional. Recommend this wholeheartedly to anyone in the area!

Yelp
This place is a GEM! The service was fantastic, food delicious and ambiance so sweet. We loved dining here and hope to be back. The appetizer board was a nice treat! We were seated upstairs which gave a nice view of the courtyard. The meat was tender and fish fresh. I had one of the best glasses of Cabernet ever. Definitely worth a visit when in the area.

Yelp
So we are roadtripping from Washington State to Florida and are staying at the Trinidad Inn which is .9 miles down the road from this amazing beautifully delicious restaurant. Now mind you.. we thought we were only going to be able to find gas station road trip food but this Gem among Gems just blew our minds.. OMG said 20+ times... Service top notch! Well spoken, knowledgeable, and friendly ‍ The artwork was amazing l. I wanted to go look more closely at some but be a bit weird hovering over a table. Lighting is soft and inviting. Thanks again! As Arnold Schwartzennager once said, "I'll be Baack."

Yelp
What a majestic experience! The patio is so gorgeous and the food is absolutely amazing! We enjoyed the mouth watering beef brisket and the stuffed bell pepper and portobello mushroom. The staff is very attentive and took really good care of us. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
Absolutely love this restaurant. If you want the WiFi free, cellphones free, completely dead spot of cell data roaming and the restaurant doesn't provide free WiFi access but gives you their own phone number to use in case of emergency, you know how deeply rural this unique restaurant is located. With the hidden location you would think Tuesday night will be a slow one, maybe some special offers, then you would be wrong. Even with our reservations for seven people, it was outside or upstairs only. The restaurant is huge and was standing room only. There was a big birthday party, several people were waiting to be seated and we had a lovely waitress who was impeccable on any food or wine you can ask. The menu has not changed since we looked up the last menu uploaded to the Yelp review by another Yelper. I had half and half. We took two bottles of finest wine that Costco provided. The baby back ribs fell off of six long bones, BBQ meat was fantastic! The market priced Halibut was little tough but the salad was locally grown and asparagus was perfectly sautéed. The sweet potato was perfect and risotto was purely heaven in the way it was cooked with butter and simple salt in aldante style with absolutely divine consistency was impressive. The NY Strip was cooked with pink middle and huge portion. The prices were as expected in high ended restaurant. Our total bill was $625 including 15% tip and $25 per bottle of wine. Our waitress waved $25 corkage fee by buying one of their own listed wine. We chose Caymus West Coast for $70. It was way too young at 2022. We were surprised that not all Caymus wine tasted similarly. Don't hesitate but make a reservation now. Just the experience of interior decorum is worth the museum for free.

Yelp
Wow. This place is off the charts. The darling home/building is something from a storybook. Old class ambience. Excellent service, lovely ala cart appetizers of whipped goat cheese, smoked salmon on cucumber, rye bread, figs and parmesan & apples on a charcuterie board. We also enjoyed the baked Brie in phyllo. I had the filet, which was so flavorful & perfectly made with fresh asparagus. My husband had the salmon, asparagus on coconut rice. All in all is was a lovely and exceptional dinner

Yelp
YIKES! AMAZING SURPRISE best describes Larrupin! We were camping our way from OR to CA and we're close to Abalone Campground (recommended, btw) and we hadn't had dinner, and it was getting close to 8pm, so we jumped on Yelp. My wife found Larrupin just about an exit past the camp exit, saw it closed at 8pm, so we made a beeline. We expected a small, understated remote low-key restaurant, and what we found was a paradise in location/venue, facility, staff, menu, and overall experience! We don't have a reservation, but the hostess took us to outside seating (OMG it's exquisite ) and we were taken care of by an amazing waiter, with amazing dinners, and an experience I'd expect in the nicest area as opposed to where it felt so remote! Very hard for me to go back, but if anyone has the chance, this is the place to go. You won't be disappointed - and don't sit inside!!

Dianne G.

Yelp
Larrupin is a long standing favorite of ours and I was so happy to see that they have continued their history of food excellence, tremendous service, and cozy ambiance. We were excited to have dinner there on a chilly and foggy 2024 August evening - soon warmed by the charcuterie, Brie En Croute, and Spanikopita. There are not enough superlatives for Larrupin. Go there, be amazed, and look forward to returning every chance you get!

Yelp
Larrupin is special. We really enjoyed their newest outdoor space with deck trees, heater lamps and wind-glass. Beautiful overhead foliage and a great outdoors ambiance with great live music. Professional and personable service and we loved the baked Brie appetizer and pre-dinner cheese plate - both very good. Grilled salmon and the 8 oz Filet were with perfect asparagus and twice-baked potatoes were both 5-star dishes. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Jorge M.

Yelp
Larrupin has a very well executed menu. My wife and I were there for early dinner we got a carpaccio appetizer which was delicious. I got the filet mignon and she got the half and half (brisket and pork ribs). My steak was properly seasoned (salt and pepper) and the temperature was spot one. I got the mushroom topping, but you really don't need it. The portion size was larger than any other fine dining restaurant in the area. Overall, excellent food and service...much better than campground, if you ask me.

Yelp
Charming and romantic environment, very well-appointed and beautifully decorated restaurant. The dinner menu is somewhat limited, and I appreciate this as I feel this allows them to be experts at what they have. The entrees include steaks, chicken, and fish as well as vegetarian options. Entrees include cheese/fruit board. It had house made pumpernickel bread with locally sourced goat cheese, apple slices, cucumber with salmon, and figs, with chicken pate, and, of course, larrupin. It was perfect. All five in our party had something different and everyone was very pleased with their choices. My choice was the steelhead with coconut/macadamia rice and house salad. The steelhead was mesquite broiled and the best fish I have ever had. Incredibly good. The rice was delectable and the house salad (comes dressed with a light dressing and Gorgonzola). Spectacular meal! One person had the brisket with twice baked potato and said it was quite good, another had the filet and said it was probably the tastiest filet mignon they'd ever had. The sturgeon was enjoyed but I shared a bite of my steelhead with them and they said it was even better than theirs. The chicken cordon bleu was a good sized breast, prepared beautifully golden. There was so much food that we couldn't enjoy dessert, but they had great choices including vanilla bean crème brûlée, chocolate cake (comes with vanilla icing and looked incredible), lemon tart, and a few other choices. Service was excellent. Very friendly and efficient. Will be back for all special events, and the occasional "just because" fancy dinner!

Yelp
We called at 8pm asking to get seated and they kindly accommodated us and allowed us to sit at 8:15pm after a 7hr hike we were incredibly excited. The hostess took a good ten minutes to get to us before we were sat and she didn't really acknowledge us as she walked by multiple times but our server was Amazing I wish I got her name but she was increíble sweet and let us ask as many questions as we needed. We got the oysters and I personally loved the grilled oysters with the house made bbq and the my bf loved the raw oysters. I got the half and half with the twice baked potatoes and it was AMAZING!! I couldn't finish it but I loved it and got the grape juice and it was great. My bf got the lamb chops with the rice and he says "underwhelming" and he wish he didn't get the rice especially for the price but he says "it doesn't compare to SF food we've had especially for the price but they're in the middle of no where so.." But I thought it was great(not the rice). I think it was a great place to go after hiking all day and it was a great experience. The inside is decorated interestingly.. It's pretty dim in there and was warm compared to outdoors and I actually liked the eclectic look. The outdoor area was beautiful and I heard there was an upstairs but I never saw it. If you are in the area I highly recommend it's worth money!

Angela P.

Yelp
Lovely restaurant in beautiful Trinidad. Great alcohol menu. I loved that a cheese board is included with the meal. I also love that salad is included too, BUT they serve it on the same plate as the hot food and it wilts all the greens and makes it very soggy. I really wish the salad is served on a separate plate so this doesn't happen. The filet mignon was perfect. Brisket and ribs were also cooked very well, but I did not care for the BBQ sauce that was used. Sadly they don't have any high chairs. We had to hold our baby throughout the whole meal. I wish they told me that when I made the reservation and warned them we're coming in with a baby... Nice seating out on the patio. They have live music and heaters for every seat out there!

Joseph G.

Yelp
Our food was not up to temperature. My partner had hers reheated but I did not want my ribs refired so I dealt with it. Having such a limited menu each dish should be perfectly executed especially considering the price point. The shrimp were overcooked and clearly from frozen and thawed under running tap. Our entrees came out cold and under seasoned. Pretty disappointing for our special night out. This place has so much potential. It may pass by some locals pallets but I feel in coming years it will need to evolve. Great service, great vibes, very blah food. I'd love to come in and give y'all a hand bringing your menu back to life. Don't be complacent, do better.

Katie R.

Yelp
Service was great, wonderful ambiance and delicious food! NY strip and red snapper ( nightly special) were fantastic! Loved the coconut prawns and the fig and apple Brie! The mango Bellini hit the spot! The lemon cheesecake was the perfect ending!
google avatar

P. A.

Yelp
Loved our experience and food! Recommend coming with a reservation (although I saw the host try to accommodate as many walk-ins as possible). There aren't online reservations, so you will need to call. You can leave a VM if they can't answer, but they will need to speak directly to you to confirm. The space inside was nice, but the patio and garden were LOVELY. We sat in a corner behind the pond, right by a tree branch that was worked into the architectural design. It was very cozy and fun. The appetizer plate was fun, and came with some great flavors (comes with a main order). We got coconut shrimp (appetizer special), the brisket, and the red snapper (another special). The red snapper came with a mushroom risotto and this entree was the true star. Got a lemon tart for dessert and loved it.

Yelp
Amazing food, service, and atmosphere. The oysters, steelhead, and appetizers were all excellent.

Yelp
Celebrated our 47th anniversary here, been doing this for the past several years. This year we were not treated to a dessert with the number of years on it as we had been in the past but we still give Larrupin Cafe 5 stars. The food is quality which is reflected in the higher prices but it is absolutely bursting with flavor. The atmosphere is great and our server Cheyanne was friendly and attentive. We had such a great night. With one exception. As we were enjoying dessert 2 women sat behind us with a dog. It had a service dog halter on but I do not believe it was a service dog. I could be wrong here but having had a son in law with a bonafide service dog I know that dog and handler credentials are attached to collars. There were none. Also real service dogs do not wander to the end of their leash sniffing, they lay at their handlers feet and mind their own business. Fake service dogs, animals in grocery stores etc is a pet peeve of mine. I think at the very least this customer should have been sat on the patio. That was a huge turn off for me especially after such a lovely experience. This would have been ok at a Dennys but paying several hundred dollars for a romantic dinner is not ok.

Donna S.

Yelp
As usual, amazing dressed filet and great wine selection. My local favorite. I know whenever I go the quality will be on point and service excellent.
google avatar

Jayla V.

Yelp
The food we got here was delicious and unique. Im giving it 4 stars because i ordered the cordon blue and it was slightly undercooked, but everything else was amazing. The service was outstanding. We brought our 2 small babies here and they were a bit "loud" but we felt very welcome and accommodated regardless

Yelp
We went to Larrupin based on a recommendation from a local, and we were so glad we did! We were celebrating our son's graduation from Cal Poly Humboldt, and we wanted something special. We sat outside in the garden on a rare sunny afternoon in Trinidad. Everything was absolutely wonderful. The waiter was delightful, the included appetizer tray was unexpected and delicious, the beer and wine list was excellent (it is not a full bar) and of course the atmosphere/vibe was just magical. A little eclectic and whimsical and absolutely charming. We all ordered different entrees and they were all excellent. We had prime rib, fresh fish, local oysters and brisket. Portions were generous and the cost was fair, especially considering that every dinner came with the shared appetizer tray, a salad and sides. Desserts were amazing! Thank you for a truly memorable night!

Renee B.

Yelp
everything was great, including the crème brûlée! Service was good. Had the barbecue brisket, ribs and lamb and they were all terrific. there twice baked potato was quite good as well.

Yelp
We come to Larrupin for special occasions and are always met with celebration by the staff and excellent customer service every time! The atmosphere is celestial and intimate, which lets you know you've been transported to somewhere special. It's true as many other reviewers report, the filet mignon is epic, perfectly prepared and sides are delicious. Another thing that's awesome is they have my absolute favorite wine on the menu, our local vintners Septentrio's 2016 Pinot Noir that goes exquisitely with the filet. I'm happy to share, Larrupin still offers their lovely appetizer platter, complementary!!

jp g.

Yelp
My wife and I had dinner at Larrupin for our anniversary and it was fantastic and spectacular. Everything was fresh and delicious and interesting. Our table was remote and quiet, our server had vast knowledge of every menu item. 6 out of 5 stars.

Yelp
Great restaurant! Love this place... great ambience and food! Celebrated my kid's 18th birthday here!

Katrina McFarland ..

Yelp
I have been dining at Larrupin Cafe for over 30 years and it is still as spectacular as it was then. Impeccable service, a beautiful ambiance, and superb food make for an unforgettable dining experience every time. It is truly my favorite restaurant of all time
google avatar

Tamara B.

Yelp
Larapin had a very unique ambiance and atmosphere, which is quite enjoyable. We had a nice waiter with good service, and the food as far as Humboldt goes is up there for quality. I really enjoyed the chicken, and the salad that came with it was delicious. My husband had the filet and shrimp skewer, for $55 it was a decent amount of food and what you would expect from a "fine dining" restaurant, however as you can see the sauce was quite burnt which unfortunately really affected the flavor of everything.
google avatar

Fernando A.

Yelp
Surprisingly incredible. One of the best meals we've ever had. Starting with the pate and goat cheese hors d'ourves plate, the grilled portabello mushroom with man hero cheese appetizer, plus the goat cheese cheesecake, I was surprised by the creativity and and great taste. My main entree of steelhead trout was incredibly fresh too, but not as new or interesting as the other dishes mentioned. Still, this was an excellent meal, and a total surprise. I was expecting a bbq/mesquite place, but instead got treated to a gourmet meal.
google avatar

JaneSarah D.

Yelp
The Crème brûlée was the best tasting dessert of my life. Baked Brie was mouthwatering . Filet mignon was great dressed with Mushrooms. Dining outside was lovely. All servers are Sweet.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and a Biancr in wonderful building. Superb service and excellant food.

Yelp
This was a wonderful dining experience! The atmosphere is cozy, and the decor is eclectic and interesting. We ordered several specials- raw and grilled oysters, coconut prawns, and also the mesquite snapper with mushroom risotto. Everything was delicious!!! My dad loved the half and half of the brisket and ribs. We also really enjoyed the cheese plate, and dessert was fabulous. The creme brûlée was one of the best I've had and my mom loved the lemon tart. I'm sure that anything from that menu would be wonderful. Our server Becca was incredibly knowledgeable and kind. The food was a little pricey but well worth the experience for us

Angela M.

Yelp
We experienced a fabulous meal, with wonderful service. Everything was fantastically presented. From the appetizers to the creme Brule, could not recommend any thing better. Thank you to Paul(owner) and his amazing staff.

Barbara M.

Yelp
It's a long drive from Fortuna to Trinidad. However, the dinner at Larrupin was definitely worth it. Menu seems pricey, but portions are good and entrées include a lovely appetizer board. The ambience on the outside patio was lovely. Service was friendly and efficient. Reservations are recommended.
google avatar

Ed J.

Yelp
Wow what a great meal The lamb was delicious along with everything else. Seriously everything. The salad was organic from a local producer and was well dressed. Wines perfectly selected. Apps fantastic. Omg, it was an amazing meal and well priced considering the wonderful space and the quality of the food. Total diamond!

Shaolan L.

Yelp
My husband and I had dinner there for our anniversary . We had oysters and the roasted garlic for appetizers and then the snapper and chicken cordon bleu . We got food poisoning. Very disappointing to spend so much on dinner just to get sick.
google avatar

Lily M.

Yelp
This is exactly the type of restaurant you would go to in your dreams. It is simply magical! The carpet on every dining table gives that extra cozy feel. We were offered a plate of delicious bite sized snack before our entrees. The naked New York strip w the truffle butter was to die for! Every bite was so buttery. The barbecued steelhead was just ahhhhmazing. The crisp texture and smoky flavor complemented the delicate fish so perfectly. We finished with crème brûlée & ice wine. I cannot wait to come back here next.

Yelp
This was an excellent meal that was a lucky discovery on our way up the coast. Highly recommended.

The food, the service the ambience were all perfect and my birthday dinner was amazing

Yelp
Consistently one of our favorite restaurants for decades now. As a vegetarian I always get the spanikopita and as delicious as it is there is always enough to take home for leftovers. In Summer you can enjoy their patio with heaters sprinkled throughout the garden and some evenings there is even live music. They have a great wine menu with many local options too. Well worth the drive to Trinidad.
