My husband and I went to Las Lajas Beach Resort after living here in Panama for a year and listening to people rave about the resort. We already knew the beach was nice, because we’d been in the area twice. ||The resort was described to us as “kitschy,” but I find the resort endearing. The staff was absolutely wonderful and the young woman we met at the Reception desk spoke English quite well. ||The resort is quite colorfully painted, as many places in the Caribbean, at the beaches in the southern part of the US, and as many places in Panama are. We were in what is termed a “junior suite,” which has on demand hot water, AC, a water cooler, and a small fridge. We also had a TV, 2 not-quite-queen sized beds, a single bed, and a recliner sofa. The room was clean and comfortable. Beach towels (to use at the pool or the lounging area) were provided as were 1 washcloth, 2 hand towels, and 2 bath towels.||The food at the restaurant was very good; as with nearly every restaurant I’ve been in in Panama, the restaurant was open air but not exactly al fresco. We had a roof over our heads; the kitchen was enclosed, but there were no enclosed dining rooms. There are vegetarian and vegan offerings, which were excellent to see (and taste). ||One can sit under one of the palapas (a open air hut with a thatched roof made of dried palm leaves), out in the open air in a plastic chaise longue, swim in the pool, or relax in a hammock. ||The resort ends where the beach begins. Walking the beach is great fun and one may spot crabs, birds, shells, and driftwood. I saw a few people in the water but they seemed to be standing around talking and jumping in the waves, not swimming. ||This was a terrific place to come and relax. There’s not a lot of nightlife going on at this particular beach (unlike Myrtle Beach, SC; Daytona Beach, FL; or many other beaches in the US). We saw families with children who ranged in age from toddler to nearly adult. We encountered Panamanians as well as visitors from other countries.||We will definitely go back.
