6 Enchanting Secret Gardens Around the World

"Created by English poet and surrealist art collector Edward James, with the guidance of Plutarco Gastélum, Las Pozas is a serene garden hidden in the jungles of Mexico. The whimsical sculpture garden includes natural waterfalls and pools, a bathtub shaped like an eye, and surrealist structures like spiral staircases that end abruptly in midair." - Travel + Leisure Editors

We did the immersion tour where you arrive an hour before they open and you pay a lot more for your tour. It's definitely a great way to see the gardens because now a days you can't wander around on your own. You always have to be escorted while you're here but the tour gives you a more intimate view. It's highly recommended if a bit pricey. Yes, a visit is definitely worth it and yes, you should visit but keep an open mind. Wonderful place.

I've waited on this trip for quite some time so I was thrilled to be there. I used what's app to set up my private tour of the gardens and paid online a couple of months in advance for a private tour of the gardens. Well worth the time to book a private tour and get there early. The time spent and access to more areas than the normal tour is key to taking this fantasy land in. There are not enough words to describe this utterly astonishing landscape. Upon driving in, you lose yourself in the mountainside. Everything disappears behind you. Heaven lies in here... in the mountainside. The beauty, the sound of the birds, the water flowing all around, an unending array of fuana and flora intertwining with a wondrous concrete garden. Manuel was the impressive guide and chock full of information about the gardens. His love for the garden and its inhabitants shine. Thank you for having me. THANK YOU MANUEL! Please note: all tours will have a guide due to damage in the gardens by visitors and safety issues. No tours are given without a guide. The private tour set up ahead of time allows access to areas of the garden that normal daily tours do not access.

***Amazing*** We have so much fun, this place is simply amazing. We went in March and it wasn't that hot. I saw many comments before about the heat and humidity. Neither of those were issues for us. Because of the drought that was affecting the entire world on the time of my visit, there was very little water and some pozas were completely dried. Hope that when you visit the park will have more water ... Even with lack of water, I do recommend this place. The views and drive leading up to the park were breathtaking 🤩

Out of this world experience. The history of this guy who had the imagination to build this in a jungle is amazing. The structures are incredible. More than 7,000 steps all over. The tour guide explains the history of the artist/owner and how his vision all began.

Yelp
WOW !!! JUST Wow!!! This place is breathe taking.. LAS POZAS meaning "The Pools" is a surrealistic garden created by Edward James, in a subtropical rainforest in the Sierra Gorda mountains of Mexico. This place was amazing it has natural waterfalls and pools with surrealist sculptures of concrete in the middle of a rainforest... We were visiting San Luis Potosí and drove to Xilitla to stay in a cabin in the middle of the beautiful rainforest... We went right after things had opened up again from covid so it was not that busy since people were still scared to travel... We did not know that you had to buy pre-sale tickets for Las Pozas at the museum before entering. So we had to wait until the next day to go in... The ticket includes entrance to the museum which is located in El Centro and entrance to Las Pozas.. They give you a guided walking tour throughout Las Pozas and let you take photos as you move throughout Las Pozas... Our tour guide was great and gave so much detail about the surrealist sculptures and Edward James... I would recommend checking this place out, it is so beautiful and stunning... The location is pretty hard to get to because the road could be dangerous to drive depending on the weather conditions.. We rented a car and drove from the Centro of San Luis Potosi, but I'm pretty sure there are busses that will take you to the museum or other tours... Definitely 5 stars for this beautiful place...

Yelp
What can I tell you. This was one of the of the hidden gems from my home state. Last time we were here was around 15 yrs ago. Xilitla has grown so much since our last visit, and certainly this is one of the biggest reasons why. A must see place if you are in town and have plenty of time to spend at least half a day for this visit. Why? Well, we made the mistake of arriving around 1pm, thinking that we would be inside by 1:30 and done by 5. The line was soooooooo long that it took us almost 3 hrs to get inside. Even though the whole ticketing process takes less than 5 min, this place has a capacity of 800 visitors, so if you are 801, you have to wait until one leaves so you get a ticket to get in. This was the painful part...once inside you can walk around to visit every single corner of this marvelous place. The interesting part is that you can take a stair to the floor and end up at the ceiling or into a different room with a fountain, a room, a surrealist sculpture or to a beautiful water pond connected to the river flow. There are two separate places to visit here, one which is the surrealist castle, and the second the "pozas", which are the water ponds where you can take a dive, refresh yourself and enjoy the waterfall at the top which flows into the pond. Just be careful when walking into the pozas, as the pathway is made out of stone which is very slippery when wet. Since most people walk out from this place to the exit in wet clothes, it will always be slippery . Definitely it was worth the wait and the time spent here. My son was the only one being sad for not having enough time to get into the water, as security was already asking everyone to leave as they close at 6pm. I'll make sure next time to arrive earlier so we can enjoy longer...!

Yelp
There is no new year new me. What you see is what you get. Soft Tummy, taco loving, funny pants wearing, selfie taking, CRAZY Latina. Crazier than most of you guys can handle, but man o man, do I wish I had met this Edward James who sounds to have been as eccentric and eclectic as myself. Reality check, he was so much more, I only do the eccentric and eclectic with my wardrobe and day dreaming. This rainforest, surrealist open air castle, is what my daydreams are made of. It's like getting lost in The NeverEnding Story or Narnia but in real life. The village of Xilitla in San Luis Potosi, Mexico is an 8 hour drive from the closest airport in Mexico City. The road trip includes non-stop full day's drive of winding roads. Intense if you are coming from Mexico City and I suggest you only make the drive through those mountains during the day. Extremely dangerous with Mexican drivers in NO RULES Mexico. When I tell my kids to do something or not do something they reply "it's okay it's Mexico we can do whatever" I did not teach them that. By dangerous, I am only speaking the narrow roads, cliffs with no barriers, and speed racers, not what you see on the news. There are two options here. First, Jardin Escultorico (Edward James Garden) is the same thing as Las Pozas (The Pools). One entrance you see both, the fee for this is 70 pesos for adults and 35 Pesos for kids. This is not economical but Dirt-cheap! Then option two, just around the bend there is Los Comales and it's a small easy trail to a waterfall with a fee of its own. You CAN afford it. Take the tour if you would like, I am sure they are informative and you could learn quite a bit about Edward James, his family, and reasons behind it all. I am not a fan of large crowds when exploring, plus they seem to take you only to the most important sites. As you wait for everyone to get that perfect picture you are killing a lot of precious time. This garden is so large you can literally get lost in the tropical forest plus you are allowed to. We climbed every little bit, in winter the day after Christmas and it was a workout, so hot. Just imagine coming during the summer. The benefit to a summer trip you get to enjoy Las Pozas, on one end of the garden there is a waterfall and then pools that gather at the bottom. Colder than your ex! My kids enjoyed it; I stayed away much like I stay away from my ex. They sell Ice Cream just outside and that's their slogan, We all enjoyed the Ice Cream. Yumminess! This was a family trip, but I will day dream about making it a romantic trip some day during the summer getting hot and sweaty and taking a dip in the cold pools. *head in the clouds*

Yelp
Xilitla is an amazing small town in the state of San Luis Potosí Mexico. We went here in late January and it was slightly colder then I expected. It's high up in the mountains and the los Pozas here at Edward James garden are just breathtaking.
