14 Essential Mexican Dishes to Try on Your Next Trip - AFAR

"A go-to for tlayudas, the Oaxacan 'open‑faced' toasted or pan‑fried tortilla piled with toppings such as carne asada, chicharrón, refried beans, lettuce or cabbage, avocado, salsas, and melted Oaxacan cheese—often likened to an Oaxacan pizza." - Sophie Friedman

The best tlayudas in Oaxaca without a doubt. I stayed in Oaxaca for 2 weeks and I’m writing this on my 4th visit - had to get one last in before I leave! The tlayudas are jam packed with ingredients and stringy, delicious quesillo. I only at the falda de costilla and the meat was tender and juicy. They do make it with Manteca (pork talo) so they can be a bit on the greasy side - but that’s also probably part of the amazing taste. They’re huge so (sometimes) you’ll have enough for left overs. And the salsas are all the die for, so thank goodness their generous with their servings of it. You’ll see mostly locals eating here (except during day of the dead) which is always a good sign. Service can be a little slow and the waiters are young boys who are hustling to keep up with crowds but can be a little forgetful - hence the 4 stars. BUT the food is worth the patience

Found this place as it was close to our hotel and we were too tired to walk into the centre of town. My tlayuda was amazing and my wife really enjoyed her pozole. Definitely worth a visit.

Tried my first tlayuda here, and although it was tasty, the tortilla was very tough

Las Tlayudas Antojeria is a great place for dinner. Pozole is great, the Tacos are amazing and very big. Jamaica water was vwry tasty. We also ordered a Tlayuda which was excellent.

We loved this place last year, but our experience in 2023 was very different. The tlayuda de costilla wasn't nearly as tasty as previously, also the salsas were bland. But the worst part was the service, our server didn't bring the beer I ordered (in Spanish) and didn't return to our table once after taking our order. I tried to get her attention while she delivered beers to other tables but was ignored. When we went to pay she encouraged me to tip, which I reluctantly did even though she didn't deserve it. That being said, we won't return.

The food here is quite good, but the service is extremely slow and disorganized. Each dish arrived separately, with at least a 20-minute gap between them, making it difficult to enjoy a meal together. The staff didn’t seem to care at all, and it looked like there was only one person cooking, which might explain the delays. The overall experience felt chaotic, and unless they improve their efficiency and service, it’s hard to recommend this place.

This is a bit more finer tlayuda place than the ones on the street. But it is well worth the visit since the tlayudas were among best tasting we had in Mexico. Also, the included Chepiche herb was a nice addition and the accompanying sauces were top notch.

We walked into Las Tlayudas by accident and so glad we did! The tacos are absolutely phenomenal. We had tlayudas for the first time and our mind was blown. Absolutely recommend this place.
