I like the flavors and the beverages. Here are the two issues: menu is extremely high carb and low protein. Also, takes the staff a long time to heat things up and they don't clearly notify you if things are ready if you are sitting outside. Haven't been here in 4 months so things may have improved.
I know it is a vegetarian cafe, but really, as someone married into a South Asian Family I know what can be done to balance the protein/carb ratio in a meal. Not looking for extreme low carb, but just maybe capping a meal at 45-60 grams of carbs and getting 20 grams of protein. For diabetes prevention/ blood sugar management.
With this place, all I really want is a bowl of dal and a small cup of brown rice to accompany it with a side of sautéed veg or something. Beans for protein. I'm all about rajma and chana masala, but please leave the potatoes out! Just the legumes! Legumes and veg please! I do not need sliders made of a potato patty on a white flour bun! With sweetened beverages!
There just isn't a way to eat here that doesn't send my blood glucose spiking.
The menu really does make it a snack place and not a place for lunch in my mind. A snack place for people who can handle a really high carb snack with no protein to balance.
Too bad, because this place is near my house and a playground where I can take my kid and rendezvous with other parents for lunch.
Also, on several occasions the staff spent a lot of time talking/ training someone new and it took over 30 min to get my snack/lunch ready while my toddler melted down outside. Pace of putting things on grill was so slow, very strange. Lots of talk and careful patting of food as if taking lots of effort. No one let us know food was ready. "Oh, you could just look through the window and see it is here on the counter for you."
Totally frustrating. And then, what??!! My chana masala is mostly potato and that's not even something I can have for lunch without blood sugar headache afterwards?
Two stars for chai being great and this place having potential to change ideally.
