Just happened to visit the museum after a hike and loved it. Many mining related artifacts, friendly and helpful staff, and many more remnants of Juneau’s mining history. Beautiful location, but might be challenging for handicapped individuals to get to.

Such amazing information. The man that was volunteering had so much great information. We panned for gold in the stream. So relaxing and fun.

Cute little museum ran by volunteers. $5 cash admission fee gets you in to see the impressive collection of mining equipment. Volunteers are very knowledgeable about the old ways of mining. Notable is the steep incline to get in either a walk up a gravel path or a large flight of stairs. Beautiful scenery all around makes it worth the trip!

Great museum for Juneau’s mining history. Be aware that it is not handicapped accessible. You must walk a trail and cross a foot bridge and hike up to the museum.

It's a little challenging to get to, but there's great history of the area to be learned here. Other mine experiences charge $60 and up, whereas this is just $5. While it doesn't go into a mine, you get a great understanding of all the mining that went on in Juneau. Enjoy the drive in, the walk across the bridge, and all the ground. My family very much enjoyed our visit and we're glad we didn't pay $60 per person for the other mine experiences in town.

Cool little museum that appears to be family run. Emery for adults in $5 and we’re not charged for an 11 year old. Takes about 15 minutes to get through the museum. Best part was purchasing a plastic gold pan kit for $8 and then actually panning and finding gold flakes in the river below. Tip: Take taxi / ride share up to the mine and then walk back to town about 30 minutes, it’s beautiful.

Wow what an experience. Tons to learn about and the collection is incredible. Definitely worth the stop. Dig for gold in the stream and I even found some:)

Excellent history given by volunteer at the museum. We walked from the cruise ship and it took us 30 minutes to get there.

Yelp
Great little find off the beaten path about 2 miles from the seaport (do not let the city map fool you, it's more than 1 mile off Basin Road). It is a small museum, and almost seems family-runned. You hike past town uphill and through the wilderness a bit, though it is on a path. Once you get close by, it almost seems as if you're still hiking but you past by a bridge where tourists are mining for gold to your left and up ahead is a bridge that goes over a serene, rushing stream. Once you're at the museum, you see historical pieces used during the mining days stacked outside. When you enter, it's an old rustic feel that makes you feel like you're back in the gold rush days. The museum is tiny. You can see the entire place from the front door. However, there is a ton to see from old hammers/tools to pictures of miners to carts where the rubble was held. Endless. The guy in front who will take your $5 entry fee and kinda looks like St. Nick is extremely knowledgeable and will pretty much spontaneously give you a tour/history lesson if you engage him - very sweet and genuinely excited about the place. It may be a bit far but worth a visit and its a nice hike if you have about 3-4 hours to kill in Juneau.

Yelp
This museum was a nice little museum with some good displays but I was somewhat disappointed overall. I was just hoping for more from the museum. They are inexpensive and it was a nice way to spend some time learning about the mining in the region.

Yelp
Great museum with cool design that reflects on how things were during the gold rush in Alaska. Great hiking trails, cool river to pan for gold at, and is protected by one of the coolest dogs we ever met. Fun day overall!

Yelp
I had planned to hike the Perseverance trail but after walking up from the cruise pier, I was exhausted and saw the signs for the Last Chance Mining Museum. I followed the path to the main gate and noticed that their hours said that they were closed from 12:30 to 3:00 p.m. I was there at 1 p.m. and no way was I going to walk back to town and back again to the museum. I decided to walk to the museum building anyway because the path was picturesque. The lights were out inside the museum but the front door was ajar. Someone must have seen me walk up because I heard a voice from inside saying "Hello" I asked if they were open and she said "We could be if you want" So, she turned the lights on for me and I was able to dry off (it rained most of my walk), rest up and view the museum, all for just $5. The museum had interesting items but isn't very well curated. There are very few signs explaining the exhibit pieces. The museum is run by a husband and wife. When they have errands to run in town, the museum is closed. If they happen to be around during their scheduled closed hours, they are happy to open it up.

Yelp
The history and the area was very interesting. The old equipment they had was very cool and it gave you a feel for what the miners went through. The area alone was worth the trip there.
