The Best of Weird Florida

"On January 9, 1991, police arrested Aileen Wuornos while she was drinking a beer at The Last Resort biker bar in Port Orange, Florida. Though she was arrested for an outstanding warrant, a decade later she would be put to death for the murder of six men. Wuornos has become a controversial figure. She was clearly a complicated, tragic figure (she grew up poor and sexually abused, claimed that the murders she committed were in self-defense as her johns attempted to rape her, and was poorly represented by an attorney who called himself “Dr. Legal”), and she was depicted this way in the 2003 film Monster. Given the rarity of female serial killers, Wuornos’ case gained widespread media attention, but she also became famous for her last words before her 2002 execution: “Yes, I would just like to say I’m sailing with the rock, and I’ll be back, like Independence Day, with Jesus. June 6, like the movie. Big mother ship and all, I’ll be back, I’ll be back.” Since the incident, not much has changed at The Last Resort. It’s still frequented by bikers, and features a “Japanese garden” of motorcycles dangling from an old oak. However, the decor has been altered to remember Wuornos’ last drink here. Pictures of her plaster the walls, including her mug shot. A mural on the bar’s brick wall depicts her craggy face and a list of her victims. Perhaps less tastefully (but more tastily) the bar has also branded its own “Crazed Killer Hot Sauce.”" - ATLAS_OBSCURA

True crime buffs will enjoy a visit here for the history. Al, the owner is kind and friendly, a man of many interesting stories. Cold bottled beer served with a smile . No liquor . It is the epitome of a dive bar , a must see in Daytona Beach 🤙🏻 RIP Aileen Wuornos 10/09/2002

Google
I had a fantastic time at The Last Resort Bar! The atmosphere was super cool and had a great vibe. The staff was friendly, and the drinks were top-notch. I highly recommend it if you're looking for a cool place to hang out.

Google
It's a dive bar don't expect anything fancy, but we had a great time. The beer was cold, and the owner and 2 other people there were very nice. I'm glad I went and was able to add another check on my serial killer bucket list

Google
I really wanted to visit the place. The website showed it opened at 10 a.m., and we got there at 10ish; a nice lady said it opened around noon. I left without experiencing the place. I hope next time the schedule is more accurate so that I can stop by and enjoy it the next time I am in town.

Google
awesome place and one of its kind. we felt welcome in the middle of strangers from the very beginning. the lady at the outdoor bar was incredible friendly and helpful. the locals where easy going, funny, polite and friendly. it's a heartwarming place.

Google
The people here are so cool. Wish i had the chance to talk to the owner who knew aileen, but he was kinda busy. He still lets people in need stay out back in campers which I thought was pretty cool. Stuff is everywhere. I really loved it.

Mike Johnson

Google
Hate say this we always enjoyed this place, sure went bad. Nothing to do or enjoy there no more. I'm sure the hurricane did not help them. They need to find ways for guest to enjoy this location again or they will become victim to failure and it has so much history to Florida

Dan Wallace

Google
This place is a MUST STOP. Al, the owner and Ell were awesome to chat with. I ended up being the only one there as they were gonna close. Beer was $3 and cold. There were 1000 cool things to check out and look at! Ell gave a great tour and explained the history of the place and the history about Aileen Wournos. The caskets and Ghostbusters car were a nice touch! When crowded I can only imagine how awesome. Check it out! Not easily forgotten!!!

Yelp
This experience was EXACTLY what I was hoping for ! Bikers, Dive Bar Lovers & Serial Killer Junkies Alike! THE WORLD FAMIUS LAST RESORT BAR IS A MUST VISIT! Located in Daytona... Port Orange, to be specific is the world famous bar, where Aileen Wuornos the first female, serial killer frequented! - "ice, cold beer, and killer women" Is written on the welcome billboard and can be found in various spots throughout the dive bar - the owner Al zeimer is incredibly kind and welcoming, hilarious and full of wonderful stories about Aileen herself ! What it was like to know her, drink with her & Ofcourse photos of filming with Charlize Theron. This is the only place in the world. You can buy the official T-shirt from the bar with aileen's photo on it. - The beers are ice cold, the bar is a classic dive bar with macabre vibes, Polaroids & signatures from ROOF TO FLOORBOARD, complete with a BIG bad a$$ outdoor area and stage ! - We visited this bar in the afternoon, but I can't wait to come back and experience the nightlife for myself... By far, even if you're not interested in serial killers, this is one of the coolest dive bars to visit, everyone is friendly, and I just can't think of a better atmosphere or better stories to drink around! - I cannot wait to visit again !

Yelp
This place is interesting to say the least lol the bartender fit the vibe and I guess they only serve beer here, no hard alcohol unfortunately (4 stars) the bartender did have a cold seltzer drink for me though. Great place to check out, especially if you're a true crime junkie! I've been out to Daytona for Biketoberfest, but this looks like a cool place to hang out during bike week if I'm ever in the area during that time!

Yelp
I've been coming to The Last Resort as part of my Daytona Bike Week for as long as I can remember! Fantastic biker bar with a nice back bar and courtyard area. Bartenders are great!

Yelp
So awesome to enjoy a great top notch dive bar with a serial killer history. The owner is a knowledgeable fun guy I sat at the outside bar Aileen Wuornos was arrested in this bar she killed 7 men and would sleep outside where the back bar is. It's possibly one of the most awesome dive bars I've ever been too. The movie Monster was filmed here starring Charlize Theron who won an academy award for her portrayal of Aileen Wuornos the first female serial killer...

Yelp
Mother of all dive bars!!!! Serial killer hangout history is wayyyy cool! Easy to get to. Good bartender. Two bottles of coors light was $7. Bought a couple bumper stickers. Must stop here again when visiting Florida

Yelp
I was so excited to stop at this bar not only for the famous Aileen Wuornos. But for the hole in the wall feel. It's definitely a good dive bar, very welcoming patrons and owner. Bull is very nice, After serving us beers he gladly gave us a tour of Aileen memorabilia. In shock by her real photos, shes much prettier then the movie projected. It was fascinating reading a news article about the haunting Aileen has brought to Last Resort since 02'. Before leaving al signed my beer bottle! Thanks for a great time!

Yelp
The Last Resort is a true biker dive bar. Its the infamos bar where Florida female serial killer Aileen Wuornos used to pick up men. They have fully embraced their noteriety. Her image is everywhere, giving the place a macabre history. Beyond that, its a good place to just hang out. Its a place for bikers. Behind the building is a bigger area to walk around and take in the 'ambiance.' They even have a shop to get your tshirt.

Yelp
This place is pretty aptly named, it is a true dive. I had to stop by to pay homage to a famous female serial killer, and add some gear to cycle through some rain. They have a large outside area to park and congregate in. The drinks were expensive and the bathrooms were disgusting, so bear that in mind.

Yelp
This is a Five Star Dive Bar. So, you might know I love it and if you're a Harley biker, it's a must. It's totally fascinating with more little junkie things to see and explore around than any other bar on earth. It's also historic for some good and some horrible reasons. The motto of the place seems to be "Home of Cold Beer and Serial Killers." The cold beer part is true as well as the serial killer thing. This is where Aileen Wuornos hung out and where she was arrested. Her claim to fame was that of a serial killer who between 1989 and 1990 is known to have murdered seven men, but of course that is only "those known to have been murdered." Like how many bars are known to have been the hangs of a female serial killer of men? Of course she claimed them all to have been in self-defense but that was a little more self-defense than the police or anyone else could swallow; so to speak. Anyway, as far as biker dive bars go, Last Resort Bar is one of the very best of them, but as a dive bar, not for the timid.

Yelp
Drove 120 miles to come out here for a beer during operating hours. Arrived 1 1/2 hours before close and I was told to come back tomorrow. If you're open until ten stay open until then.

Yelp
A must see stop in daytona! If you want authentic people with the surroundings to match. Something to read or investigate in every corner. I could be occupied for hours there. So many years of memories written on their walls. The vibes were indescribable. The owner is original and extremely friendly. The locals were very welcoming and interesting. I will never step foot into Florida workout stopping in!

Yelp
i've been fascinated by poor Aileen Wuornos since long before i burst into tears during the roller skating scene in "Monster", so when vacationing in Daytona, i dosed my kids with NyQuil and Pay per View and set out to meet an old friend at the place Aileen, iconoclastic hipster, enjoyed her last PBR. when i finally found the place, i was too terrified to enter alone. so i waited, trembling in the parking lot, for my friend, my biker bar liaison, with a Three Wolf Moon, *ahem* lower back tattoo, to join me. (i shit you not.) when she arrived, we embraced under the archway declaring The Last Resort the Home of Cold Beer and Killer Women, i bummed a Marlboro Light and we ducked inside where my wildest expectations were immediately fulfilled. i told the bartender, i'd like a Crown and coke and he shot back, "so would i, honey." only beer and...did he mention wine? i don't recall, but i doubt it. my friend ordered a Coors Light and Big Al rustled me up a Lynchburg Lemonade. it was clear that it had been a long time since anyone had asked about Aileen, but Big Al and the other lone patron were happy to regale us for over an hour with tales of their brush with infamy. said that Tyria Moore didn't look a damn thing like Christina Ricci. he gave me a bunch of misprinted stickers from their "Killer Hot Sauce" and i bought a souvenir bottle, thinking they could have used a more flattering photo of its namesake. unlike Wournos, i won't be back, but it made for a memorable afternoon.

Yelp
"The home of ice cold beer and killer women" is the slogan for the Last Resort. As many know, this was the local hangout of "Monster" and serial killer, Aileen Wuornos. The bar itself is really, really tiny, with a pool table and writing all over the walls. Legend has it that Aileen wrote something on the wall... but good luck finding it! (if you do, take a picture and let me know!!). I last went there during Biketoberfest and they had lots of booths/vendors outside for the event. This is a fun place to stop at on the way to/from Daytona.

Yelp
when you visit The Famous Last Resort Bar, just get your facts straight and know that it was Famous long before Eileen came and went, yes she helped put the bar more on the list for bikers and yuppies to come and see where a troubled woman had her last beer in a public setting and if you have to fret about paying a little extra for a beer when you go there to see and feel a part of American history, then boo hoo to you!!!!! There is a lot of work that goes into getting ready for Bike Week, it may be a hole in the wall to some people but if you look around on the walls you will see evidence of a lot of other history and good times that have gone on in that bar and don't forget about all of the wonderful vendors that come and set up their booths for you and all the hard work that goes into giving you a good and memorable experience, just sit back, relax and enjoy an ice cold beer and a lot of stories to be told. My family and myself have been going there for many years and will continue to go back, again and again, if you have not been you need to go at least once in your life so you can go home and brag to your friends and tell them that you went to the Famous Last Resort Bar and they will think you are a bad ass for sure. Big Al is a great man with lots of stories to tell because he has owned that bar for over thirty years and has seen a lot of comings and goings. There is nothing to fear walking into this bar, it is run by family and friends, there to make sure you have a good time!!!!! And don't forget to tip your bartenders while you are there cause they bust their asses too!!!!!! It's easy to e afraid of the unknown but you will never now if you don't GO!!!!

Lynda V.

Yelp
This place is a pit. The owner could at least replace the disgusting bar stools. He is charging more for beer than everyone else in town during bike week.

Kevin R.

Yelp
I have going to this bar and this bar only for many years. I do not even drink but the atmosphere of truly being free is thick all over the property. I do not care what any one else says or thinks of this place I have thought it to be the best in the area. The people are great and the business is just as it should be. This place makes me want to move back just so I can enter its doors every day instead of just on visits. THERE IS NO PLACE LIKE THE LAST RESORT.
