LATROUPE Jacobs Inn Dublin

Amazing hostel! I stayed here for 8 nights and I did enjoy my stay. I stayed in the 10 beds female only dorm and it was super spacious and comfortable with personal lockers and tents. I gave 4stars because I would have preferred the toilet separated from the shower and because the kitchen is not available. It’s in a quite safe area with the Garda station in the next building.

This is a well-run, large, loud hostel. I stayed here (in a 4-person room) at the beginning and end of a 2-week trip. I got the breakfast during my first stay. It was fine, but I opted out the second time through. There are left-luggage lockers available, but their hourly rate is quite expensive. The rooms are in good shape and are cleaned very well. BYO towel or rent for 4 euros. My first mattress felt hard underneath my shoulder, but the second was much more comfortable. On both stays I found the bedroom unusually loud--the big hallways, high foot traffic, and hard surfaces everywhere (including the walls of your pod) make for a noticeable boominess--all sounds are amplified. Fine if you're a heavy sleeper. As a solo traveler, I found the hugeness-plus-busyness of the place a little off-putting--I didn't connect with other people as easily as I have at other hostels. That's always random, of course. Overall, the experience was fine, but if I passed through again I'd probably try out another option. As a side note, the Dublin Express bus (which the hostel recommends) is a great, easy way to get to/from the airport.

I had a great stay overall and really enjoyed the atmosphere of this hostel. The staff were kind, welcoming, and always helpful, and the place was clean and well maintained. The only downside was that one bathroom for around ten people felt a bit too limited, especially during busy hours. That said, everything else was cool and well organized, and the general vibe made the stay very pleasant. A great place overall, with just a small improvement needed.

Overall, I enjoyed my stay at Latroupe Jacobs Inn in Dublin. I stayed in a 4 pod female room. I really enjoyed the privacy of the layouts of the beds. The beds are in little pods with curtains which is a much nicer feel than traditional bunk beds. The major drawback here in my opinion is the value and service. I paid for 4 nights with breakfast (booked a while ago so didn’t remember this). At check-in, the worker did not give me my breakfast vouchers, explain how breakfast worked, or give me the wifi password. I didn’t realize until halfway through my stay that I had already paid for breakfast and thus had not gone (a different worker told me I had paid for breakfast when I was renting a towel.) Additionally, you feel a bit nickeled and dined with charges for towels, luggage storage, etc. Your towel is taken each day when the room is cleaned, so you have to collect a new one each day (this wasn’t communicated to me either by the workers). Overall, good location and room, but lacking some in regards to service and value.

The hostel was very clean and had a lively atmosphere. I really liked the pod-style beds with curtains, which gave some privacy, and the beds were quite comfortable. There was also plenty to do around the hostel. On the downside, there were quite a lot of rules, particularly no alcohol in the rooms, which felt restrictive. We could also hear everyone walking past early in the morning, and a group of people even walked into our private room, which wasn’t ideal.

The facilities for the room were great. It was clean and comfortable and particularly liked the locker systems in the room and the coding goki around the place. The kitchen facilities with the kettle and microwave could do with some improvements - this space was very dreary. The couple of things that brought it to a 4 star for me was the heating of the place, we found it unbearably hot which made sleeping and being in the hostel quite uncomfortable (coming from 2 Aussies!). The showers and bathrooms were clean and really functional. Always the thing I look for at a hostel. However having a 15 second timer tap is not user friendly. I am all for saving water and think timed showers is a great initiative, but 15 seconds doesn’t quite so the trick, perhaps a 2 minute timer is the way to go. Thanks for the great stay. Loved the ambiance and atmosphere of this place.

I stayed at the hostel for three nights as a solo female traveler. I felt very comfortable there. The hostel was easy to find and a perfect base for a city trip in Dublin; everything was within walking distance. The neighborhood didn't feel unsafe to me. The staff were always friendly and happy to answer all my questions. The cleaning staff were also friendly. The cabins in the bedroom offered a lot of privacy. They weren't very long, but since I'm short, they were sufficient for me. It's true that the cabins get very warm (been there in november!), but with short pajamas, it wasn't a problem. The safe offered plenty of space and was easy to use. The bathroom was clean, but that of course also depends on the other guests in the room. We had a fire alarm one night because a guest was smoking in one of the rooms (my advice: don't do that!). Aside from the fact that nobody likes getting up in the middle of the night, I was glad to know that the system worked in an emergency. No panic broke out, and the situation was resolved quickly and calmly. Breakfast was fine. The only thing I personally missed was baked beans.

Overall it’s a great value and location for a hostel, however you pay what you get. Personally just not for me. I like that there is privacy in the pods however they get very hot once inside, I had other people in my room sleep with only underwear with how hot they got. Expect to possibly have people who are sick as well, I personally did not like that as there was coughing and sneezing everywhere which was not satisfying on my end. One thing to note you do have to pay for the buffet breakfast and if you need a towel you also pay for it. Lockers have a built in lock system in the rooms specifically for carry ons, larger luggage is stored by the front desk. Overall it’s a good stay for a hostel but expect some downsides to trading affordability with such points above.
