The setting is undeniably beautiful, but unfortunately the food did not live up to the price. My husband and I chose this restaurant to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary and booked our table months in advance, so our expectations were high.
He ordered the standard tasting menu and I opted for the vegetarian menu. It was immediately apparent that significantly more thought and care went into the non-vegetarian dishes. For example, in one course, his plate was introduced with a detailed explanation of its complexity and preparation, while mine was described simply as “veggies cooked in the oven” which ultimately arrived as soggy, under-seasoned artichokes. My main was a pasta dish with 5 tiny cheese ravioli in a tomato sauce that was reminiscent of canned Chef Boyardee. Overall, he did like his dishes better than mine, but aside from one dish that appeared on both menus and that we both enjoyed, nothing else stood out as memorable or remarkable. (I should note that I did send an email to the restaurant providing feedback on the experience and they assured me they put as much thought and care into their veg dishes as their traditional menu...so YMMV.)
The cocktails were similarly underwhelming, although the wine selections were solid. Service felt very choreographed and was slow, and not in a way that enhanced the experience or encouraged us to relax and enjoy the evening. It felt a little like they were putting on a show (think synchronized laying down of napkins). We actually ended up skipping a course because, after 2.5 hours of underwhelming food, we were ready to go. (And, no they wouldn't box it up for us, citing food safety issues...it was the cheese course...not to mention the man sitting next to us got multiple dishes boxed up.)
Given that the meal came to over $600 USD, the experience was a major disappointment and fell far short of expectations. While we'll gladly pay for great inventive food and service, this just wasn't worth it. Save your money and put it toward a room where you can enjoy a beautiful view...that's really what you're paying for here.
