We stayed at Lava Pond Lodge for 4 nights while exploring the Eastern side of Hawai’i during our first trip to the Big Island. It was a very relaxing and quiet place for us to return to each evening after the hustle and bustle of tourism throughout the day.||Sarah is an amazingly gracious host who always made sure that all of our many questions were answered. My youngest often has many questions about local fauna and flora, but Sarah was knowledgeable to answer all of my kiddo’s inquiries. One other couple was staying at this lovely BNB during our stay, but Sarah did a great job of making introductions so that we could be friendly and conversational with these otherwise total strangers during the stay. Sarah has explored this island paradise thoroughly and gave us some great recommendations for some amazing places we could tack onto our itinerary which matched our vibe and interests.||Each morning we were treated by Sarah to a delicious breakfast with some very healthy options. Sarah also provided some more savory comfort food options like a griddled egg, cheese, and ham sandwich on an English Muffin. I have never had it made quite like that before, but it was a lot of fun to make and tasted great! The coffee was always plentiful in the mornings to energize us for the day ahead.||The place was very clean, well kept, and the amenities were plentiful. There was a large common area where we were able to hangout as a family during the occasional rainstorms and made for some lasting memories as a family. This place is in the middle of a jungle-like rainforest with lots of interesting and beautiful plants to get some Instagram-able photos in.||Sarah’s husband Leo was also aware that we were interested in visiting Volcanoes National Park and he let us know that Kīlauea was erupting around 5:30AM the first day so that we could make it over to the park in time for capturing this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get photos with some fountaining lava flows. Thank you Leo for the insider info!||Highly recommend a stay at this place, I would give it 10 stars if that were an option!

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights to be close to Volcano National Park. It's less than 10 minutes from the park, so it's a very convenient location. We booked the Ohia room, which is small, but was fine for our needs for our 3 nights there. We met Rhonda and Sarah - both of whom are very nice, accommodating, and informative. Sarah is a world traveler, so talking about all our adventures was fun. Sarah also has great suggestions for things to do around Volcano and the island in general. The breakfasts were all delicious! Loved the papaya bowl, banana bread, scones, and hot items. They also have cookies in the evening and offer other snacks, too. Parking can be tricky if you have a large vehicle like we did, but we made it work. No AC in the house, but we were out during the day and the nights were cooler, so we left the window open a bit and turned on the fan and were fine. There's a heated blanket on the bed too, which was a nice touch. Would absolutely recommend staying here and wouldn't hesitate to book again in the future! Thanks for a great few days in Volcano!

Amazing B&B with the most hospitable hosts. They prepare a breakfast spread every morning with a warm item, fruit and tons of pastries and beverages. Rooms are clean and the place is beautiful! Just off the main road so it feels private without being too far. We stayed in the orchid room and they were so accommodating - brought in an extra table and chair so we could work remotely from our space. Took us 5 min to drive to the park entrance and we were able to text the hosts for recs on where to see lava glow etc etc. Would absolutely recommend staying here!

We were stranded because of the tsunami warning, and Sarah was gracious enough to fit us in at the last minute. The property and house are beautiful, it's close the volcano, and it has everything you need. Thanks Sarah!

We stayed at the Lava Pond Lodge B&B for 2 nights in February and had 2 rooms. Everything about our experience was wonderful!||Location: This is such a perfect place to stay if you want a great experience on the big island that is totally different from the Kona area. We loved the area and how the B&B is nestled in the rainforest and so close to Hawaii Volcanoes NP. And it’s not too far from Hilo or the black sand beaches either. | |We had two rooms. My husband and I shared the Kipuka, which has 2 twins and a lovely screened in lanai. Even though the room and bathroom are small it had everything we needed. We loved the heated mattress pad, which we turned on before bed, then off when we were warmed up. It’s so nice getting into a warm bed on a cool evening in February. ||Our son stayed in the Wild Ginger which was just across the hall. It was a more spacious queen bedded room with a larger bathroom. These 2 rooms share a refrigerator/freezer in the hall, which had complimentary water and Aloha juices, and on top there were snacks & cookies! All very much appreciated. ||We got a peek at the Royal Orchid room and it was especially spacious and beautiful. ||We used the hot tub one day, which was awesome! We also took advantage of the sizable living room to use our laptops, chat with other visitors and watch TV at night. It felt like a home away from home. ||And Sarah’s breakfast was delicious! Besides the fresh papaya with bananas and optional yogurt, there was always a prepared egg dish and a selection of pastries and toast with delicious spreads. The coffee was especially good and Sarah told us it was the med-dark roast from Ka’u coffee mills, which we later purchased to bring home. There was also bottled water to refill your bottle, or dispense hot water for tea or hot chocolate. ||While we were there we ate at Kilauea lodge and the Rim (at Volcano house), which are close by. We also stopped at the Kilauea general store for beer. Sarah provided a list of many other small eateries and stores in the immediate area. She has a lot of maps and can provide you with everything you need to know and what to do while you’re there. ||We can highly recommend Lava Pond Lodge!

Great location near the park, lovely room with lots of sweet touches. Sarah was really nice and gave us some good insider tips for navigating the park, finding parking, and getting the best views. We would absolutely stay there again. Comfy bed, too!

The Lava Pond Lodge was an amazing place to stay at Volcanoes National Park. We loved the charming accommodations, proximity to all the activities within Volcanoes, and most of all the care that the hosts showed to us. Morning breakfast was amazing not only for the food but also for casual conversation and recommendations from the hosts and other travelers.||10/10 would stay again and recommend to others!

This place is amazing! It is so nice to have a true B&B experience - these seem a rare find these days. We stayed in the Royal Orchid room - it was private and spacious with its own enormous bathroom and jacuzzi tub that we didn't have time to use. We did however use the shared hot tub outside on the deck, which was magical in the rain. The property is completely surrounded by vegetation and feels like you are in a lush tropical jungle (which you sort of are). The breakfasts were lovely - we really enjoyed starting with fresh local fruit, but there were plenty of other goodies to ensure we were filled up before big hiking days. There were also free snacks around, and coffee in the room. We really appreciated the information - the guidebook in the room had really detailed information about various hikes in the park which helped us make the most of our 1.5 days there (even with almost no pre-planning), and over breakfast Rhonda gave us lots of useful local intel. It's a nice short drive to the few restaurants and shops in Volcano Village (though it is very dark at night), and only 10min or so into the National Park itself. We would absolutely stay again for a visit to Volcanoes National Park, and would probably alsochoose to stay here to visit Hilo and other east side attractions.

Yelp
We had the very best vacation ever staying with Sarah at Lava Pond Lodge! First off, the lodge is incredibly close to the entrance for Volcanoes National Park. We were able to leave the lodge and be at the main gate in about ten minutes. The convenience was great for beating the crowds into the Park in the mornings. After exploring the Park, we were totally craving our return to this wonderful sanctuary. Tucked away in a beautiful rainforest, the lodge is absolutely gorgeous. Both our room (the Royal Orchid) and the common areas were decorated with care and an eye towards making every room seem welcoming and relaxing. Fresh chocolate chip cookies, snacks, bottled water, tea and coffee awaited us whenever we came into the lodge, and the breakfast each day was fabulous. My husband is a fussy eater, especially at breakfast. Not only did Sarah not get annoyed, but she kept offering him alternatives until she found something he liked. I suffer from chronic leg and back pain, but the lovely hot tub allowed me to soak much of the pain away at the end of each busy day, enabling me to do and see more in the Park than I might have otherwise. Sarah was wonderfully accommodating and such a pleasure to talk story with. She had lots of tips and suggestions to make our visit more memorable, and is a wealth of knowledge about the Park and the surrounding area. AND THE BED! Sheer heaven. We slept far better than we ever do at home. The mattress cradled us and supported us perfectly, and the linens were of excellent quality, soft and silky with just the right heft. Sarah, we are so very glad we made the choice to stay with you! The Park was great, but you and your sweet lodge totally made our vacation. Mahalo nui loa, until we meet again!

Yelp
My mom and I had a wonderful stay here! It's located in a lush tropical forest and just a few blocks from the Volcano National Park. The breakfasts are amazing & check in a breeze. We stayed in the Enchanted Forest Room which is a stand alone building. The bed is 5 star luxury. Nice porch for bird watching. Internet TV was a nice touch. Only thing I'd say could be improved was the fireplace. The gas flame was hardly visible but it did offer heat for cooler mornings and nights. Lori was our wonderful host who gave us excellent recommendations in the area for food and activities in our limited time there. The sunset volcano hike is a must do but it's slightly challenging. We did the one with electric bikes for getting to the lava. Check out the National park crater at night. A pass gives you access for multiple days so you can drive around or hike or go back at night to see exploding lava!

Yelp
Exceeded expectations! Breakfast was wonderful, lovely place, lots of nice touches. Sarah was helpful, knowledgeable about the local area, and made great recommendations.

Yelp
This is the place to stay if you want to be a quick drive from Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. I stayed in the Wild Ginger room on the ground floor and loved the automatic fireplace, the windows facing the forest, the towel heater, clean bathroom and the TV. Lori made everyone breakfast and she had such a diverse spread of papaya boat, all sorts of breads and muffins, quiche, teas and coffee. There's also flashlights you can borrow. The house has a beautiful peaceful atmosphere. I highly recommend the tom yum noodle soup at Thai Thai nearby for dinner.

Yelp
OMG! I cannot say enough of this couple hospitality. The room was nice and clean and had full bathroom. The bed had built in heating system and you experience the best sleep ever. The breakfast was awesome. We got yummy Hawaiian fruits and delicious waffle and almost everything that you need for a great breakfast. Wifi speed was great and they had a plug that had USB port. It was life saver for us since we had forgot our plugs. I highly recommend this place.

Yelp
Lava Pond Lodge was the perfect place for us to stay this January in Volcano. Regina is so gracious and pays attention to extra details that make you feel very welcomed. Besides being very close to the park entrance, our room at her lodge was the coziest retreat after a long day hiking around the lava fields. We had slippers, our own fireplace, heated mattress, toiletries, orchids on the towels... our own cd music player in room, coffee and tea, mini fridge w some complimentary drinks, etc. Regina had many guidebooks to share, maps, and also videos for entertainment. She made delicious continental breakfast both days that went beyond what's expected: breads, cheeses, yogurt, fruit, coffee, juices, eggs... we were all set for our day's adventures. Regina is very helpful and warm and has that laid back aloha spirit. We would stay again!

Yelp
My husband and I stayed at this place during our honeymoon shortly after the new owners took over and changed the name from Bamboo Orchid Cottage to Lava Pond Lodge. We stayed in the Royal Orchid suite and it was a wonderfully cozy and homey place to spend our honeymoon. The room and bathroom were clean, comfortable, and beautiful, including a fireplace in the bedroom and a Jacuzzi tub in the bathroom. There was also a helpful notebook of suggestions for activities in the room, with the activities grouped by approximately how far away on the island they were. We found this incredibly helpful in planning what we wanted to do on our trip. The owners were also very friendly and helpful. Plus, don't miss the delicious breakfast with an island twist! It was a wonderful way to start off each morning before heading out to explore Hawaii.

Yelp
We had a great 3 nights at this B&B on a recent trip to the most excellent Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. The Lodge is tucked into a rainforest (jungle?) lot with much in the way of exotic bird and frog sounds. Innkeeper, Lori clearly loves what she is doing, providing warm support and lovely breakfast treats for her guests. We stayed in Kipuka which had just enough room for us and our gear. Our small deck was a relaxing place to read and enjoy a glass of wine. The very nice bathroom was a plus. Would definitely stay there again!
