Sarah the owner was a wonderful host and a wealth of information about the area.|I'm from Seattle, Washington USA and went for episode 35 eruption of the Kilauea |volcano. She kept me informed by text of when the duel lava fountains started.|The Lava Pond Lodge B&B is one mile from the entrance to the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park which saves a lot of time getting to an eruption.|The lodge is tucked away in what I call a tropical jungle but is still very accessible.|Inside is fresh and a very comfortable environment. Keyless locks get you in and in to your rooms. Sarah offers a breakfast with a nice native fruit bowl along with standard |breakfast food items. Rooms are large with all the amenities. Rooms were quiet when I was there. There is parking on property.|If you like meeting new people in a friendly environment and getting away from the |big hotel vibe this works.|Larry

We chose Lava Pond Lodge for its location near Volcano National Park. Perfect for our short stay, visiting the park and sightseeing. Our host, Rhonda, is simply wonderful. We learned about the history of LPL, nearby businesses, what it's like living there - a warm visit that felt more like staying with friends or family. She prepared delicious breakfasts with fresh fruits, various breads and pastries, egg sandwiches or omelets. The coffee is from a local grower and roaster - Kaʻū Coffee Mill - worth a visit while there. |Great communication prior to our stay. Be sure to read the pre-arrival email! It contains a wealth of information that I should have paid more attention to (and wouldn't have had ask Rhonda about). December nights can be chilly but LPL provides heaters and heated bedding to make it comfortable. We stayed in the Royal Orchid room which has a gas fireplace. |If you can, arrive before sundown as it is very dark at night. Again, the pre-arrival email has great directions. Once you're a bit more familiar with the area, LPL is easy enough to find even at night.|Our only disappointment was that Kīlauea was quiet. We missed a nighttime show by a few days. We’ll have to try again.

Host was fantastic and very accommodating, including with my dietary needs. Rooms are clean, common spaces are welcoming and very usable. They provide very detailed info on hikes and other options. The proximity to HVNP is the cherry on top.

My wife and I stayed at Lava Pond Lodge for 2 nights while visiting Volcanoes National Park, and it was our first time at a bed and breakfast. Sarah, the host, was awesome. The day we arrived the volcano had just started erupting, and she gave us great tips on where to go for the best views.||Breakfast both mornings was excellent. The first day we had pastries, papaya with yogurt, and breakfast sandwiches. On our last morning she switched it up with omelets, which were amazing. She also gave us suggestions each day for things to see in the park, which really helped us make the most of our time.||The house itself is beautiful, and the beds were super comfortable. Overall, it was such a great experience, and we highly recommend Lava Pond Lodge if you’re staying near the park.

We rented the whole house for 3 nights, which includes four bedrooms, full kitchen, dining room, living room, and hot tub. Everything is great! Just a few minutes to the National Park. It’s so close we ended up going back to the house to eat lunch during the day. The hot tub is relaxing after a day out. Kitchen has lots of dishes and cooking equipment for making your own dinner.

We were a large group (7 people) and rented the whole house. The house is very spacious and well maintained. Kitchen is well equipped for making meals. Hot tub is nice after a long day out exploring the park. Overall a great place!

Lava Pond Lodge is a well kept, amazing bed and breakfast. Sarah is an attentive host who tends to everything with great detail. The home is very conveniently located, about 5 minutes from the entrance of the Volcano National Park, making it easy to get to the park before most tourists and giving us easy access to a night glow or in the event of an eruption. The bed, pillows, and linens are comfortable and the home is well stocked with extra towels, blankets, snacks and drinks. The breakfasts are especially amazing, starting with a papaya boat of pineapple, banana, and yogurt. There are ample types of breads and pastries, along with cereals, and protein with a variety each day to keep it from being monotonous. We especially enjoyed talking to Sarah each morning and getting information about what trails to experience at the park, nearby attractions and restaurant options. If we go back to the area, we would absolutely stay with Sarah again.

This was our first experience with a bed and breakfast. What a fabulous first. The breakfast was great. Various pastries and papaya, fresh coffee and a different entree every morning . Sarah would make suggestions based our plans for the day. She always, made excellent suggestions for both activities and restaurants. Sarah kept us informed about local things such as the Hulu exhibition by local schools. Great way to observe the culture of Hawaii. Also about the Cooper community centers Thursday sale. An opportunity to taste the local fare and purchase items that were crafted in Volcano Village. Lava Pond lodge is close to volcano national park and all the fantastic sights to see and explore and great restaurants . Outstanding vacation, and the erupting volcano just added an exciting touch. Loved the rain forest and the peacefulness of the area. Highly recommend the Lava Pond Lodge.

Yelp
We had the very best vacation ever staying with Sarah at Lava Pond Lodge! First off, the lodge is incredibly close to the entrance for Volcanoes National Park. We were able to leave the lodge and be at the main gate in about ten minutes. The convenience was great for beating the crowds into the Park in the mornings. After exploring the Park, we were totally craving our return to this wonderful sanctuary. Tucked away in a beautiful rainforest, the lodge is absolutely gorgeous. Both our room (the Royal Orchid) and the common areas were decorated with care and an eye towards making every room seem welcoming and relaxing. Fresh chocolate chip cookies, snacks, bottled water, tea and coffee awaited us whenever we came into the lodge, and the breakfast each day was fabulous. My husband is a fussy eater, especially at breakfast. Not only did Sarah not get annoyed, but she kept offering him alternatives until she found something he liked. I suffer from chronic leg and back pain, but the lovely hot tub allowed me to soak much of the pain away at the end of each busy day, enabling me to do and see more in the Park than I might have otherwise. Sarah was wonderfully accommodating and such a pleasure to talk story with. She had lots of tips and suggestions to make our visit more memorable, and is a wealth of knowledge about the Park and the surrounding area. AND THE BED! Sheer heaven. We slept far better than we ever do at home. The mattress cradled us and supported us perfectly, and the linens were of excellent quality, soft and silky with just the right heft. Sarah, we are so very glad we made the choice to stay with you! The Park was great, but you and your sweet lodge totally made our vacation. Mahalo nui loa, until we meet again!

Yelp
My mom and I had a wonderful stay here! It's located in a lush tropical forest and just a few blocks from the Volcano National Park. The breakfasts are amazing & check in a breeze. We stayed in the Enchanted Forest Room which is a stand alone building. The bed is 5 star luxury. Nice porch for bird watching. Internet TV was a nice touch. Only thing I'd say could be improved was the fireplace. The gas flame was hardly visible but it did offer heat for cooler mornings and nights. Lori was our wonderful host who gave us excellent recommendations in the area for food and activities in our limited time there. The sunset volcano hike is a must do but it's slightly challenging. We did the one with electric bikes for getting to the lava. Check out the National park crater at night. A pass gives you access for multiple days so you can drive around or hike or go back at night to see exploding lava!

Yelp
This is the place to stay if you want to be a quick drive from Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. I stayed in the Wild Ginger room on the ground floor and loved the automatic fireplace, the windows facing the forest, the towel heater, clean bathroom and the TV. Lori made everyone breakfast and she had such a diverse spread of papaya boat, all sorts of breads and muffins, quiche, teas and coffee. There's also flashlights you can borrow. The house has a beautiful peaceful atmosphere. I highly recommend the tom yum noodle soup at Thai Thai nearby for dinner.

Yelp
OMG! I cannot say enough of this couple hospitality. The room was nice and clean and had full bathroom. The bed had built in heating system and you experience the best sleep ever. The breakfast was awesome. We got yummy Hawaiian fruits and delicious waffle and almost everything that you need for a great breakfast. Wifi speed was great and they had a plug that had USB port. It was life saver for us since we had forgot our plugs. I highly recommend this place.

Yelp
Lava Pond Lodge was the perfect place for us to stay this January in Volcano. Regina is so gracious and pays attention to extra details that make you feel very welcomed. Besides being very close to the park entrance, our room at her lodge was the coziest retreat after a long day hiking around the lava fields. We had slippers, our own fireplace, heated mattress, toiletries, orchids on the towels... our own cd music player in room, coffee and tea, mini fridge w some complimentary drinks, etc. Regina had many guidebooks to share, maps, and also videos for entertainment. She made delicious continental breakfast both days that went beyond what's expected: breads, cheeses, yogurt, fruit, coffee, juices, eggs... we were all set for our day's adventures. Regina is very helpful and warm and has that laid back aloha spirit. We would stay again!

Yelp
My husband and I stayed at this place during our honeymoon shortly after the new owners took over and changed the name from Bamboo Orchid Cottage to Lava Pond Lodge. We stayed in the Royal Orchid suite and it was a wonderfully cozy and homey place to spend our honeymoon. The room and bathroom were clean, comfortable, and beautiful, including a fireplace in the bedroom and a Jacuzzi tub in the bathroom. There was also a helpful notebook of suggestions for activities in the room, with the activities grouped by approximately how far away on the island they were. We found this incredibly helpful in planning what we wanted to do on our trip. The owners were also very friendly and helpful. Plus, don't miss the delicious breakfast with an island twist! It was a wonderful way to start off each morning before heading out to explore Hawaii.

Yelp
We had a great 3 nights at this B&B on a recent trip to the most excellent Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. The Lodge is tucked into a rainforest (jungle?) lot with much in the way of exotic bird and frog sounds. Innkeeper, Lori clearly loves what she is doing, providing warm support and lovely breakfast treats for her guests. We stayed in Kipuka which had just enough room for us and our gear. Our small deck was a relaxing place to read and enjoy a glass of wine. The very nice bathroom was a plus. Would definitely stay there again!
