A Review of Iceland Parliament Hotel | Hotels Above Par

"About fifteen minutes away, the Lava Show surprised me: they pour actual molten lava onto ice, a theatrical and oddly moving spectacle that feels less touristy than it sounds." - Jordi Lippe-McGraw

This location is really easy to find. There’s also parking available in case you’re driving. We went for the Premium ticket when we visited which was great. With the premium ticket, you take an elevator to the second floor to a private bar where one cocktail or drink is included with your ticket. You get to chill up there until they open the private viewing area from the second floor. Once the show starts you have the option to stand to look over the protective glass. The show itself is so cool! Watching the lava flow and all the info from the geologist is so interesting! After the show the premium ticket holders get to hang back and watch an extra film and see their lava making machine. And you also get a piece of lava to take home as a souvenir. The gift shop also has a ton of cute stuff to take home.

The Lava Show in Reykjavík was a unique and unforgettable experience that allowed us to witness Iceland’s volcanic power up close. Watching real lava being melted and poured right in front of us was far more intense and exciting than I had imagined. The moment the bright, glowing lava began to flow, it felt as if we were peering into the heart of the Earth itself. The heat, the crackling sounds, and the shifting light created a level of realism that simply can’t be captured through videos or photos. It truly felt like experiencing the “heartbeat” of the planet. The staff provided clear and engaging explanations throughout the show, covering everything from lava temperatures and flow behavior to how volcanic activity works. Their commentary made the experience not only entertaining but also highly educational. It’s a show that both adults and children can enjoy and learn from. The entire program lasts about 45 minutes, but the time flew by because of how immersive and fascinating it was. Although the ticket price is on the higher side, I found the experience well worth it. Since it takes place indoors, it’s also a great activity for rainy or windy days. If you want to deepen your understanding of Iceland’s volcanic nature, this is an attraction I highly recommend.

The Reykjavík Lava Show is one of those rare experiences that feels both deeply educational and absolutely magical — the kind of attraction that leaves you glowing long after you step back outside into the Icelandic air. From the moment you enter, there’s a sense of cozy anticipation, like gathering around a modern-day hearth. The hosts greet you with warmth and genuine enthusiasm, and their passion for Iceland’s volcanic history is infectious. You don’t just learn about lava — you feel the stories of eruptions, landscapes reshaped by fire, and the incredible power that created this extraordinary island. And then the show begins, and everything shifts. Watching real, molten lava flow just a few feet away is nothing short of awe-inspiring. The brilliant orange glow, the crackling sound, the wave of heat — it’s like witnessing the heartbeat of the earth itself. It’s beautiful, dramatic, and strangely calming all at once. The way the hosts narrate the science and share personal tales makes the experience even more intimate and unforgettable. What sets the Reykjavík Lava Show apart is its perfect blend of wonder and warmth. It’s thrilling without being overwhelming, educational without ever feeling like a lecture, and accessible for anyone curious about Iceland’s fiery soul. Whether you’re a science lover, a nature enthusiast, or simply a traveler looking for something truly unique, the Reykjavík Lava Show is a must-see — a glowing highlight of any trip to Iceland.

Ian was absolutely brilliant and friendly I agree with some the experience might be short but it was incredible and educational for both adults and children! I really appreciate that although I bought a premium ticket they were accommodating my request to sit downstairs next to the action!

Lava show was good. Entertaining and informative. The premium pass was the best. A free drink and the ability to see (and play) with the equipment (suit) before the show, along with the ability to see the aftermath (behind the scenes) was the best part of this experience.

Wonderful show to learn about the history and science of Icelandic volcanoes and various stages of lava. For the premium tickets, visitors are provided a token to lounge upstairs with a cocktail in very comfortable seating before the show starts. Premium ticket seats are located upstairs with a spectacular view of the lava demonstration. No eyewear is required since you’re seated high up, but there’s a protective glass for extra safety. You’re allowed to take your drink to your seat and enjoy the show! The host was quite knowledgeable and answered many questions from the audience. It’s always exciting to see people that truly love their job! After the show, you can take a peek at the Ragnarok machine which allows them to process/reuse lava for other shows. Before you leave, you receive a beautiful piece of lava rock to display at home. I think mine will be a perfect paperweight :)

I got the premium ticket and was directed to the upstairs bar to enjoy a tasty drink that was included. I got the Magma Mule which was just Icelandic vodka and ginger beer; VERY tasty. One thing: I didn't realize that we could bring our drinks into the show. I drank half my cocktail relatively quickly, so I was STRUGGLING during the long intro video. Normally I would be into it and learning about volcanoes, but I was too lit to focus. LOL I had fun either way! When it was time for the lava to come out I was wide awake again. Our host, Ian, did a great job educating us (as was expected from a former teacher) and throwing in dad jokes. Very cool seeing lava in action and learning about its properties. If you're into geology, def check it out. We also got a piece of the volcanic glass after the show.

I came to this show with my partner and son just before Christmas. My son had been extremely excited to see the show and it didn't disappoint. The person presenting the show was amazing (I can't remember his name but remember that he is Dutch) and the show was a mix of both educational and entertaining. We got the premium experience and would recommend it. I hope to return to Iceland in the future and hope to see this show again.
