I was looking forward to trying this place since it's in the neighborhood and the interior is really cute, and supporting a locally owned business, but the experience wasn't amazing.
First, the food (at least the goat cheese/fig toast that I ordered) was nothing special and not even worth the $6.75 price. It was a piece of bread with a layer of goat cheese so thin you'd think goats must be going extinct, and some basic fig jam. Uninspired and something you can make at home.
The drinks were fine, but again, nothing special, and they felt a little overpriced.
They close at 4pm and promptly at 4pm one of the workers came over to our table and told us they were closed, implying we needed to leave. We'd been sitting there and talking for a while, so it was fine, but I'm glad we didn't get there at 3:45 expecting we could finish our coffees. Typically, when a food establishment closes at a certain time, it means they don't take new customers after that time. In this case, it means everyone needs to get the f out. We got up immediately and I actually had to unlock the door to get out. Also weird, and probably against fire codes. Again, turn the sign to closed and if someone walks in, let them know you're closed, but a little unnecessary to lock the six or so customers inside. It just seemed obvious, the staff was eager to clock out and get out.
So kind of disappointing. If you're looking for a cute bakery/coffee/tea place, there are better options in the area: Sweet Wheat, Tommy and Atticus, and Mychal's Cafe are a better overall experience in my opinion.
Lavendar and Honey is still relatively new, so I hope this is just growing pains. If I decide to go back, and it's better, I'll update my review, but that probably won't happen anytime soon.
