Excellent price for the 3-course menu. I ordered the onion soup - it is AMAZING! Then the duck that was delicious as well and the plate was very balanced. As for dessert I ordered the creme brulee, it was really good! The only thing that could go better was the service, it wasn't that bad, but we had to wait a longish time between the courses… and after a long time to ask to the bill. The restaurant was only half full and it was a long time… Despite that I would definitely go back! Really worth it.

I can’t gush enough about this marvellous gem in Kits. We stopped in last night, tempted by the 3-course prix fixe menu posted outside. Best dinner choice in memory, as everything about our visit was the definition of what we enjoy when eating out. The atmosphere is simple but cozy and inviting, with two tables right by the big roll-up door/window that we secretly coveted. A couple lucky enough to have one of those tables smiled as we arrived, and we chatted briefly – they were halfway through their own first visit to Lavidas, and their mid-meal enthusiasm confirmed we’d made a good choice. There was only one server for about a dozen tables, but she was the picture of competence and genuine hospitality, and we were never left wanting for attention or an honest smile. In the kitchen, the owner and chef was a whirling master of efficiency and culinary confidence. Between the two of them they made more magic than most restaurants do with a dozen staff. We chose the mango salad starter, which was an ideal palette cleanser – sweet and crisp with shredded carrots, cashews, spinach, and a generous measure of perfectly ripe mango slices. Next up, we couldn’t resist trying the braised beef, which so many restaurants just can’t quite get right. Happily, Lavidas is the exception, serving a generous portion of tender beef, creamy mashed potatoes, and perfectly al dente carrots boasting the optimal hint of crunch and flavour. This was the definition of comfort food, and thankfully not over salted as most kitchens are guilty of. With the bar raised so high, it wasn’t possible that the crème brulée would hold its own, yet it did. A light, mousse-like custard nestled under a delicate caramel shell, with hints of Earl Grey ensured a lingering, delightful finish to an altogether wonderful meal. My final note is on tipping. Tipping culture is out of hand in this city – whether it’s to-go pizza, a cookie, a burger, or any other casual meal, the prompt screen lately starts at 18%. Frankly, that’s absurd. Ironically, Lavidas, where the service and food are amazing, and where you’re actually sitting down for a meal (historically the only scenario where tipping was expected,) the tipping screen starts at 15%. It’s a small thing to some, but that modesty and lack of entitlement shows a lot of class, and we didn’t hesitate to choose a higher percentage for the well-deserved tip. I wish other establishments showed the same modesty. I have to work hard to think of anything I’d want done differently, and the only thing that comes to mind is freshly-ground pepper. To be clear, the meal didn’t need it, but I’ve always loved the burst of aroma when it’s offered at the table, and that unique bite that only fresh pepper can add to beef. Again, a small thing that didn’t detract from our meal. As we left, we both agreed – we’ll be regulars to Lavidas. Keep in mind – they’re only open from 5pm to 8:30pm, but it’s worth scheduling your dinner to accommodate.

Had a great experience at Lavidas, it is really a hidden gem. The portions were huge and food was very delicious. I don’t know any where else in the city where you can get French bistro course menu for $35! Our waitress Adriana was so sweet and attentive. The service can be a bit slower due to only have 1 chef and 1 front of house, but it’s worth the wait and makes the pace of the dining to be very enjoyable since you are not rushed and can enjoy a chat. I recommend booking a reservation to secure your table, since they can’t accommodate many tables and you may get turned away so they can provide better service to the dine in customers. Highly recommend and will be back :)

Such a beautiful three course meal at a very reasonable 35$. Was absolutely blown away by the French onion soup starter. We had the braised beef and duck confit mains which were both done so well. You can tell the food is made with great care. Our server Adriana was attentive and very sweet. So pleased with our experience, can’t wait to come back.

Food, AMAZING. Service, very slow. Came here during the Khatsahlano street festival which was PACKED outside. After we got seated it took awhile to get things like waters, menus, etc. After a short time we noticed it was because there was only 1 person working the front. Seating people, taking orders, running plates, all just 1 lady. We ordered the BC clams and chorizo, as well as from the prix fixe menu. We got the scallops and prawn ceviche, duck confit, and the creme brulee. Each dish was outstanding both in presentation, depth of flavors, and balance. I really cant say which one was my favorite, each one was absolutely stunning. If I were to rate this place on food alone it would be 5-stars. In total it took over 2 hours to complete our meal though. The food was so good it almost made the wait completely worth it. However rating for the overall experience is 4-star. If they hired another person for front and back of house, this place would be elite.

Update: finally tried the duck confit and it was marvellous! Stayed with the ceviche and berry crumble though as I can’t get enough of them. My friend had the beef cheeks and it was fantastic as well. I can never understand why this restaurant isn’t packed. Another delicious meal at my new favourite neighbourhood bistro. Excellent choices in the prix fixe menu at an unbeatable $35 price. The seafood ceviche with tortilla chips is super tasty, raspberry crumble a la mode hits the spot, and the pasta with mussels, clams, and smoke salmon is so big, it’s the perfect next day lunch. I really want to try the duck but the lure of next-day lunch pulls me back to the pasta, lol. They’re open Wednesday-Sunday, apparently so the staff can have work/life balance which is awesome.

Dinner tonight at Lavidas was perfect. Small, quaint atmosphere with incredible service. Jordan, our server was kind, attentive and charismatic. All of our food came out hot and was delicious. Wednesday pre set menu with 1/2 price bottles of wine, can’t go wrong. I’ll definetly be returning.

This must be the best kept secret in Vancouver! I really don't think you can get a better deal! They have a $35 3 Course meal that is absolutely worth every penny & more! Not sure how they do it in this economy, but they do & let me tell you, they do it so very well! We enjoyed the Mango Salad, Scallop & Prawn Ceviche, Canard Confit, Boeuf Braised et Pomme de Terre, Earl Grey & Burnt Honey Creme Brulee & Raspberry Crumble a la mode. Everything was absolutely wonderful! My duck was the best duck I have ever had! It was fall off the bone, melt in your mouth crazy good. The beef was well seasoned & fork tender. If I had one critique, it would be the potatoes. I'm not a potato person & there was alot of it, but if you like potatoes then you'll be good. The cocktails & the decafe coffee were also delicious. This is a relatively new restaurant, being open for less than year, so show them some love & visit soon! We want to make sure they stick around for while! @inspiringfoodie

Yelp
This cozy little place offers a wide-ranging menu and a short but well-curated wine list. It's reasonably priced, like a small plate concept, but everything we tried was a generous serving, more of an entree size. We particularly liked the vegetarian chili, mussels in curry sauce, and the dumplings. The ceviche was also interesting, more about the corn than the fish, and nicely spiced. Caesar salad was the only miss; please stop messing with this classic dish and stick with romaine and croutons! Service seemed a bit overwhelmed on a busy Saturday night, but the kitchen had no trouble keeping up.

Yelp
This is the best deal you can get in town with $38 for 3 courses Sunday to Wednesday. French fusion with classic French onion soup generous with cheese, or prawns/scallop ceviche or refreshing green mango salad as starters. Main courses are difficult to choose as they are all good: crispy duck confit with scalloped potatoes, seafood linguine loaded with mussels and clams, braised beef brisket or vegetarian pasta dish. Desserts are house made Earl Grey crème brûlée or seasonal raspberries crumble. Portion is generous and service is attentive and friendly

Yelp
Had a great dinner there. Service was also very nice and attentive. Portion was good size even the appetizers. Mango salad was fresh tasting and balanced. The scallop and prawn ceviche on tortilla chips was tasty but not true Latin style ceviches as the seafood is actually cooked and not lime juice cooked but this is not a Latin food restaurant so we'll accept as French/fusion style. lol. The beef cheeks were tender and very flavourful. Duck confit was moist and not salty. It doesn't have any sauce but no need. It is served with cranberry sauce and scalloped potatoes. For dessert, we had Earl Grey cream brûlée. It has a nice Earl grey fragrance. The other dessert was raspberry crumble a la mode. Both good and not too sweet. We'll definitely come back and try their other dishes

Yelp
This is a reincarnation of La Cigale now reopened as Lavidas. We had a lovely evening at Lavidas. The restaurant is very warm and cozy. The tables are set up like they were when it was La Cigale. We had a great window seat and enjoyed people watching while we were having dinner. We would try to find parking elsewhere next time as meter parking on 4th is very expensive at $6.00 per hour. The service was good considering that there were only 2 people working. One was the cook and the other was Adriana our server (I hope I got the name right). It was very busy as there were 7 tables occupied when we were there. They have a 3 course tasting menu that is terrific value at $35.00 There is a choice of 3 appetizers, 4 entrees, and 2 desserts. For appetizers my husband had the mango salad with cashews and carrot vinaigrette and I had baked onion soup. The onion soup was delicious. The cheese was nicely crusted on top and the broth was delicious. My husband's salad could have been very good but unfortunately the mangoes were not ripe so there wasn't much mango taste to the salad. For entrees my husband had the duck confit and I had the braised beef cheeks. My beef cheeks were very good. They were so tender and the sauce was great on the mashed potatoes that were on the bottom. My husband said his duck was very tender but he was disappointed that the skin wasn't very crisp. For dessert we both had raspberry crumble with ice cream. This was outstanding. It came out nice and hot and the crumble was really crisp. Perfect with the ice cream. They have a decent selection of wine and we enjoyed a bottle of Malbec. If you BYOB corkage fee is $30.00. On Wednesdays they have 1/2 price on bottles of wine and no corkage fee. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening at Lavidas and would highly recommend it for a good reasonable evening with good food.
