It was late afternoon when we stopped into this small cozy restaurant for dinner. This restaurant isn’t trying to be pretentious, that’s because it’s authentic, kind of raw yet put together. The chef or owner or whoever he was was talking with some other worker people discussing something and I didn’t mind it because I felt part of it even though I wasn’t, nor did I need to be. The food was top notch, service was perfect. The waiters work very hard at balancing their serving trays down 2 flights of narrow stairs all with a great attitude. I will be back.

We ate here our last night in PV. We were confused at first as the photos on the website didn't all match the location but it was the right place. The second floor was not open, we were bummed about this. The lovely manager stated there were just not enough tourist to open both floors. The servers were more than eager to serve us and worked really hard to give a us a good evening out. My husband's meal was wonderful, a Mediterranean dish of lamb. My shrimp, rice and veggies was good but not great. I think an error was made and water was added to the dish for some reason, to make it a semi soup. It would have been good but all the flavor was watered down. My white wine was served warm. Yuk! My husbands drink of sangria was ok. I gave them a 4 star because they were really trying and wanted to know what we thought. I gave them this feed back and feel they will make improvements. Give them a try but state a concern during the meal. I think they would have corrected my meal if I let them know in advance.

This is a gem!!! We can for breakfast and omg what a fantastic treat. The service was excellent. We were greeted and sat so sweetly. We sat in the window seat and ordered coffee. I never really drink black coffee but OMG it was really good. We ordered the chilaquiles and rancheritos. You will not be disappointed. Don’t pass this spot up especially if you want amazingly flavorful authentic Mexican breakfast. 10 out of 10 I would recommend again and again

Decided to try this out for Dinner based on the many positive reviews on google. We were disappointed because 1. We could not eat on the second floor which has the views; 2. We were talked into an additional drink that my wife couldn’t have due to an allergy; 3. Most of the Raicilla that I ordered was spilled on the tablecloth; 4. The menu online was not the same menu they had available, the server then proceeded to tell us our entire table had to order from one menu or the other and 5. (They fixed this right away) they missed an ingredient in the guacamole.

We tried this place because of restaurant week and I'm glad we did. This is a laid back atmosphere with a very attentive staff. Our waiter, Cruz, made some suggestions and made sure everything was to our liking. The chef checked with everyone dining. The shrimp and grits were sooo good, and the mummy shrimp was awesome. The sea bass was thoroughly enjoyed by my wife. This little hidden jewel will be revisited.

The eggs were great. Pancakes were good but I think the syrup had some type of orange in it. Not a fan but the Pancakes themselves were good. Service was fast and the owner is very nice. You need to bring cash. It's cash only.

Returning to this restaurant after some time, I was pleasantly surprised by the positive changes. The addition of tabletop games was a fantastic idea—I enjoyed playing dominoes while waiting for my breakfast with a morning coffee.

Google
Great atmosphere and service. I had a whole fried fish, wine and a tequila flambe dish. The fish was good but I would have preferred broiled. I decided to try a form of preparation I had not had before. I did eat every bit of it.

Yelp
We stumbled upon this place while walking around and decided to have dinner there. It was so delicious! Best food we've had on this trip so far.

Yelp
The restaurant is adorable, on a side street with saloon doors. They were playing old country classics (Dolly Parton, please!). We stopped by ~2PM on a Sunday, and they were empty but that worked to our advantage. The co-owner spoke excellent English (having lived in the US for many years) and was so kind and generous with her time to talk to us. The mezcalitas were delicious and made from scratch with a delicious tajin rim and they did not skimp on alcohol. We ordered fresh pico and guacamole made at the table to our liking. Tortilla chips were made fresh. Husband was able to connect to their wi-fi to watch his NFL team win their game, to which the owner was excited for him. Prices were reasonable-- very affordable for having everything made to order! Highly recommended spot!

Yelp
Came in for an early lunch. Restaurant was empty and service was slow but friendly. They didn't have a full menu, just some items written on a chalkboard. The food was less than impressive, here's what we had. Chicken burrito- few pieces of chicken with a bunch of cheese and rice. Grease was dripping from the bottom and I couldn't finish my food because it just wasn't very good. The salad was the best part of the plate. 3 of 5 stars. Shrimp cocktail- The flavor of the cocktail was good but the shrimp wasn't fully cleaned. Poop on the base of your shrimp? Nope. 2 of 5 stars. Service- slow but friendly. 3 of 5 stars. This place gets good reviews for drinks but the food is sub par. I won't be back.

Yelp
It's been 6 years since our last visit to PV. Layla's is always on our list of dinner spots to hit. The food tonight was as good as ever and the service was terrific. Isabella and Fernando took great care of us. Highly recommend if you visit PV!

Yelp
We did our research and chose this place for our last night in town this year. They did not disappoint. Being out last night, we tried a couple of their cocktails. The wife went for a more traditional margarita, I went for the house special mezcal libation. Both were very tasty. We followed that with a Casa Fundido with a local variant of chorizo with some of the lightest house made flour tortillas. They brought out their version of a palete cleanser, cold pineapple and other juices with an optional splash of tequila, light and tasty. We went for the Arab cuisine entree which was a bit random for a Mexican specialty restaurant however really tasty. The lamb and chicken skewers with tahini, hummus and tabbouleh salad turns out to be a great pairing. The house special dessert was incredible. Staff was very helpful, service was quick and we felt like it lived up to the hope we had for our last night in town.

Yelp
Just wow! If you are in Puerto Vallarta and want something a little different and wonderful this place is an epic treat! The owner is the daughter of the namesake of the place so it's got that family touch. The chef is out of this world amazing. Uses local and ingredients and has exceptional flavors on the limited but constantly changing menu. Steak, seafood, and other options are on offer - something for every palate and appetite. It's on the North end of the Malicon - but just a block off twords the ocean - and it's "not" the usual faire on that end of the "cruise" Malicon which has typical tourist trap places and the usual rubbish. If you want to have some local epic flavors - and do not want to break the wallet - this is a gem of a find and I urge you to read the other reviews and the RUN there for an exceptional lunch or dinner (they also have breakfast on offer!) Thanks to the brilliant owner, chef, and wait staff for an exceptional experience !

Yelp
We came here because we saw all the positive reviews. We were unfortunately disappointed. We couldn't sit upstairs for the views; for whatever reason the menu online and the menu at the establishment were different. Our waiter claimed our entire table needed to select one menu or the other. (NEWSFLASH: We're not at French Laundry) They talked us into a drink that my wife ultimately couldn't drink. Most of my Raicilla was spilled onto the tablecloth. And the guy making the guacamole forgot the ingredient that made the thing "ancient". Though, that was the one thing they quickly remedied.

Ellis H.

Yelp
This establishment has consistently provided my best eating experiences ever. Yes the food is amazing, but the service is such quality. I won't even bother trying to recall the last time I've felt like part of a the community while dining. To be fair, I've only been twice, but I feel like a regular! Bespoke cocktails, meals, and service. Every peso well spent. A super fun and exciting time!! The ribs! The shrimp! The chicken!!

Lori R.

Yelp
Enjoyed a FABULOUS meal at Laylas's last night. They just reopened after taking a summer break. Our server Isabella recommended thier sisignature pork shank and it did not disappoint! Fall apart tender with a yummy sauce that wasn't overly sweet like bbq sauce in the US. Chef Rodrigo outdid himself with fresh sea bass in an amazing cream sauce. It was heavenly! The prices were super reasonable too. Highly recommend 10 stars

Dazziyah M.

Yelp
This place was very nice! The ambiance was very beautiful as well. -unfortunately I didn't get to take a picture of my food except for my cilantro rice. -my boyfriend ordered the ribs and pork shank and thought the food was very tender, but bland. I on the other hand thought my food was too salty for me. I ordered the archerera (definitely spelled it wrong) steak. That was also a bit too salty for me, along with the oysters. But the place definitely had potential! The owner was so sweet and nice to our family!

Brian M.

Yelp
Nice place, very pleasant service - seems to be a small family working together. Say upstairs on the balcony - ordered a peperoni pizza - it was ok. The mango colada was delicious, and the place had a great playlist.

A A.

Yelp
Great place just off the strip. Fantastic food. I had the Seafood Molcajete and the sauce was unreal. Tasty margaritas and friendly service.

Nell B.

Yelp
This was the first stop on the walking Vallarta Eats Food Tour. They were so sweet and inviting, and the restaurant was beautiful! We were seated upstairs and had an incredible view of both the mountains and the clean, fun fish tank! We enjoyed a fresh, spicy margarita with habanero peppers muddled into it. Next was a fried oyster appetizer - crispy, fresh, and a great little sauce with it. Next was a shrimp dish that was cooked perfectly, huge shrimp, and perfectly cooked peppers. Next dish was my favorite - sliced chicken with poached peppers and potatoes in a vinegary sauce that perfectly complemented the dish. I would 100% recommend checking this place out!

Yelp
We loved this place so much that we went back twice during our weeklong vacation in PV. We enjoyed a gorgeous rooftop view, attentive, friendly service, and one night there was even live music! They also gave us bread and oil along with other little treats throughout the meal. Along with a few margaritas ranging from cucumber to passion fruit, I got the adobo pork shank and my boyfriend got the fajitas. Both plates were SO good our tastebuds were almost overwhelmed. One thing to know is if you want the rooftop view, there's a lot of stairs to climb. Not at all an issue for us, but others may need to opt for a table downstairs.

Kevin S.

Yelp
Fantastic food, service, and ambiance. Our waiter could not have been more accommodating trying to find us a table after my mother was hilariously too short to eat at the first one. He also was not kidding when he said he made the best margarita in town. The owner / manager was also incredibly kind and welcoming. All of the food was fantastic - very clearly freshly prepared with care and great ingredients. We had a great meal and a great time and will be back if we are ever in PV again. 5 stars!

Katie T.

Yelp
TLDR; We got basically robbed by the wait staff here - good lesson learned the first night of our trip. We spent 7 more days in PV and had amazing, kind, respectful service everywhere else (let alone much better food) - this place is terrible - don't go!!! Service 1/5 They took 20 minutes to get us a menu even though there was a QR code on the table. They came back with a hand written one (which is why I'm guessing took so long) with a limited menu. After dinner we looked at the online menu and he totally hand wrote a menu with higher prices. Drinks took 20 mins to come out (there was only one other couple there), food took about 45 minutes. Our waiter waited to tell us their card reader doesn't always work and they prefer cash. We asked to try using the card reader since we hadn't pulled out that many pesos, then the waiter brought out the card reader, he was acting really weird making tons of jokes, telling us one of us can just leave and go to an ATM (which we weren't interested) and he was totally faking it not working since he wasn't shoving the card in fully. He told us the bill came out to $175 USD when it was only $145, so we tipped off an extra $30 USD. When we said we thought we could pay with Pesos, we didn't have a full 20% tip as he had pre calculated for us, and then MAGICALLY the credit card reader worked when he tapped the card instead of using chip reader. He charged the meal amount and demanded the tip in pesos. Food was okay which but we left feeling robbed and taken advantage of. They also charged us twice so we're actively disputing this ($300+ dinner for steak and chicken, 4 margs a beer.)

Yelp
We went here for our last night's dinner in Puerto Vallarta. It's an upscale experience with phenomenal service and excellent food. We started with the Caesar salad that comes with a hot sauce that we did not try but the wife put some on bread and said it was fire. For entrees, I had the sea bass and enjoyed it a lot. It was cooked perfectly, very moist and flavorful. The cream sauce is to die for. The wife had the shrimp with mole sauce and loved the fresh flavor of the shrimp; the mole was a perfect pairing. For dessert the wife had the lemon in white chocolate and loved it too. Overall, it was a first class experience and a perfect way to end a wonderful vacation.

Wayne S.

Yelp
We have eaten at Layla's for breakfast both last year and this year. We love sitting outside, on a quiet street, just off the Main Street. The breakfasts are very well prepared. Service is leisurely. We also tried Layla's for dinner but is didn't have the same delicious flavors as the breakfasts. There was an excellent guitar player the night we had dinner.

Jim J.

Yelp
Excellent choice for lunch within walking distance to our hotel. We had Los Machines, two poached eggs in an Uber-delicious spicy Ranchera Sauce with cheese. My wife had the Chilaquiles Verdes with eggs which was bursting with flavor. Great authentic Mexican fare with good hospitality. Highly recommend.

Uri P.

Yelp
Some of the best shrimp tacos I've ever had, and a shrimp cocktail that was perfectly fresh and delicious. My wife had what were essentially huevos rancheros, although I don't know what they were called on the menu. Very nice little spot, reasonable prices, and the staff were attentive and very helpful.

Tracy W.

Yelp
Super cute place. Staff is wonderful! Order the pork shank!!! DELICIOUS!!! Well worth a visit (or two or three)!!!

Leya O.

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic experience, both with the divine food, and the fabulous server Fernando. We will definitely be back while we continue our stay.

Misty B.

Yelp
The food was bland and the kebabs were ground chicken and lamb, which was not indicated on the menu. They have 3 wifi networks and don't share the password with customers. They don't have their finances worked out so they only take cash in the morning so they can buy the ingredients for later in the day, yet they have a sign that says they accept credit cards on the front door. There is a tiny sign inside (if you even go inside) that says cash only. The waitress was nice enough, but there is no reason to ever waste your time coming here with all of the other nearby options. You're far better off even with the street tacos.

Gumba C.

Yelp
Food was as good as last year. Cadillac Margaritas not as good. Quaint location and cozy dining. Large table available for 12-14 people

Bryant M.

Yelp
Glad we stopped here to eat dinner. Service was great the right mix of checking on us but not to much and not to little. The food was great. Really well seasoned, tender, cooked well, and right portion. Check this restaurant out if your looking for something to eat and cannot decide where to go.

Josh D.

Yelp
This is one of our favorite breakfast places for chilaquiles. Talented chef, family-owned, cute (but very limited) outdoor seating. Love it.

Madelyn R.

Yelp
We came here for the mole, only to discover it was just a morning thing, but they offered make us some anyways. Great service! We were seated right away and they were very attentive. Would recommend the ribs and enchiladas. The live music was a perfect addition. Will be back as soon as we can!

Gigi P.

Yelp
We went for our seventh anniversary tonight. What a wonderful dinner and great service. Everyone paid us special attention for n our anniversary. Cruz our waiter was very sweet. This isn't our first time here and it won't be our last. Seek out this hidden gem!!!

sarah b.

Yelp
Just go here. You won't regret it. They put incredible care into both the food quality and the service. So many options on the menu sounded excellent (pork adobo, shrimp with mole), but after much deliberation... We had: - fried oyster appetizer (on the house) - plantain empanadas with spicy aioli - crusted sea bass in a light cream sauce - arrachera (flank steak) in chili sauce We enjoyed all of this deliciousness on a rooftop terrace with a perfect view of the church and all the houses going up the hill. It was basically a perfect night.

Lisa M.

Yelp
Our first dinner out in PV and it was truly wonderful. Very attentive and friendly service, excellent cocktails and food and a beautiful guitar player/singer. A magical night and we plan to go back before we head home!!

Karen H.

Yelp
Found this gem on yelp and it did not disappoint. I had the chili Quiles Roja and it was amazing. The service was really good to

Camille B.

Yelp
Excellent little place. It's unassuming in appearance but delightful to visit. I enjoyed the huevoa rancheros. My husband got shrimp and said it was the best shrimp he's ever had. He couldn't stop talking about eating there again because he loved it so much, and he's very particular about his shrimp. With tons of choices in the area, this is one absolutely worth checking out.

Lisa V.

Yelp
Yelp shows that this place has good food and states that they accept credit cards so we took an Uber down and they're currently cash only.

Victor R.

Yelp
Love the place good food The owner is so pleasant and nice to talk to. Been there 3 times this week.

Chad A.

Yelp
Guacamole was amazing! Our waitress was super nice and our main dish was superb! The hot sauce they provide is absolute fire! Highly recommend!

Donna K.

Yelp
Fresh, authentic, wonderfully delicious food. The Chef/Owner takes pride and care when preparing this food. The Sea Bass, Queso Fundido are my favorite! This is a must do for foid in Puerto Vallarta. A great dining experience.

Seth F.

Yelp
Great food, decent prices, and the staff were friendly and attentive. I had the Chilaquiles and they were delicious.

Amber D.

Yelp
Amazing food! I've been here many times, not just to Layla's but to PV and Layla's is a must! They have breakfast, lunch and dinner! Service is 5 star and I can't say enough about the ambiance and service! Love this restaurant! Love these people! Absolutely can't go wrong with anything you order on the menu! I've been here multiple times! I always tell them to bring me whatever they think I'd like, always different and it never disappoints! If you don't visit while in PV, major opportunity missed! I've eaten at many places in Zona Romantica and nothing compares! Ask for Marco!! He is the man! And Gustavo! His drinks will make you happy with perfect balance of booze and flavor.

Michael M.

Yelp
I was very disappointed in the food. I had Cilantro Shrimp, and the shell was still on shrimp. The other person had a shrimp dish and also had the same complaint. The service, on the other hand, was impeccable.

Rick B.

Yelp
I've been looking at this place on Yelp for a couple of days. And finally made it down for dinner. We got a great table upstairs with our dog, Jasper, the service and food was excellent. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone and I will go back again for sure.

J Warren R.

Yelp
Friends recommended Laylas and it was a worthwhile visit. After making our way up to the 4th rooftop floor, our group of 11 was seated. Immediately the owner appeared and told us that he was available and if we needed anything or something wasn't right, let him know. I always like to see active management. We had a lovely dinner - People really enjoyed the Flintstones sized braised Pork shank and the fish and sausage stew. There is something on Layla's menu that will appeal. Service was attentive and there whenever we needed it. Drinks, especially the Margaritas were well made. At the end of our meal, they sent a complementary drink. This is not a fancy place - it is however, a fun place to have a good meal, look out over the rooftop and spend time with friends. Clean bathrooms.

Alicia A.

Yelp
We called in our group reservation. Upon arrival we were seated and it took 1.5 hours to get the first round of drinks and a few appetizers. Needless to say they were understaffed & never let us know. Had we been warned we would've been more empathetic and quite honestly gone else where. It was a special occasion dinner that was ruined by their lack of transparency.

Savannah B.

Yelp
Good quality, unique menu items and amazing service. Get the table-made guacamole!! Mmmmm!!! So fun! They make it at your table with many ingredients and homemade, hot tortilla chips. The pasta is flavorful and one of the best I've had in MX or CA! The Hibiscus Mole Shrimp was tasteful and fun to try. The fried ice cream. Wow. Good price for amazing LIVE MUSIC on the 4th floor and delicious dinner w/ warm service. Free tequila tasting, too! A must for quality and setting and convenience.

Cheryl B.

Yelp
This is the little place that can. A wonderful upscale meal at a reasonable price with attentive service. What I liked the most is that it is a smallish place just off the Main Street so it was peaceful. I had a lovely salad with shrimp enchiladas and my dining companion had the asparagus appetizer and soup ( I can't remember the name) The food was very good but a bit salty for our taste. If I came back I would definitely come back because it was that good.

Moony L.

Yelp
It was okay, it was SUPER EXPENSIVE!! and food was mediocre. I went with family and had the falafel and it was very disappointing. Would not go again. Although they did have a lovely guitar player.

Alan W.

Yelp
Layla's is completely worth trying. Got on Yelp tonight to find a new place downtown. Convinced my picky eating family to give it a try. Everyone absolutely loved it! Make sure to sit on the top floor outside. Great views and a cool breeze. You'll earn the right to have dessert, because the three flights of stairs is tiring, but so worth it. We had Cruz as our server. Excellent service, and he made great recommendations. We ordered Shrimp and Grits and salad for apps. Then the 4 of us ordered Pork Shank, Shrimp with Hibiscus Mole and Mummy Shrimp. Excellent choices! All around... can't wait to go back. The music they play is from the Woodstock era. Would have preferred something a little more contemporary. Besides that... Layla's is worth its Yelp ratings!

Joe B.

Yelp
Layla's get 5 stars in every category. Great menu, presentation and ambiance. Service was excellent. Attentive but not overbearing. All important in a complete experience but meaningless if the food quality wasn't up to par. And it was and then some. I ordered the special Filet and my GF ordered the Sea Bass. We like to share and the two dishes complimented each other perfectly. Simply put they were delicious. I simply can't recommend Layla's highly enough.

Andrea C.

Yelp
We stopped here for dinner. The he decor and seating had 4 levels!. This was very good we had the pasta but a variety on menu. They offered us to eat off lunch or dinner menu. The server was very attentive and we look forward to going back! Good food!

Mark T.

Yelp
We did not have reservations but they worked us in. Service was a little slow but very good considering the crowd. I ordered the Pork shank with grilled vegetables and risotto. I would highly recommend this dish. Very tender. I would order it again.
