Hey fellow yelpers, I stopped by this new Pakistani restaurant yesterday after work for their soft opening and was treated to a delightful meal of curry lamb with basmati rice, samosas with a delicious green dipping sauce (I think its called mint cilantro chutney), nan bread, a tasty appetizer of two different types of grilled chicken served with the same delicious green dipping sauce and for dessert, rice pudding (I think they call it Kheer) topped with a drizzle of saffron sauce as well as lemonade drinks that were created using homemade syrups! It was a wonderful feast for the senses! And the portions were more than enough for me to have leftovers the next day! I can't wait to try everything else on the menu!
Upon entering, you immediately notice the eclectic decor, exposed ductwork and relaxed atmosphere with house music softly playing in the background. Customers were greeted by plenty of friendly staff including the owner and his family who made every customer feel as if we were being invited into their home. From the mosaic tiled entrance (that is also handicap accessible for those who use wheelchairs) to the rustic wood floor to the wood top bar to the exposed brick walls to the rattan pendant lights to the big gold leaf mirror to the interesting chandelier above the foyer of what looks like a child's bed spring adorned with colored lights, you immediately feel as if you're inside a restaurant in old world Pakistan but with a modern twist, The bartender was just as nice and created some delicious lemonade drinks using alcohol alternatives. He was also very knowledgeable about the menu and he mentioned that he used to work at Sakina Grill on K St. NW and I said that sounds familiar...then I remembered that was the restaurant that went viral a few years ago for giving free food to the homeless and was about to close because of the pandemic when people from the community, including myself, and around the world came together and donated enough money to their GoFundMe to keep them open! Sakina Grill has since been sold but fast forward a few years later and the owner has now opened a wonderfully new addition to the H Street corridor called Lazizi where you don't even hear the street noise from inside the restaurant so it feels like an escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.
I highly recommend this family owned Pakistani restaurant and can't wait for the grand opening!!
