We had an amazing trip with Lazy Bear Lodge from August 3–9. It truly was the trip of a lifetime. We saw multiple polar bears and plenty of belugas, and every part of the experience was beyond what I imagined. Our accommodations in Winnipeg at their partner hotels were excellent. We decided to spend an extra night at the beginning of the trip to explore the city, which I would highly recommend. The lodge in Churchill was beautiful and cozy. Some reviews say the rooms are small, but as someone who has stayed in many lodges, it was exactly what I expected. The food was outstanding, especially considering how remote Churchill is. Each day there was a lunch, dinner, and dessert special, and the breakfast buffet was different every morning. The variety was far more than I anticipated, and the restaurant staff were always friendly and welcoming. I went on this trip with my 83-year-old grandmother, and she loved it. She can be quite particular, and the staff went above and beyond to accommodate her needs, whether it was providing a smaller portion at meals or offering an extra hand on more physical tours. She’s quite mobile for her age, but I also noticed guests with less mobility enjoying themselves just as much, thanks to how well everything was run. It’s worth noting that Churchill can only be accessed by plane, train, or boat, and this adds to the charm. If you’re expecting a five-star luxury city hotel, you might be disappointed, but if you’re expecting the best Churchill has to offer, you will be thrilled. We did have wildfire smoke during our visit, which is just a reality of Canada in August, but it didn’t take away from the experience. The tours were wonderful, and we also had time to explore the town. The Itsanitaq Museum was a highlight. The staff truly made this trip special. From Sue in Winnipeg, who helped us arrange everything, to the front desk and restaurant teams, to our wonderful guides: Tony, Mirko, and Kai. Tony, our lead guide, was engaging and full of knowledge, especially for bird lovers. Mirko was great behind the wheel of the van and Arctic Crawler, and even helped guests get incredible polar bear photos through the telescope. Kai was the captain for both my zodiac tours and led the aquagliding experience, which was absolutely unforgettable. I don't think our groups stopped laughing on either of those boat rides. Aquagliding with the belugas is something I will remember forever. Watching them underwater was magical. I felt like we had plenty of time for the experience, and while I could have stayed in the water all day, it felt worth every moment. I can’t say enough good things about Lazy Bear Lodge. This was a truly special trip, and I hope I get the chance to return one day. Thank you to everyone who made it so memorable.

We joined lazy Bear for their summer bears and belugas program, spending 4 nights in Churchill MB in search of wildlife. While conditions in the lodge were a bit rustic, with sometimes elusive hot water if everyone was on the same schedule, we nonetheless felt well cared for by the SUPERB staff. (Special shout outs to servers Ben, Hunter and Elysia as well as ACE guide and all around good guy Deacon, and Mariia at the front desk; plus the fantastic kitchen staff that kept us all well fed). We had a wonderful time on excursions to view polar bears and beluga whales with the propriety AquaGlide with Belugas being the highlight. The program includes a variety of activities but there was still time to explore the quaint town of Churchill. Expect small rustic rooms in the lodge with very limited space to spread out or even unpack. Yet despite these small annoyances, this truly is a must do activity.

12 polar bears, Northern Lights and tons of belugas what more can you say. Guides were informative and entertaining. Well put together...expect adventure...and the food was very good considering the remoteness. One of the best trips we've had

Great trip. We went up to see the aurora borealis, as well as the polar bears, and the trip exceeded all our expectations. The accommodations and food were significantly better than we had anticipated. I went with my husband, children and grandchildren, all of whom absolutely loved the adventure. We went at the end of September, which turned out to be the perfect time of year. The beluga whales hadn’t yet left, the polar bears were out and about, and despite the forecast, we had two nights where we saw the aurora borealis. People need to understand that they will not be seeing polar bears up close. There are rules about how close the tour companies are allowed to come to the bears. Most bears stay away from humans. We learned more about culture, geography, history, the environment, astronomy, and more.

We had a fantastic Northern Lights trip to Churchill and Winnipeg. Lazy Bear took care of all arrangements, from our perfectly located lodgings in Winnipeg pre- and post-trip (we added a day in Winnipeg - we recommend it!) as well as flights to and from Churchill and everything in between. We had spectacular Northern Lights viewing two of our three nights there. Other tour highlights included the helicopter trip (spotting belugas and polar bears) and the Wapusk Adventures dog sledding experience. The Dene presentation was also very moving and worthwhile. Toby was a terrific guide and we enjoyed touring Churchill with him (loved the murals). Food at the lodge was excellent and plentiful, locally sourced where possible and the staff were very friendly. My only suggestion would be to add more storage/shelving space to the rooms.

I can't say enough about this friendly, rustic, incredible adventure package. Our expectations have been greatly met! All the staff is amazing, helpful and friendly. A special nod to Deacon and Adrian. These two are the best guides you could ask for. Knowledgeable, passionate, and so much fun! They know what they are doing and share it with you. We have such a love for Churchill because of our experiences at Lazy Bear Lodge. Food is plentiful and yummy. Staff are so kind and helpful. Strongly recommend this for your northern adventure 💕

We loved staying here! Alex was amazing! We had him for all of our tours and think he is just the best! He gave us a lot of information. My boyfriend Bobby didn't fit into the wet suits since he is a bigger guy so he just went for a ride-along for kayaking and aqua gliding with Alex. They had a great time talking and Bobby still loved his time on the water! We also loved our server Sage! She got all of our orders right and was very attentive. The restaurantant is pretty expensive but we liked everything we had. Since we stayed at the hotel the morning chef always told me what I could and could not eat and then gave me some gluten-free bread for breakfast! We also met Faith on the train ride up and she is now working in house keeping and killing it! We hope we can come back againn The beluga whales and polar bears are absolutely amazing! Thank you Lazy Bear!

Yelp
Didn't get helped at all. Although there were multiple workers around. Was waiting for 10 minutes and decided to leave. Will not be returning.

Yelp
What an amazing culinary experience we had for our ten day stay. All The tours were amazing. We learned so much during the heritage tour in the local museum. We went on an inflatable dinghy for a tour and were able to spot beluga whales and also a couple polar bear sightings. The entire staff was delightful and so helpful in every aspect. The owners, Wally and Dawn, worked hard to ensure that our expectations were met... I was truly impressed by their efforts.

Yelp
Churchill is a landlocked Town and is only accessible by Train or Plane. There aren't a lot of people here and the economy to a significant extent depends on tourists who are here to see the Polar Bears, Beluga Whales, and the Northern Lights. There's also a seasonal port here. The Lazy Bear Lodge (of which I hung out) is a nice place among a modest choice of accommodations within Churchill. And the right precautions are take to keep the Bears at Bay. Lodge services include 33 log cabin rooms, free train/plane pickup, phone, wi-fi, private bath/shower, no smoking, cable television, the Lazy Bear Café (of which I dined), and the Wapusk Store (of which I shopped). In other words, you get all the comforts of home in the middle of the wilderness.

Yelp
We ate at Lazy Bear Cafe multiple times during our 5 day stay in Churchill. The atmosphere was cozy and warm and the food was delicious. There are many options on the menu and each one we tried was great! The staff were friendly and attentive.

Yelp
Cozy and comfortable cafe with local specialities like Arctic char, elk and muskox, but also familiar favourites like salads, chicken fingers and burgers. Speciality espresso bar and delicious desserts. Order an espresso milkshake! Note: no alcohol served

Yelp
Greatest place to stay in Churchill, MA. Excellent, attentive, down to earth staff. The tundra buggy tours were just the right amount of rugged yet well taken care of. We saw 27 bears in 2 days! It was awesome. The logging was simple, but much nicer than I was expecting and I loved the story of how the lodge was built log by log by the owner, not one tree felled green. The only downside is that the cafe didn't serve alcohol, which was refreshing in a way, but it is nice to have a glass of wine with dinner when traveling. Definitely recommend for anyone who wants to get 5 star service at the top of the world.
