The rooms are very small but we were warned of this. It was amusing staying in such small rooms. They were warm and comfortable. The showers are clean and tidy. The communal kitchen was fully equipped but advised to bring food with you included oil to cook with. There is a nice communal living room. The lady that checked us in was very friendly and helpful. We bought food from Spar and cooked in the hostel and then walked to Smoo Cave Hotel for drinks. Don’t forget to take a torch if walking back after sunset as there is no street lighting.

The kitchen is really well fitted out to make your own meal - a very practical stop along the NC500. P.S the Haggis room really is tiny!

The rooms were pretty packed up. The washroom was tidy, and there was a big living/ eating area. There was parking- lot across the accommodation. But the price we paid for one family room was expensive considering services provided for just one night.

Rooms difficult to get in this village for a night so this although not something we’re used to staying in was perfectly fine for a night, small room but they did say so, comfortable bed, good facilities. Extremely cheap 😉

The best bunkhouse I've stayed in. Clean, well kitted out, beautiful location. You would actually be happy to rent the whole place for a family holiday- not a normal level of "somewhere to park your head at night" at all! Perfect

We were very unimpressed with our experience here. It's very expensive for a plain drab room with some bunkbeds, but my main issue was that it didn't feel as though any consideration had been given to what the guests actually needed or wanted. It was difficult to find, instructions unclear, and when I found the hostel there was no one there. Went back out the front and called a number stuck to the gate only to be told to go back to the Spa which I'd just carried all my bags past five minutes ago. Payment in cash was fiddly and for the price I couldn't believe we had to pay to rent towels as well- a real rip off. I went back an hour late to collect towels and the Spa was closed and number went straight to voicemail. No one around to help after 6.30pm. The kitchen is well equipped but the cooker etc was very inefficient, and the hostel was freezing. My main issue was that there was no way to lock the front door of the hostel, any of the rooms, and you couldn't even lock the shower doors. Not being able to lock the shower door in a mixed shared bathroom is absolutely not acceptable. When I asked about looking the door to the private room we had paid for I was told 'we don't lock anything here, it's the safest place in the world.' Firstly, you don't know anything about the other guests so that's hardly relevant and secondly, I don't think it's appropriate for the owners to decide what level of risk I should accept. Also pictures show beautiful grassy spaces with amazing views, but you're not allowed to use them so feels like false advertising. Also being told to check out by 9.30 and strip your own bed which I don't generally mind doing, but overall it felt like the owners wanted to take as much money as possible and put the bare minimum into the guest experience.

Lazy Crofter Bunkhouse Durness||The position of this hostel is quite perfect. Perched on the top of a small hill overlooking the village and the see, yet only a two min walk to the centre of the village. Communal bed rooms have lots of room in them but I would not recommend the private bunk rooms as they are the smallest I have ever seen. (it would be a benefit to guests if management turned the two very small private rooms into one resendable room by only removing a small partition wall at a minimum loss to their profits). The sitting/dining room is very cottage like and so very comfortable. kitchen is quite large for the size of the building and is adequate for all your cooking and so are the toilets, showers and washing rooms with lots of hot water. (note to the management it would be a great help if there was shelves and coat hooks in the washing areas). There is an excellent out door sitting/dinning timber patio to the front of the building with fantastic views, which was great to sit in for your meals when the weather permits as it did when we were there. Wifi was very good. You have to park your car in the village car park, only 2min walk which is medium size but starts to fill up about 4pm,. I don’t think the front door is locked night or day which I think is great because in my younger days of living in the Scottish Highlands we did not lock the doors, I don’t think we ever had any keys to do so. ||About one mile down the road from the hostel are some caves and well worth a visit, the work in them is voluntary so do leave a donation to keep the work going through the winter. There is also a hippy village and the beaches are so fantastic you cannot stop taking photos of them.||If this review has been of help to you please tick the box.

At the end of our trip North on An Turas Mor, we had two nights here. Arriving just before the Spar shop (opposite) closed, Robbie got us into the place and made sure we were all sorted||There are limited choices for eating out in the town but having eaten at Smoo Hotel on the way into town, we settled in for the evening. Sharing the place with four others, we had an enjoyable evening of conversation with lovely views out to sea.||The place is immaculately clean, bedrooms, self catering kitchen and washing areas. The communal dining room and lounge had comfy sofas and a big table with bench seating.||The washing facilities are great with clean and very hot showers, towels (lovely fluffy white ones!) can be ‘hired’ at £2 a stay.||We had a two person bunk room, described (correctly) as small, there is still full sized single beds, a lockable storage locker, bed side light and power sockets. Although fully double glazed, the place was warm and all window could be opened.||Kitchen was well presented, effectively the equivalent of two full kitchens, clean, electric coolers, microwave, toaster and fridge.||No issue stripping the beds at the end of our stay, it all helps keep the costs down.||As a base to get to or travel from, this place works well for those not looking for frills, just clean and comfortable accommodation. The local supermarket was excellent - especially the fresh pastries.||After a long trip on a bike this bunkhouse was ideal.|Would happily stay again!
