Well.. Not really even sure where to start on this one. But basically, it’s a spoofed up double wide trailer. It’s self check in, which is great, but we got here and there was no key in our lock box. The manager, although not even remotely apologetic, did come quickly and switched our room. Funnily enough, the room we were supposed to stay in, was actually under construction which we noticed the following day. The place itself is rough, and you get what you pay for. The bloody, smashed bugs on the walls, broken blinds, lamp with no light bulb, missing smoke alarm, exceptionally thin bath towels, a dispenser with maybe an inch of unknown substance- assuming shampoo?, and a shower which constantly changes from scalding hot, to freezing cold, are just some of the highlights you too can experience at this place. We also found the AC unit a bit tricky to adjust. But surprisingly, the bed was fairly comfortable. Of note- it’s also next to the bar that stays open late. If you’re really on a budget, this place is fine. But if you have some wiggle room, wiggle, and look elsewhere. UPDATE!! DROPPED TO 1 STAR- charged me more than I was supposed to pay on my Expedia Receipt.

This place was perfect for us. We were only staying in vieques for one night (bio bay tour). We just needed a place to sleep and a bathroom. We spent most of our 24 hours exploring the island but was a perfect place to rest. There is a restaurant on site and was great! It was walking distance to mostly everything we had planned. I would like to note for others that the restaurant on site is one of they only late night places on the island so may be a little loud at night for some. We were aware of this as it was listed in the property description but we also didn’t mind the noise. Price was great for what we were looking for and check-in was easy.

We booked on Airbnb, which was easy and the host provided great instructions. The rooms are simple but adorable and secure! There's a gate to enter and a cute courtyard with additional bathroom and shower. The location is great right on the water walking distance of the strip and restaurants (Bananas was so good). About a 10 min walk to where the bio bay tours are. About 5 min drive to black sand beach.

This place was cute and cozy. We stayed here for 2 nights while visiting the beautiful island of Vieques. Our hostess, the cat, came and greeted us every time we would return from our adventures. She was so adorable, and even kept us company inside the rooms while we were getting ready 🥺. Parking was always available and we got clean cold water from the bar. It’s walkable to the water (not really beachy, very rocky) and all the restaurants- we loved the Duffy and Bananas. For nice beaches, have to drive out on your golf cart to Playa Negra, Gringo Beach, or the nature reservation beaches. Giving this place a 4 stars because we had an incident with the AC not working and it was very late at night so the hostess stopped answering. Finally at the bar at lazy jacks, the manager gave us a remote that works and we were able to turn the AC off. I would stay here again, it was very affordable and all you really need. Most of the time you’ll be bumming out on the beaches anyway.

Staff were friendly and helpful. I was impressed with how calmly they dealt with an older guest who didn't understand that hostels are not hotels and are geared toward the younger crowd. Our private room with bath was budget minded but clean and tidy. Definitely a good value near the water. ***** five stars from us.

I don't expect a Ritz or Hilton but what I do expect is hospitality in the form of helpfulness! Unfortunately, we didn't have the opportunity to make a phone call as we only had internet available for our time in Puerto Rico. So we asked not just once but several times if they could please call us a taxi. The answer we received was “no, we don’t have time for that” or “we don’t have a phone”. that's one thing! The other thing is, if you're looking for peace and relaxation, you're wrong here. It resembles a party zone and every night (we were there for three days), the music system was turned up to maximum at 2 a.m., probably by the employees themselves. We had to vacate our room on the first night because the bed collapsed. No, I really don't expect a 5* hotel and I travel a lot, but I wouldn't recommend this accommodation or the location!

Google
Very cozy and comfortable place to stay on the island. The room is very clean and the interior design is good. It is right across the sea and supper close to various biobay tour agencies. Restaurants are a few minutes away, but because of this, it can get quite noisy at night especially if someone living in the adjacent rooms are drunk. Not sound proof at all, but if you're ok with noises at night or if you also party at night, Lazy Guesthouse would be the perfect place. Overall, great atmosphere, great environment and great location. Would definitely recommend!

Google
Super friendly staff, cool locations, the private rooms were super clean, cool and they had a good shower. They are very relaxed letting you keep your bags there the last day and use the shower. One staff member that demonstrate outstanding hospitality was Patrick, he was friendly, always cleaning and inviting. He truly has the gift of being a great host. Only suggestions I would have is to clean the refrigerators more and add butter, cheese for breakfast. Thank you a fun visit.

Yelp
Good hostel, staff is chill and laid back, rooms are clean, bring ear plugs! This place was built on a budget. It looks like an old stable that was converted into a hostel. The rooms have an air conditioner but have thin walls so sound travels easily. You'll most definitely need ear plugs! The common area is NOT furnished, it's covered with gravel and dirt so you must wear flip flops when leaving your room. But there are chairs, couches, tables, microwave, fridge and a coffee maker. The worst parts of this place: -The hostel is behind and attached to a bar, it's open late so there's music and chatter until 2 am. During the mornings the bar is closed and it's a great area to sit around with shade and chill. (Minus one star) -Hot water is not consistent, expect Luke Warm/slightly cold showers and be pleasantly surprised. The best part: -There are many bars and restaurants along the street Scooter, Kayak, Bicycle and Jet Ski rental down the street -Beach is a reasonable walk -Bodega/Convenience store near by (cheap groceries) -Publecos (taxi vans) drive by frequently -Nightly biobay kayak tours done by a local partner, usually with a small group. Really the "worst parts" of this place aren't bad if you're a frequent traveler and prepared for it, unless it's a weekend! MUAHAHAHA!

Yelp
I will forever come back and stay at Lazy Hostel! Between the beds, rooms, proximity to the beach, and the overall vibes - I couldn't have asked for more! What was best overall is how amazing all of the staff - Sam, Adam, Hope, Jillian, Nicole, Alistair, Levi, and Kat. As soon as you check in they take you in as their own and show you all the best experiences Vieques has to offer!

Yelp
A pleasantly unique experience for me. My friend and I took a chance and tried our first "Hostel" experience and it was really good! Nice people, organized kitchen and the whoket layout was welcoming. Adam who was on staff while we were there was very approachable. He entertained great conversation and gave good advice about sights to see and realistic expectations. The bioluminescent bay surpassed my expectations. I had a great experience at the Lazy House by Lazy Jack's bar - conviently located next to each other. Great location near places as well as close to the pier and beach.

Yelp
So many things wrong. To start, the hostel employee could not find the key to the original room designated for us so he brought us to a different room to make it "easier." Not a big deal to us at first because I figured all the rooms would be similar anyway. First thing I noticed was that there was urine left in the toilet and nobody flushed it prior to our arrival. My boyfriend and I did not get a chance to inspect the room closely because we quickly left to grab dinner and join a Bio Bay tour. After returning around 10pm, I took a shower and noticed the water does not get hot or even warm. It is mildly cold at best. Hand soap is watered down. A variety of different bugs are either dead or walking all over the bedsheets, pillowcases, and floor. I can't tell whether they are bed bugs specifically, but there are way too many for me to be comfortable sleeping on the bed. Lastly, there is a cigarette hole burned into the bedsheet. Unfortunately, my boyfriend and I returned late from the tour and there is no alternative for a place to stay. Please be wary before booking a stay at this hostel. It might be worth your while to spend a little extra for a better accommodation.

Yelp
I booked this place on AB&B as it was recommended based on my location for a last minute stay and it was on a completely different Island with no way to get there. I called to request a cancellation and the young man wanted to honor my request but the manager refused. After requesting AB&B assistance they also called and the manager refused to honor the refund. Don't like that they have zero sympathy, empathy and just left a bad taste. I DO NOT RECOMMEND. Save your money and do not trust them to do the right thing.

Yelp
Great affordable little hostel! The staff are so fun and friendly. The rooms and bathrooms were nice and clean. The area is close to restaurants and walking distance to a lot of beaches. Shoutout to Donna for folding our laundry that we forgot in the dryer overnight. Tom gave us a lot of suggestions for food and which beaches to go to. Bryan gave us a can of his homemade sunscreen. Honestly the nicest group of people ever!

Yelp
Had no other intention in Vieques but to take a tour at Biobay. I found so much to do / around because of this hostel. It's perfectly situated right between the most lively parts of Esperanza. The staff are VERY helpful and knowledgeable, especially Donna! Wonderful place, greatly recommend

Yelp
This place is doing great post-hurricane Maria!!!! I've traveled to a lot of countries and stayed in many hostels but none with the loving kindness shown to me by these folks. I am a female traveling alone and stayed in the bunkroom, and felt totally safe at all times. It's in an excellent area, right across from the beach, lots of dining and late night options just a couple of blocks down, and there are private rooms too if you prefer it. I was genuinely blown away by the level of service at such an inexpensive place, and also at how well they had repaired their facilities since the hurricane. Go there, you'll be happy you did. PS: yes, Puerto Rico could use your tourism dollars. Go ahead, tip a little extra everywhere you go, it's been a tough year for these good folks and they well deserve it.

Yelp
Had a great stay here for my getaway to Vieques. The place was clean and many amenities were provided to explore the island and enhance my stay. One of the employees, Billy, was very friendly and had interesting stories to share. Definitely would go again!

Yelp
This hostel had completely acceptable beds, linens, air conditioning and facilities for the price we paid. Where this hostel shines is its amazing location and incredible staff. More than anywhere else I'ver ever stayed, the staff at the Lazy Hostel worked to create a sense of community. They were kind, attentive and made a big effort to make everyone feel at home on the island. The location is great if you want to make friends. experience beautiful beaches within walking distance and enjoy the nightlife of Veiques. However, if you're looking for a quiet, isolated getaway, this isn't what I would choose.

Yelp
This is a hostel, they don't claim to be anything fancy. The provide you with a bed, a toilet and a roof over your head for a reasonable price, cheaper then most in the area!. I had a private room with great a/c and a comfy bed. We had a little issue with cleanliness in our room which was handled quickly and professionally by the guy at the desk (Ryan) the common area was great to hang out in with big comfy couches and the staff at the front desk were all super cheery and helpful, reccomending places to go and things to do! (only major con would be the really crappy WiFi and for some reason I got 4g everywhere on the island except in this hostel?!) The bar next door was fine, always busy, even when other places had shut down, lots of industry people hanging out and the best part, somehow the noise from the bar didn't seem to carry over to the sleeping area!!

Yelp
Probably the least bang for buck of any hostel I've stayed in (out of 6 continents) BUT it is in Vieques and much cheaper than anything else so that's that. I'd stay there again. Worth the $10/night extra for private room if travelling with a friend. Staff are nice and helpful. 2 star hotel/hostel basically, but the score is for the rooms and beds. Great location on Vieques. Linen actually provided. Showers are mostly hot. PB&J sandwiches and coffee for breakfast is better than nothing.

Yelp
We just finished our trip to Vieques. It was absolutely amazing. Our room was great (we got a private) and the facilities were always clean. What we liked best was how welcoming all the staff was. Alex, Emily, Melissa, Dan, Sam, and everyone else went out of their way to make our stay so special. Plus, the bio bay tour with Heather was AMAZING!

Yelp
Allow me to begin by mentioning that I don't get nervous. Ever. Not by speaking in public. Not on a first date. And certainly not when I baked my first bundt cake. Upon checking in, I was so nervous I thought I was going to be sick. But within minutes I felt right at home. I mentioned in small talk that not only was I traveling solo but I had never stayed in a hostel before! The cheerful gentleman working the front desk (who I now call my friend Devin!) said something I'm likely never to forget: "The good news... and the bad news is that this will be the best hostel you ever stay at!" I can't imagine that statement to be more true after spending 9 days at Lazy. The dorm rooms are quaint. Tight to be honest but plenty sufficient and encouraging of getting out of bed and exploring! I chose the all female dorm which included 4 bunks. Each bed offered basic bedding but I might recommend bringing your own pillow if space allows. Each bed is also equipped with a curtain for privacy while you sleep which was a great touch! Lockers are provided for valuables and locks are even available for rent! Showers were hot. Bathrooms were clean. And free wifi was crucial. #lazypizza More important than the library of books waiting to be read or the hammocks hung in the shade for my relaxation were the people. The energy at Lazy is palpable. The air radiates with good vibes! It truly starts with the staff. Devin will make you feel comfortable in a new environment immediately upon arrival. He's definitely good for a joke, an adventure or for good company on a cloudy day! Shaun (who I jokingly refer to as the mayor) is the guy to know. His warm disposition and encouraging outlook will leave you feeling like a million bucks. And let's not forget Ethan... Ethan will not only share his pizza with you but he will also invite you on a 7 mile run (immediately after eating said pizza). If you're lucky, he might even write you a poem. Did I mention that The Lazy Hostel is connected to Lazy Jacks BAR? Not just any bar, the most popular bar in Esperanza. Shoutout to John and Michael! Great bartenders always ensure a killer vacation! Spend a few minutes lounging around on the couch and you are certain to end up chatting with someone who inspires you. I was amazed to have met so many likeminded people living incredibly interesting lives. I could go on forever about how much I love this place. And I nearly have. But the point is: it's awesome. You're gonna have the best time. Dare I say it might even change your life!

Samantha G.

Yelp
So I couldn't bring myself to give the place 3 stars, but the place was NOT horrible. Honestly, I would rather camp and save my money for more food at El Resuelve. If you aren't camping, it is the cheapest place on the island. The food is decent, but American. The alcohol is about average for the island. The staff is very nice and they will give you solid advice. My biggest peeves about this hostel were: the dirty linens, open air bathrooms, and over all cleanliness. The linens, on both beds, were heavily stained and ripped. The towels, however, smelled nice and there were always some available to use. The bathrooms were open air, therefore...smell. The bathrooms always smelled of urine, another downside. If it is raining a considerable amount, you are probably going to experience some leakage from the roof. This was not really a big deal, since it was mainly in the common area. TL;DR If you are staying at the beach all day and crashing for a few hours at night, you will probably not have a problem with this place.

Yelp
Clean hostel, comfy bunks. Great staffing really made the trip (Ethan S.) Would love to come again.
