"Sup at the Summit It’s not just Restaurant le 3842’s elevation that will make you lose your breath. Known as one of Europe’s highest restaurants (3,842 meters above sea level), this remarkable spot provides panoramic views of snow-dipped Alpine peaks that you can almost reach out and touch. Somehow built onto the side of Aiguille du Midi and only accessible via the cable car, this remarkable feat of engineering seems more like the dining place of Gandalf the Grey than a quality French restaurant. Once you've dragged yourself from the viewing platform, head inside to dine on locally sourced fare including cured meats, cheese, and Savoie rump steak."

An experience to grab lunch 3,842 meters high! We spent quite some time on top of Aiguille du Midi so it was only right we reserved a table to eat while on the mountain. The space is small and they fill up quickly so you’ll need to make reservations beforehand. My husband ordered a local beer and I got a red wine. We did the soup, meal and dessert combo, and very much enjoyed everything.

These French fries were amazing and the thought that I could just comfortably eat them while looking around Mont Blanc was incredible.

Despite our expectation that restaurants on this altitude usually offers more of the view than the quality of the food, we were blown away by how superb the food was. You must order a combination of courses in this restaurant, either 2 course or 3 course, at an understandably higher price. We ordered two sets of 2-course meal and paid around 90+ Euro plus one normal drink. Went for 1 starter, 2 main course and 1 dessert. The local snails plus the sauce were excellent, while the veal was one of the best we ever tasted. The fish was also fresh and the apple pie with ice cream was just the perfect finishing touch. The quality of this restaurant is one of the best I've tasted and if you're visiting Aiguille du Midi, you must visit this restaurant both for the experience and food. Service was also excellent. Loved it.

Happened to get in because another party canceled. So glad we got to eat here. The menu board is full of locally sourced ingredients for you to try in prix fixe fashion. The melon and prosciutto salad was delicious as well as my truffle pork chop.

Very very dirty tables and actually the entire facility on the cafétéria area! My jacket sticked to the table when I laid my arms on it. Sales lady was bored and unfriendly. We asked info about some products and she was just adding them to the bill without answering us. They can't serve a cake on a plate with proper cutlery or hot drinks on a proper mug. Everything is disgusting and dirty!! La tarte (cake) was served on a napkin with a very fragile wooden spoon, impossible to be used. Take some hospitality lessons from your Swiss neighbors! Prices as in Switzerland.

This review is strictly for Cafeteria and not for the restaurant, but because there is no Cafeteria location here and I believe is part of restaurant. I will start with the cleaning. The tables were we stayed were dirty and very sticky! This dirt was hardened there for at least few hours if not days! It didn't get out with a simple wet napkin! The prices are almost or even higher than Swiss alternatives! For this price you can't afford to hire a person to do cleaning? I went in many places also in Swiss and the services, the veriety of the food and the prices are way better than here! The staff was on a very high rush and unfrendly. Even we spoke with them in French they still been pretty rude. I went here in 2012 and the experience was much better! What happened meanwhile? Advice: take some examples from your Swiss neighbors: services, politeness and a lot of cleanliness.

It may be expensive but totally worth it if you can afford it. The views alone are worth it but the facilities at the top are fantastic too and the cable cars are brilliant . We thought 2 hours at the top would be too long but it turned out to be not enough time and we wished we'd had another half an hour. It was around €62 return for adults and €52 for a child. Well organised system with time slots for the cable cars rather than having to stand in massive queues. Lots of different look out points in all directions at different heights, educational areas, a little cafe, souvenir shop. You can walk out into a glass box suspended over a drop off which is very cool if you're not afraid of heights! Loads of mountaineers to watch, they're crazy!

Yelp
Great food at super high elevation. The protons are huge so you may want to share, they have a daily menu with fresh ingredients. Everything is made to order. The food is great considering that is is being prepared at 12,600 feet. A must do once in a life time if you don't get altitude sickness.

Yelp
Honestly, I wonder if 3842 paid for the prior reviews. Here is the real and honest review: Starting with the good 1. The Service. The service was friendly but slow. Very slow. Nearly 2 hours for lunch. We tried to make a reservation online and it was full for the next 3 days. Our hotel concierge (Heliopic) was no help. But we had an unlimited pass on the gondola, so we went up there and while there checked out the restaurant. It was half full at 12:45pm. The waitress said we could have lunch. When I told her all reservations were full, she said they keep several tables open for walk-ins. So you might get lucky (or unlucky) like us. 2. The venue. Very small, maybe 7 or 8 tables. Only two are by a window and have any view. Really better to walk around the copious decking on a sunny day and take in the breathtaking views. No advantage to be eating at 3842 metres (nearly 13,000 feet). 3. The Food, The food choices were limited and thoroughly disappointing. We had three of the four options - sea bass, tartiflette and pork chops. The tartiflette was super salty and unenjoyable. Had a stiff piece of prosciutto sticking out of it. The sea bass and pork chop were completely tasteless. THe onion soup starter had a fair amount of sugar in it and the crouton floated on top with miserly amount of cheese. The onions were white and obviously not caramelized at all. There was simply nothing remarkable about this place, rather it was quite bad. I can only surmise that we got an unlucky day. 4. The Value. Horrible. It cost us 174 Euro for three lunchs (two 2-course and one 3-course price fixe) and two glasses of wine. SAVE your money and time and eat in Chamonix. *** Contrary to my expectations, the 73 euro spent on the gondola ride was worth it for the views.

Yelp
Amazing location and excellent food. Started with local cow's milk cheese spread to go with delicious bread. Moved onto sautéed escargot and morel dish. Main was a veal sausage filled with cheese and herbs. Sipped a Jamison's while I ate looking out on a sunny day on the French/Swiss/Italian border. Note: take your whiny children elsewhere. There's no hot chocolate.

Yelp
Not worth the trip. Closes randomly. As early as 2pm with no indication that is the case until you've spent you money to get there. Passable but there's basically no choice.... Also no view from the restaurant. Have lunch in town and check the view from the cafeteria.
