Where to Sip, Eat, and Stay in Quebec City

"The hotel’s speakeasy-style bar features inventive cocktails that combine local botanicals and premium spirits (examples include blueberry liqueur and sea buckthorn) alongside Quebec beers, wines, vegetarian snacks, local cheeses, and truffled french fries — a cozy, inventive spot for a nightcap." - Nina Caplan

Staff especially Mez & Tom were very knowledgeable and hospitable. Chef David’s menu was well balanced and cooked to perfection. The menu changes often from what I’m told but that’s what makes this place a restaurant to go back to.

I made a reservation for one and I came alone to listen to the jazz on a Sunday night. The staff made me comfortable and made me some great drinks. The food was wonderful and I got to learn all about the local gins!

My fiancé and I were on our way to our favorite cocktail bar when we stumbled upon this place and thought we might have found our new neighborhood spot. The space is beautiful with a great ambiance. We were greeted warmly with a big smile and seated at a cozy table for two. Unfortunately, the experience quickly shifted when our server arrived. He was a large man who leaned over me from behind, completely in my space, which felt intimidating and uncomfortable. He seemed impatient, halfway through our order he walked away, and we had to call him back to finish. When we did, his dismissive “yea yea” made us feel rushed and unwelcome. The cocktails themselves were excellent. Both delicious and beautifully presented. We had also ordered nuts to go with our drinks, but when my fiancé asked about them, the server gave him a disgusted look, raised his voice as he walked away and replied, “yeaaaaaaa I only have a pair of hands.” I was shocked. His attitude was jarring and completely out of place for such an elegant bar. Not long after, we watched him raise his voice at two elderly women sitting nearby, who looked just as confused and uncomfortable as we felt. We decided to finish our drinks, pay the bill, and leave (we still tipped, knowing the rest of the staff, who were kind and professional, shouldn’t be penalized). It’s truly disappointing, because this could have easily become a new favorite of ours. Sadly, because of the service we experienced, we won’t be returning.

The bartender is too talkative, which feels annoying. The Service is too slow. We waited an hour for our food, and it tasted terrible. Everyone behind the bar looks frustrated and disorganized. Don't order the cheesecake on the menu! I have no idea what that is. The only good part is the cocktail. If anyone asked me if there is anything I regret for my Quebec trip, I will say choose this restaurant on my last night of the trip.

Although their bartender Andrew was incredible and worthy of 6 stars, we had reservations for 8:30 and the hostess sat us at the bar promising to honour our dining seats as soon as a table opens up. We waited 20 minutes, got no update, watched 3 other couples come after us get seating, and after reminding her she asked us to wait a few seconds only to not return. Atmosphere was 5 stars as the place has such a unique vibe and the music was great. I think this place is so much better than the lack of service we received from the hostess and it saddens me to give them 3 stars.

We enjoyed our experience at Le Bijou. We presented the diamond we found in our room in exchange for the tapas. The tapas included 2 tiny portions of orzo as well as 2 peppers drizzled with sauce/vinaigrette. I ordered a bloody Caesar but when I checked the bill, it showed that I had received the house special bloody Caesar, which is not what I had requested. We also ordered the truffle fries. The sauces were put on the side to accomodate my husband's aversion to garlic. There was live jazz music but the musicians took an extended break of 25 minutes, when musicians should only take a 15 minute break in order to maintain the interest of the audience. Overall, the experience was good; not excellent because the food and drinks were overpriced even though taking into consideration that the food price is compensating for the musicians. But the prices are fixed and the same for times when there are no musicians...

This trendy spot near Rue St Jean was a great place to start our visit to Quebec City. We had a group of 8 and were tired from our travels but excited to be together and enjoy the restaurant. We were seated near the window overlooking busy Rue Pierre-Olivier-Chauveau, giving us a prime view of the bustling intersection. Our drink order took a bit to arrive, but we had to wait much longer for our food. We were assured a few times that it would arrive soon, but the 45+ minute delay was unwelcome. When nourishment arrived, we were pleased to devour the tasty plates.
