We went there on the 19th of April, the guy who served us apologised immediately as they didn’t have full menu due to closing of the restaurant the day after for refurbishment. Anyway we had quite range of choices. The quality was good, I tried the tartare which for me was a completely different flavour as the cut of the meat was like mince and it was mixed with mustard, covering all the flavours. Service was really good.

If you want a lovely, typically Parisian lunch or dinner in a beautiful, art-deco café with charming sidewalk seating, this is the place. The service is always fantastic, and the food is very nice. Be sure to admire all the elegant woodwork and the art on the walls and ceilings. It's like walking back into the Belle Epoque. This is our go-to place in the neighborhood.

Summary: delicious duck confit, beef tartare and friendly servers! One of the bistros that we frequent in Paris and I think it's about time I write it a review. The place has a beautiful Art Deco design inside and outside, it's like going back in time. So I appreciate the view a lot, looking around while waiting for my orders. The menu is varied enough for all tastes and they serve french classics if you wanna try that. Each time we come in 2 or in group at least one orders the duck confit with potatoes because it's just simply delicious. A little warning tho that it's really fatty😅 but it's worth it. You have fork tender duck cooked in its own fat. They put a bit of basil pesto to add a kick of flavor on the potatoes and I like that. I crave for this dish so it's that good! As for dessert, the baba au rhum is nice for sharing since it's a big portion of cake. I would never be able to finish it by myself😅 I prefer the molten cake than this one tho. Anyway, go try this place!

Google
wow!!! this place is truly amazing, some of the best wines I have tasted - after describing what I want I was left in the hands of the manager who got me two of probably the nicest wines I have ever tasted, blindly to me but so so so good ! the food was delicious too, really recommend going for the oeuf entree dish that comes with bacon lardons and and a wine-gravy type sauce. I love eating out when away and this was best experience I had in Paris - eating at researched places at least twice a day !

I loved so much the ambiance of the restaurant. Everything was perfect! If you want to try typical French cuisine, I definitely recommend you to give a chance to Bistrot du Peintre.

I went there for a simple drink and some snacks to chew on, obviously not because I was hungry but to appreciate the architecture of this restaurant/historical monument. It was purely beautiful, charmingly vintage like in the belle epoque. The warm welcome and decent service from the staff convinced me that whatever the purpose of your visit to the restaurant might be, whether for a proper meal, a conversation over glasses of beer, snacks, or for a mini educational trip like me, you’ll have a good time.

Yelp
We happened to stop by this restaurant for dinner as many restaurants in the area were booked solid. We were quickly seated and had an amazing dinner. Our favorites: Foie gras Steak Duck confit (this was the best duck we had of the trip) Wine (Gamay) They have plenty of outdoor and indoor seating and we're very well priced. Would recommend if in the area.

Yelp
Great food in a beautiful art nouveau setting at reasonable prices. The place is not big and each time I visited I've been amazed and excited we got a table. Service is friendly and professional. Last time we visited my daughter and I had the confit de canard and loved it. We had a wonderful dinner!

Yelp
First night in Paris and had a good meal late. Wait staff super friendly and helpful. Busy with good atmosphere. Food very good.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my time here. The server was really nice and personable in detailing the menu and providing recommendations. The food here was also great. The duck breast was delicious. Being cooked in duck fat makes it even better. The escargot was also really good. Sitting outside is always nice, despite everyone smoking everywhere. Overall though, I think this place was great.

Yelp
This was an incredible final dinner in Paris. My friend and I didn't know what we wanted to do on our last night, but we knew we wanted to find a restaurant walking distance from Le Baron Rouge. We made a reservation in advance, which I highly recommend as most tables were taken when we arrived. We ordered a bottle of Sancerre, which was delicious. I started with a cheese plate, and my friend got a french onion soup. The cheese plate could easily be split between two, but I really wanted some french cheese before departing so I went for it! For entrees, I ordered the duck confit, and my friend ordered a steak that came with bearnaise sauce and pepper sauce... both were amazing. The duck confit was incredible and perfectly cooked, and my friend really enjoyed her steak. Can't wait to come back when I return to Paris!

Yelp
My second visit to Le Bistrot du Peintre was infinitely better than my first. A friend and I spent a leisurely couple of hours drinking, talking and having a snack. Both the hip bartender and the young manager (I think he was the manager) joked with us in both English and French. They were great! My Duck Confit wouldn't win any awards, but it was quite good. I will return to this neighborhood cafe in January and again in March when I return to Paris. It's the kind of place I want remembering my name. Merci beaucoup!

Yelp
Wonderful bistro for dining and drinks. I met my old friend here while visiting Paris. We had a wonderful time with a variety of wine choices and delicious food. The service was youthful and friendly. Thankfully, my French friend did most of the ordering but at the same time the wait staff understood some English was well. All in all, a great place for weekend dining.

Yelp
Service here was wonderful as the waiters were attentive with clearing the table and ensuring that food arrived on time. You can sit inside and outside of the restaurant, and it filled up pretty quickly around 7 PM on a Wednesday night. Would definitely come back again if I'm ever in the area again!

Yelp
A solid, good choice for a French restaurant. Elegant but casual art nouveau décor, reasonable prices (9-14€ for plats), and surprising twists to French classics, friendly service - what more do you want? :) pros: - nice variety of choices and fun menu - parmentier de canard was filling and delicious - perfect proportions of duck and mashed potatoes. - litchee financier with sake mascarpone cheese - WOW. where else would you find this? I certainly did not expect to find something like this here, but it was a very pleasant surprise and incredibly delicious. It didn't look that awesome, but it was creative and excellent. The sake flavored the mascarpone wonderfully, but not overwhelmingly (I usually don't like any alcohol taste at all) and the warm litchees flavored the financier excellently. - good service! cons: - The entrées/plats/desserts du jour were pretty difficult to read; we pretty much had to ask the waiter to read all of them (and he was really nice about reading & explaining). However, this can easily be remedied by looking online at the menu beforehand. They really are up-to-date. - A little far from the métro, but it's a nice walk. All in all, I really liked Le Bistrot du Peintre :)

Yelp
We had a really nice last night in Paris meal here. Enjoyed the marrow starter, the duck salad, and I experienced my first tartare. Followed with tasty desserts- good quirky ice cream flavors. Fast service and a good view of the street from the heated patio.

Yelp
Wanting a relaxed French restaurant that has no pretences, try here. Very easy, nice waiting people who can converse in English if needed. Good good, good wine. Try the Côtes de Rhône wines. Comfortable

Yelp
Wonderful Bistro!! We went back a second time. Celebrated a Birthday during our trip. The food was great & the desserts were awesome! Roasted chicken was delicious! Simple. Casual. Not too expensive. Great service & friendly atmosphere :)

Yelp
My husband and I went to Le Bistrot du Peintre for dinner last night and were pretty disappointed by the quality of the food. The atmosphere of the restaurant is pretty warm and the service is prompt. As starters my husband had the Soupe à L'oignon and I had the Poireaux vinaigrette, both solid choices. We continued with a pot-au-feu for my husband, which was decent but not particularly good (I am French so I know what good pot-au-feu tastes like). I had saucisse au couteau et purée de pommes de terres au cantal. My sausage was very dry and my mashed potatoes tasted neither homemade nor very cheesy. The plate looked like it had been waiting out and been reheated for me. As a dessert, we shared the profiteroles made with lower quality ice cream and chocolate cream. Overall a "meh" experience and definitely too expensive for the quality of the food.

Yelp
Just fabulous from the reception to the decor to the service to the ultimate reason for being there-the food! Will put this on our regular go-to list. The leeks au vinaigrette were not-to-miss.

Yelp
We came after a not so great meal at a place that was recommended to us very highly...lesson learned. Anyway, we just came here because we wanted dessert and a tea/coffee and a little sit down. The service was slow and the dessert was just okay, the decor is beautiful though and I'm a sucker for beautiful things. I just love being in places that are historic and old and just pleasing on the eye, this was all those things for me. I might come back again here for a drink, I liked the bar area, right as you walk in the door, next time perhaps, try some food too!

Yelp
My favorite place in Paris. It was best in the cold January months when smoking was allowed in Paris restaurants (and I don't even smoke). Doesn't quite have as great a vibe now that that's been nixed, but still an amazing place at a reasonable (by Paris standards) price. The canard confit is exceptional and the staff speaks little English but neither do they make non-french speaking folk feel a fool. My fiance adored the fondu almost as she adores much as me!

Yelp
My sister and I visiting Paris were recommended to come here by our host who lives around the corner. We ordered the Charcuterie and she had the salad with the seared tuna. I ordered the ravioli. We both got considerably sick with food poising. Both of us had the Charcuterie. So we are figuring it was that. The service was great but what a rough way to spend our first night (and next day). Quite a price to pay for someone not washing their hands or cutlery.

Ron G.

Yelp
This place gets some attention because of decor. The food represents the very worst of lazy, C20th French "cooking". The pasta was utterly tasteless. The "well cooked" andouillette inedible. I love traditional French cooking, but this place is an example that justifies new cooking.

Vic L.

Yelp
Le bistrot du peintre is a great restaurant. The restaurant looks awesome, the service is great and the food tastes very good. We had duck confit and entrecôte. Also They have a very good wine selection.

Yelp
Great neighborhood! Service with a smile and boy can they cook up some Duck and many different ways. We had one each of their different styles and they were all magnificent. Good wholesome french cooking. And a great wheat bread to pair. Very well priced...My Duck de Jour was 12 euro and my Bordeaux was 3 euro.

Yelp
I loved this place! The atmosphere was quintessentially Parisien. In a fantastic neighborhood as well. What made this place for me was not just the delicious food, the fantastic patrons or the great wine...it was the staff! Unbelievably nice. I wanted to practice my french and the waiter was beyond accommodating. If he saw I couldn't understand what he may have said, he would say it in English and then switch back to French as to give me a mini lesson. Go, please go. Get a burger and have some wine. Sit on the patio and watch the city pass you buy and enjoy every bit of this experience.

Yelp
Good food with a very reasonable price for this otherwise expensive city. The service was excellent and very helpful. The menu isn't in English though. I would come back.

Yelp
Gorgeous restaurant with decent food. We went on a warm Friday evening in July and chose to sit inside because it was so lovely, but it was pretty muggy. I bet it's wonderful in wintertime. We had a large party and frazzled our waitress a bit but she was nice about it and our food came relativity quickly. A few of us ordered starters but everything came out at the same time. The lamb chops were delicious and the onion tart was custardy and full of flavor. The pasta dishes were okay, although served only lukewarm. I also had roast chicken with salad and fries which was nothing to write home about. The best thing about the restaurant was the atmosphere. I really liked the premise (locally sourced foods and wines) but the food was just okay. I might recommend coming here for a drink or dessert instead if a meal.

Yelp
Beautiful art deco interior/exterior and wonderful menu that even (surprisingly) has good vegetarian options! Keeping one star out of my review because my eggplant lasagna was served with fresh mozzarella on the side - still frozen. It's not really important though - The food is still good and it's great ambiance! It's nice to go to a real, traditional Parisian bistro that isn't a tourist trap.

Yelp
5 stars just for the decor! I had a salade au chevre chaud, a favourite of mine, and it was the best one I had on the trip. I used to live in Paris so I have places I go back to every trip and this is definitely getting on that list now. And it's just BEAUTIFUL! Authentic art deco. And the waiters were all extremely friendly. Even if you just go for a cafe or vin, it is worth making the trip to get there. Quick walk from the metro as well.

Yelp
We had a truly delicious meal here - 5 stars for food. Our waiter was the biggest jerk ever. Really mean - like the stereotype on crack. The duck with mashed potatoes and duck confit (so infused with flavor) were OFF THE CHAIN good. Great wine, and ambiance too.

Yelp
Great place! The food was spot on.. My steak was perfectly cooked . Nice selection of wines and an incredibly helpful and friendly staff. All in all a very reasonable price for an excellent experience.

Yelp
Cute. I liked it. It is on a very noisy corner, but it's a lovely traditional Parisian cafe with beautiful art deco interior and perfect for an apero.

Yelp
This is my favorite bistro in Paris. We got a recommendation to go here from a friend in December... went there a few times that trip, and during another month-long stay in August (when all the Parisian escape from the city), went back a few more times! My favorite is the fondue entree, perfect during the winter. The atmosphere is wonderful. Can't wait to go back!

Ory E.

Yelp
The original Art Nouveau setting is worth a visit, and we heartily recommend the food and service at this classic Paris gem. We met up with friends for a leisurely lunch this Saturday, including starters, main courses and desserts, all of which were prepared in house and superb. Service was attentive and friendly. Excellent value for the price!

Yelp
A friend and I went here one evening for dinner after wandering through a maze of overpriced French food. Not only were the prices extremely modest, but the food was amazing. The staff was both friendly and helpful with reading the all-French menu, even giving me a lesson in French, which I had mostly forgotten. Hopefully I will be back soon!

Yelp
We stayed on Ledru Rollin and passed this restaurant everyday. It looked like your typical Parisian restaurant with outdoor patios seating and a ton of customers smoking outside. We wanted to have a nice, fancy French dinner out so we headed up the street to Le Bistrot du Peintre. I was a bit hesitant due to the smoky exterior which I had to walk through everyday I passed this restaurant. Also, the Yelp reviews describing this restaurant as having the typical bad French service made me reluctant to go here. But as soon as we entered, the servers were nice and friendly to us Americans. They told us we could sit upstairs which was less congested and far away from the smokers. The food was ok. We had the bone marrow, steak tartare and the duck confit and the Baba au rhum aka rum cake (seriously sitting in a cup of rum). I honestly have had these items better back in Seattle at Canlis, but despite the mediocre food, I have given this restaurant a higher rating for the ambiance and for their customer service. Michael served us and he was amazing. He by far went out of his way and provided us with a high quality dining experience. Michael even went to the lengths to read the entire menu to us in English, as well as grabbed a kitchen bowl and hand mixed the steak tartare to help make the steak tartare just right. Besides serving customers upstairs, I think he was also serving customers downstairs as he was constantly running up and down the narrow and steep stairway with plates and food. The prices were actually not too bad and the atmosphere was semi casual. I wouldn't wear shorts and flip flops but I would have been ok with jeans and a nice blouse. Overall, our dining experience was great due to Michael. Thank you, Michael!

Yelp
Very enjoyable meal here, recommended by The NYTimes Frugal Traveler. Sat outside, it's on a busy corner not far from the Bastille, protected by glass. Husband had beef and I had a most delicious salmon. Only miss was the shared Caesar salad. Didn't need the chicken there. Waiters were very pleasant and the neighborhood is perfect for people-watching.

Lon D.

Yelp
Quite a disappointment. Though service was good, quality of meal was far below current Yelp average rating. Soup however was suburb versus the grissile sausage served with the prawn dish as an entre. Bread--a French staple was heavy, dry and possibly yesterday's. perhaps they do lunch better, but the evening meal is to be avoided.
