Le Bar Botaniste in Paris Is Mixing the Most Creative Cocktails in Europe - AFAR

"Set inside the Shangri-La Hotel just steps from the Trocadéro and a short stroll from the Eiffel Tower, this botanically driven cocktail bar showcases head barman Clement Emery’s year-long, travel-journal approach to hunting rare herbs and preserving them in alcohol. The 20-item menu—honoring the building’s former owner, botanist Prince Roland Bonaparte—reads like a supplements aisle and features inventive tinctures and presentations (the “Nektar” is served in a bee-shaped glass and combines mead, pollen, beeswax, and propolis). Notable concoctions include the Silk Road–inspired “Cyrus” (Polish rye, black lemon powder, Lillet), the flower-garnished spritz “Bloom” (amaro with a housemade tincture of 20+ ingredients), a saffron- and green-cardamom twist on the negroni, and the “Cocoa Dementha” (gin, chocolate mint, cocoa bean, marshmallow root). Plush leather chairs, theatrical plating, and a strong focus on botanical aromatics create the feel of an around-the-world tasting journey; the bar is open daily from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m." - David K. Quiet elegant spot for pre-dinner drinks. Cocktails were excellent, refined and creative, and the service was superb. Surprisingly empty for a Tuesday night, which made it feel like a hidden gem. Perfect for a peaceful start to the evening.

We stopped in here for a nightcap and we were not disappointed! All of the staff at this bar were absolutely fabulous. Wonderful drinks and the service was 10/10. Paul was amazing - he offered us some great recommendations for our last night in Paris, and was a pleasure to talk to and get to know! Thank you all so much for making one of our last nights in Paris so memorable!! We will definitely be back.

Great cocktails in a very classy environment, unfortunately not buzzy, so we missed a bit of a good ambience. Drinks are good, service is polite and knowledgeable. Worth a visit if you looking for a good drink and great selection of great spirits. Minus is the price, I believe it’s on the overpriced side.

Great hotel cocktails bar, the “22nd century” cocktail was great. Also great choice of wines - muscat Baumes de Venise was delicious. The modified whiskey sour was perfectly executed, yet not that imaginative. Expect very high prices - 32-39€/cocktail, 22€/wine. Beautiful atmosphere.

Le Botaniste was an okay hotel bar. The drinks we received were weak and oddly flavored, and more expensive than other bars nearby. Interior decorations were fine, although service was slow and vibes similarly quiet. Likely wouldn't come back.

Super chic spot with spot-on cocktails and impeccable service. Come here for fancy cocktails with a date or for a business meeting. Either way, they’ll have you covered!

Yelp
Loved this place! Giuseppe was an awesome bartender that made the best drinks! We had to hit this place twice while we were Paris.

Yelp
This is a gorgeous cocktail bar inside of the Shanghai La hotel. The cocktails are very very expensive. While good, you're paying for the hotel, not the drinks. Had the patatas bravas. Perfectly done. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside with a great sauce. But again very expensive for what it was. Worth a visit if you're in the area but I probably wouldn't go out of my way.

Yelp
My husband and I chose this bar because it was walking distance from our AirbnB in Paris. It is very close to the Eiffel Tower. The bar is located within the Shangri-La hotel. It can seem a bit intimidating/pretentious walking in but the staff make you feel comfortable. The drinks were great! Be prepared to pay however, drinks were 35 euros each.

Yelp
True to theme, there is a lush garden on the wall and water is poured from a watering pot. The drinks definitely have strong herbal and floral notes.. I found one of them to be quite overwhelming and they quickly fixed it with some bubbly tonic to tone it down! An excellent experience above and beyond what we expected! Setting: 4/5 Drink: 4/5 Extra: 4/5 Overall: 4/5

Yelp
Beautiful and nuanced cocktails, in a cozy but elegant setting. Kind and attentive service as well!

Yelp
Tasty cocktails, cozy ambience, but the nuts... the nuts that came complimentary with our drinks were the best nuts I've ever had. And they kept coming.

Yelp
One of the finest cocktail programs I have seen. Head bartender Clement Emery is a genius, and each cocktail is a true work of art. Excellent service, beautiful cozy space, and drinks that elevate. Gorgeous.

Yelp
We went there with friends for some casual tea/coffee/dessert in the middle of the day. The service was awful from the very beginning. We were given menu after some 15minutes of waiting and the order was taken after 30minutes of arrival - great star for a supposedly "best hotel in Paris"... We were also notified that because it was not 3PM, half of the menu is not available. Hot beverages started arriving after 20 minutes of ordering them (there were only 3 tables taken at the moment) and because of this tremendous speed it arrived in dirty cups... Wine continued soon after (glasses were also dirty and stained, I assume because the service was so rushed to help us). As for the coffee itself, it was sour, undrinkable. The wait for the desserts continued up to 1 hour after ordering them... When they finally arrived, they were served with the pieces of paper that are used for easy storage but are meant to be removed before service. By the consistence of my dessert, I could see the pastry is made in the morning, maybe even on a different day, Hence, we were puzzled by the limited choice in a given timeframe. In the end, the desserts were refunded, because of the wait. Nonetheless, I cannot recommend this place to anyone, as it reflects a complete lack of respect for a customer. In Paris there are 7 other "Palace" status hotels with a wide range of restaurants and lounges, hence, luckily we have other places to hang out in style.

Yelp
Over the many years of visiting Paris, Le Bar at The Shangri La Hotel remains my favorite spot!! Francesco is a Master in making you feel welcome, relaxed and pampered!! Thank You!! The elegance, style, comfort and history of La Bar are like nothing else in the world, really!!
