13 Places to Eat and Drink That Are Literally Underground

"It started in 1755, when Marie Antoinette, who would soon become infamous for her indulgence, was born in Austria. Or perhaps, it started in 1844, when Brooklyn built the Atlantic Avenue railroad tunnel—the world’s first subway. Like the guillotined queen, the tunnel had a short life, functioning as an active train pathway for only 16 years. But also like the queen, it had a long, mythic afterlife: first, as a receptacle of rumored monster rats, then as part of a quirky Brooklyn tour, and now, as a Marie Antoinette–themed speakeasy. After it closed, the tunnel sat abandoned for years, until an intrepid engineer and history buff named Bob Diamond rediscovered it in 1980. He offered tours through a manhole until the city shut him down in 2010. Again, the tunnel was sealed off and abandoned. In 2014, Tarek Debira and Patricia Ageheim were renovating their Atlantic Avenue restaurant, Chez Moi, when Debira had an idea: Why not hammer through the basement wall? They both had a hunch that their property bordered part of the subway tunnel. So when Debira burst through the basement walls to reveal a hidden chamber, he knew he had hit on something special. Debira and Ageheim incorporated the space into a bar called Le Boudoir that is both literally and figuratively underground. Visitors to Chez Moi can access the bar through a fake bookshelf in the restaurant. Once below, they are greeted with a gilded world including rococo-style furniture, a Marie Antoinette bust that doubles as a drinks tap, an antique-style wooden toilet, and a doorknob from Versailles itself. Visitors can snack on crispy frog legs and truffle-mushroom croquettes while sipping cocktails such as the Rococo, flavored with oolong tea and kaffir lime, and the Smoke & Mirrors, flavored with blueberry-lavender cordial and bergamot. Visit Le Boudoir for lavish fun—or to hide out underground when the masses pull out the guillotine." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

Know Before You Go Reservations aren't needed (or allowed), though the small space might get crowded on weekend nights. Come Mondays for jazz. Update: As of July 2023, you can make reservations on Le Boudoir's website to make sure you snag one of the luxurious tables! There are 15-minute burlesque shows on the weekends, so make sure you arrive a little before they begin for the full experience (and bring cash for tips!)" - Reina Gattuso, piglet

The drinks were ok except for the root beer float which tasted like medicine. Did not look like the pictures online. Had a laid back vibe which I can appreciate but it was much different than we expected based on the website. The service was abysmal.

Went here on a whim as my friend and I were waiting for the July 4th traffic to die down. Was absolutely pleasantly surprised with how great it was! The atmosphere is wonderfully dark and romantic (perfect for a date), the burlesque performance was fun, and the staff was very nice and helpful. There is plenty of seating. These kinds of places make Brooklyn special. No line wrapping around the block, no pretentious bar staff, and no overzealous bouncers. I hope this place stay around for a very long time.

I went for the first time this past Saturday, Dec 28th, and I had an amazing time! The place is decorated beautifully, the bartender was really friendly, and created a new cocktail for the happy hour, that was unique and delicious, and the burlesque show was exquisite. I actually came here to see burlesque. There were two acts with a very talented dancer, who performed classic burlesque, one with feather fans, my favorite style. My only issue was the atmosphere between two acts, there was very loud club music playing between the acts, which in my opinion is not fitting speakeasy vibes at all. I couldn't hear my friends talking, but I didn't want to leave because I wanted to see the second burlesque act. If the music after the first act would be less loud/annoying, I wouldn't have taken one star off, it would've been a perfect speakeasy, with great service, cocktails and a show.

Google
Bottom line: intimate space with amazing mixology. Long line: this bar is absolutely awesome. Hidden away, I wasn't sure I was in the right place at first. Once inside, the bar has two separate areas (pictured) with one Victorian style one with velvet walls and old timey decorations and the other a brick basement. The drinks are intricate and numerous, and the two were tried were outstanding. Overall a great hang out spot and the prices were actually quite good for the area.

Google
Omg, SUCH a hidden gem! The staff is super nice and know so much about drinks (they're also all hot af, so be prepared for that, 🥵 lol) they made me something that wasn't on the menu and it was AMAZING! 'The Marchioness' was my fave, tho -- I wish I'd taken a pic! Food was super yummy -- small plates, though there's also a full restaurant upstairs, apparently. Super cute/cozy, perfect for date night or a girls night out. Can't wait to come back soon!!

Google
I had the same experience as many others in the comments. The burlesque show is great but its one really good dancer for 5 minutes. We were left disappointed, waited a 20-30 minutes in case another performance was coming that never came. The venue is cool and has that speakeasy vibe but the overselling of the show coupled with mid drinks overshadowed it.

Google
Peekaboo 🤩🤩 AND our sever (I apologize, I can't recall her name) were absolutely fantastic!!! Such a terrific evening with a beautiful decor! I can't wait to visit again!

Google
Only went to the bar here but can’t stop thinking about it, hence the review weeks later. Shame to admit, but had a few different spirited cocktails all concocted by Victor and T. I am very critical of cocktails, particularly in this area (ahem, Clover Club is not what it’s yoked up to be). You will get a top notch cocktail and welcome here. Only reason I haven’t gone back is dry January. Looking forward to February.

Yelp
Le Boudoir is the cutest! It's a downstairs speakeasy modeled after Marie Antoinette's own Boudoir in Versailles. The decor is adorable with tons of pink, pictures of Marie herself, and random art pieces like porcelain table stands shaped like ladies. I had the From Dusk Til Dawn drink which was super tasty (a bit sweet but still good) and came in a stainless steel glass to keep it super cold. My friend had the Tête-à-tête and loved it. We also shared the chocolate mousse. Great service and a bar I would return to over and over! Terrific spot for a girl's night.

Yelp
Very cute basement bar in Brooklyn Heights! We stumbled upon this for a 11:30 pm burlesque show on a Friday night. I really liked the space (a bit cramped, but good for intimate dancing) and the velvet benches; the service was a bit slow to get our drinks, but once we got our cocktails I thought they were all fantastic. Get yourself the Amadeus please - it's one of the best drinks I've had in NYC (Aquavit, Purple Corn Tea, and Pisco make up its base). The burlesque show was fun as the dancer was quite talented and the crowd enjoyed it; note it was less than 8 min I would say, so it's on the shorter end with only 1 performer. After that, there's a DJ who I thought was on the worse end I'd say, so we left shortly after dancing for a bit, but in terms of drink and space to talk, this place is solid.

Yelp
- enter through chez moi - the host will lead you behind a bookshelf down stairs, into the den - was empty on a rainy Friday night at 8pm - crowd started picking up around nine - there's a burlesque show on Friday and Saturday nights, 930 and 1130 - free wifi - good service - good background music good for conversations - good drinks - alright fries not many options in the food department, eat before you go, or plan to eat after - I like the dark environment

Yelp
Cool spot, I love the vibes. Big fan of speakeasies. We came on a Saturday night with reservations around 9pm. It wasn't packed and not sure if we needed one because by the time we left, two other booths were empty. Then again, it was kind of early. The burlesque show was fun! The dancer was great and had a pretty costume. There is a $7/pp entertainment fee added to the bill. We only stayed for one show but I think it's required to pay $7 per person per show. I don't drink alcohol but the waiter was accommodating when I asked for a mocktail ($6).

Yelp
Charming little speakeasy on Atlantic Ave. Went here for a friend's birthday and it was a really nice experience. We sat in the back room thats hidden away and it felt like we were in a cozy little cave. Very cool spot. Drinks were okay, I wasn't particularly impressed. I did not watch the burlesque show, but as others have mentioned, it was pretty short. The one thing that I wished was different is that the music is very loud and it's hard to have group conversations. This is definitely a place that I would consider in the future for a date night, but not sure that I'd go back with a group.

Yelp
What a find!! We were on our way to Floyd's next door when a server asked if we were going downstairs, and then we noticed a line of votive candles leading down into the darkness underground. The amount of room in the bar is incredible, and there is also a back room to boot. Came on a Friday night and there was a burlesque performance at 11:30 PM for $7 each.

Yelp
Adorable little place! We came right before the 9:30 burlesque and it was so worth it! the drinks were lovely and creative (and not too expensive for nyc). Our waiter was great as well. Will definitely be coming back.

Yelp
We stopped here after dinner at Chez Moi. This is a nice little speakeasy bar. We ordered a couple drinks. The service was good, and the drinks were good. They also had a burlesque dancer perform when we were there, which was a nice surprise.

Yelp
I'm all about a speakeasy situation and I was told that Le Boudoir was a destination I needed to check out. Cocktails and writing about them are part of my day job so I'm always on the hunt for some good choices. Le Boudoir is nestled in the basement of Brooklyn's Chez Moi restaurant (which I'd like to try out next time I'm there) and it's got the vibe you're looking for aside from being a little loud for a speakeasy. I get the sense they're trying to attract younger crowds and not those looking for a nook night date. The drinks were inventive, tasty, and delivered with care but the one-star ding is just for the noise levels. Bonus points for the late-night burlesque show. Very classy.

Yelp
Fabulous sexy bar with surprise burlesque shows at 9:45 and 11:30pm. I had a blast here dancing to hip music and the drinks were amazing. Not sure why it wasn't more packed but I had so much fun here. Definitely coming back for more burlesque performances - she was a showstopper! Would 100% recommend!

Yelp
Nice little French-themed cocktail bar below Chez Moi. Pros: - Excellent drinks at very reasonable prices by NY standards - Great service and recommendations from bartenders - Bookable private room is beautiful and private, with gorgeous exposed brick from the old Atlantic Ave terminal - Live jazz on Mondays - Quiet on a weeknight that allowed for conversation Cons: - Can't think of too many at the moment, although the day we were there we were the only patrons, which was kind of weird Definitely will be back to check out on days with live jazz or on weekends.

Yelp
Le Boudoir is that stunningly hot cocktail bar you take your stunningly hot date to in order to imbibe stunningly (cold) drinks. We got every cocktail on the second page and half the ones on the first including Dauphin, Guillotine (mezcal, scotch, banana and honey), and 1793 (toasted sunflower seed infused rye). Okay, in the interest of full disclosure, we got some of those drinks because of the wicked cool glasses they were served in. Food wasn't bad either--try the Croquettes, Pineapple Cake and Frog Legs in that order (kidding).

Yelp
Le Boudoir NY BK Cobble Hill 9pm Wednesday 5th October 2016 Four Stars Le Boudoir is a sexy underground cocktail bar with a French Renaissance look. We had a huge party and the server seemed a bit flustered and annoyed by us. For Cocktails, I had the 1793 which had Rye Infused with Toasted Sunflower Seeds, Oloroso Sherry, and Demerara. Tiffany had the Dauphin which contained Absinthe, Chile Liqueur, Almond Milk, Coconut, Cacao Nibs. The $13 cocktails were well prepared and worth the cost.

Yelp
This place has a super cool vibe with a hidden back cellar-looking place for a more intimate evening. My friend and I visited on a Wednesday evening so it was quiet but the vibe was cool. The decor is spot on for a speakeasy and the cocktail list is cool, as were the cocktails. Not many vodka options and their "specials" that were listed on the website were unavailable, which was a bummer, but overall a great spot for a lowkey cocktail. They have small food options which come from the restaurant upstairs, review on that to follow (Chez Moi.) The waiter was a bit odd but not in any negative way and like I said, the atmosphere was great. It's a great first date spot.

Yelp
My FAVORITE Speakeasy bar. I've been to quite a few in Manhattan but this one in Brooklyn is the best for me. Perfect way to impress a date/friend/significant other lol Exterior: It is the basement of Chez Moi, so when you go in just say you want to go to Le Boudoir. They will slide open the secret bookshelf door and let you right in. Interior: A very sexy, intimate, medieval, velvet kind of feel to it lol The bathroom is one of the best. Everything made of wood. Staff are also all very friendly and chill. Drinks: I want to try everything but below are my top 2 so far Phrygian Cap: I love whiskey, so if you also like whiskey get this lol Dauphin: Absinthe can taste great when mixed the right away and I believe this is the way. The presentation of this drink is great as well. Overall: Never had a bad time here, always had a place to sit down. The vibe is great and the music is low enough where you can have a great conversation. Drinks are all strong and tasteful. Favorite thing about this place is the glasses they use. Come here and check this place out.

Yelp
Cool speakeasy in the basement of Chez Moi. There's a private room you can book, which reminded me of a cheese cave, which goes with the French theme. Not sure how the wooden toilets fit in, but... Their cocktails are interesting, to say the least. I had the Epice, made with cantaloupe and jalapeno. The weird part was they let you choose from 4 different liquors (including vodka, mescal and brandy). Kind of weird to have a choose-your-own-adventure bar program, but I digress. I went with the brandy, and it was tasty. Speaking of tasty, they also serve light food here. Think fries, olives, cheese plates and pate. The duck liver mousse and chicken pate were delicious. Be forewarned that they have a bit of a dress code, but nothing too fancy. Just use your judgment.

Yelp
You can imagine my surprise and delight when an article called "Most Insane Restaurants" in Travel and Leisure magazine had this place listed right in my hometown of Brooklyn. Needless to say it was quickly added to my bucket list, and on a Saturday evening my partner in (travel) crime brought me here. The mysterious journey begins down steep winding stairs hidden behind a bookshelf ending in a dark, intimate, and romantic chamber with red velvet chaise, chairs and tables. A Steinway piano sits next to the chaise waiting to be caressed. The entire ambiance leaves you longing to slip into something much more sexy and comfortable (hint, hint guys). This bar mirrored after Marie Antoinette boudoir transports you to the late 1700's, waiting for her to walk through the door to host you. So why only three stars? While the ambiance and service were excellent, my drinks left me so disappointed. I had the sorcier (sp?) which tasted like a watered down RumChata drink. It had so much ice in a small goblet that I slurped once and it was gone. I then decided to play it safe and asked if they could make me a Moscow Mule which they accommodated with no problem but it was so horrible I had to send it back (even my friend agreed!). My last drink was a boring cranberry and vodka because I just needed to end the night at that point. I would give this place another try just because of the entire ambiance and cool theme behind it.

Yelp
Terrible experience! Got all dressed up and chose this location for our ladies night out: HUGE MISTAKE! Staff was incredibly rude and unprofessional-including a manager who yelled at his employees and his customers! We began our experience ordering cocktails, where I regrettably tipped 25% and we noticed some empty seats and sat down. Now, I have worked at Bar 65 at Rainbowroom so I know the expectation when we sat at the table and we all assumed that us sitting meant that we would be now receiving table service and we would be expected to order an additional purchase with a server.... well 45 min go by and NO SERVER!!!! No greeting, no water, nothing so we went back up to the bar to purchase another round. It was then that the "manager" yelled at us and his staff for taking our order at the bar, screaming that we had to order with the server (yep that one who never came) They then LOST my sister's CREDIT CARD and blamed us, saying we received it and that we were lying ... only to find it later behind their bar! BARTENDER NEVER APOLOGIZED for loosing the card or calling us liars. Manager blamed the music for his yelling and it "being a rough night" for his behavior. Having worked in the NYC service industry at some of the top establishments: I will say both 'excuses' are absolutely unacceptable. The lack of hospitality and accountability was shocking! You had three young business professionals ready and willing to have a great experience and spend money and we had a terrible time from start to finish... and all you can say is "it was a loud rough night?!" Glad to say we hopped over to a bar across the way and enjoyed the rest of our evening.... we will NEVER be back. Please train your management

Yelp
Big fan of Le Boudoir now. My friend from New Zealand actually saw a video on Facebook about this place and recommended it to me. The decor is interesting, the drinks were strong & unique, and the service was great. Would recommend this spot for a date or catch up with small groups of friends. Do get the Guillotine cocktail, you won't regret it. :)

Yelp
Absolutely AMAZING! One of the best or if not THE best secret places in Brooklyn.  I loved the decors inside, I like the idea that it is hard to find the place.  Deffenatly 5 starts for the service,  they are taking it to a different level!,   The presentation of each drink is great at its own way And the prices ARE very affordable, in average  $13 per drink. I will recommend it to all my friends

Yelp
4 stars is for the back room it's perfect! So cute, great for a small party, or intimate date. This hidden gem is a speak easy style bar. Their drinks are delicious but pricey for BK. I had the French 75. They offer a small menu, not much to choose from but all yummy that I tried. The staff was helpful and since our party showed up on a Tuesday night they weren't prepared. But the bartender did his best and sent a waiter down from the restaurant attached to help out.

Yelp
You get in through a bookcase in the upstairs restaurant so cheers to the speakeasy feel. You go through the bookcase and down the stairs and arrive here. It's a nice velvet red lounge- fairly small , can fit maybe six parties. The ambiance was dimly lit with an antique feel. The actually cocktails is why I docked this spot. They were just all right. I tend to expect exceptional cocktails at speakeasies. The drinks tend to run around 12-13 which I usually gladly pay for speakeasy caliber drinks. Tl;dr : Come for the ambiance but not for the drinks.
google avatar

Nadia Z.

Yelp
There are few speakeasy that got the spirit & atmosphere just right - Le Boudoir is one of them. There is sense of adventure entering hidden staircase behind the bookshelf, sense of naughtiness in lavish velvet decorations & masterfully crafted drinks. Everything is done with attention to little details - mirrors reflecting distressed paintings, rich red colors complimenting old style crystal cocktail glasses, warm dimmed lighting of the wall lamps sets up the mood... Beyond main sitting area with booths is hidden room, or the grotto, which is actually part of abandoned underground tunnel... You almost expect to catch a glimpse of Marie Antoinette's ghost in triple mirror there. Cocktails are complex & beautifully done. There are many to try - and snacks are served as well. Exquisite.
google avatar

Rachel L.

Yelp
Amazing little spot! Just make sure to ask when you get there where it is because I sat at the bar at the restaurant until I realized the menu didn't seem right. The Boudoir is red velvet and candles with lots of nooks and private spaces. This one drink came with a twig on fire!! I can't wait to go back to hear the live music.
google avatar

Dee G.

Yelp
This speakeasy-like lounge is absolutely beautiful, romantic, and has great energy. The coco drink is so delicious. A very diverse crowd comes here which I really loved. I went on a Monday night and the jazzy music was incredible. However, I do have to say the drinks are soooo expensive. I wish I could come here more often but paying $14-$20 a drink really sucks the fun out of this place. I would truly recommend lowering the prices. The area where it's located clearly has and will continue to gentrify which means a hike in rent prices - I get it but I still don't see why a drink should be upwards of $20.
google avatar

Marisa L.

Yelp
Very cute speakeasy spot. There are two entrances, you can go downstairs below the French restaurant or go through the restaurant and use a secret entrance that is a bookshelf. There are several velvet booths and the Decor is really authentic. There is a Marie Antoinette bust on the bar area. Nice selection of interesting cocktails and a few appetizers and desserts. The frog legs were some of the best I have ever had. I could have eaten a whole other order! The cheese plate was only OK, it came with just kind of regular wheat bread. The fries were decent as well. The server was friendly and they came around to fill your glass with water often. The bathroom was especially cute and funky with a very interesting set up. I would definitely come back but I imagine it would get crowded during prime time. I got here Friday around 6 o'clock and we were one of only a few tables taken.

Yelp
As devoted as we are to Chez Moi, we were excited to try their new, subterranean cocktail bar. I enjoyed the smoke and mirrors, which has a base of calvados, and was both bold, and delicate in all the right ways. The atmosphere was very grown up, and the service was impeccable. Sadly, we felt a bit to old to stay out late night, but it seemed that they were preparing for a great party that evening!

Yelp
So my boyfriend has gone to the restaurant Chez Moi many times. I had dinner at Chez Moi for the first time (9/12/19) and enjoyed myself. The waitress was attentive and our meal was fine. We learned about Le Boudoir and made plans to go soon. That day came and we went to Le Boudoir on a Sunday evening (9/22/19). Le Boudoir and Chez Moi have the same address. I assumed I could enter this great speakeasy through the restaurant. The speakeasy opens at 6pm and I entered Chez Moi a little after. I asked the bartender if Le Boudoir was opened. He smiled, laughed and said you are only 8 minutes late. It was 6:08pm. I went further into the restaurant and asked a busboy where I should go to enter Le Boudoir. He pointed towards the kitchen. I was a bit surprised but I thought, well, it is a speakeasy so there must be a secret entrance. I asked him for further clarification. Do I make a left or right once I enter the kitchen? He walked me to the kitchen and spoke spanish to the employees working in the kitchen. They all pointed to a staircase that led me to the basement. I knocked on a door that had a sign that said "knock before you enter." I knocked and there was no answer. I eventually just opened the door and the bartender looked at me with a very surprised look. I asked if I was in Le Boudoir and he responded with a yes. He still had a puzzled look on his face and asked me why I was coming through the back door. I explained what happened and he chuckled nervously and apologized for the staff. It turns out, the staff (Bartender & busboy) mistook me for help in the kitchen or some sort of server. I was a bit confused because I was in a dress and full makeup. How could they mistake me for this?? I chuckled as well and asked the bartender if there were any other Black employees that were scheduled to start at 6pm? He chuckled and apologized again. I never heard from management or anyone else about the incident. The drinks were great. The bartender, who was the only professional person regarding my incident, was attentive and made great drinks. The Tete a tete was very refreshing. We ordered the Croquette, Fries, and Charcuterie. The Croquette had a nice salty taste to it and the fries were fine because we drank so much. We did not like the pate and liver mousse. It was very dry and looked like it came straight from a can. Which is possible but it was this block and tasteless. Needless to say, after my "VIP" entry into Le Boudoir, I will not be going back. Even if I go through the separate entrance. I prefer to go to places that recognize me as a paying customer, not THE HELP.

Yelp
Their cocktail creations, groovy interior, and nice service all make this place a very legit speakeasy. We were there shortly after 6pm, so it was nice & quiet and didn't get too busy even when we left around 8pm. They have a nice list of cocktails and we shared everything amongst the 4 of us - 2 rounds. They were all "good." And $13 sounds like a decent deal, compared to $15+ prices in Manhattan. However, none of those drinks were really booze-forward (and I'm a light weight). Even the ones with whiskey or bourbon were lacking in the flavors of those base alcohol. Also, many drinks come with so much ice. After not feeling like we have had 2 rounds of cocktails, my husband finally requested a more whiskey-forward drink (w a few ingredient options). And what the bar person came up with was fantastic. Just too bad that what they have on the menu, though they are well received by many ppl, left us feeling something was lacking... PS Good fries

Yelp
Walked into Chez Moi, and asked the welcoming bartender about Le Boudoir. He played into the mystery of this little speakeasy, and coyly asked, "What? Le Boudoir?" After our brief tete-a-tete, he smiled and pointed me to the door behind the host stand. No reservation? No problem. There are a few seats at the bar and along the wall as well as a bit of standing room, but once a booth is vacated, you're seated fairly quickly depending the queue. We didn't have to wait very long before this happened. The bar itself is themed after Marie Antoinette's chambers, and it's cute. The contemporary music tends to take you out of it, but it helps keep the atmosphere more lively than stuffy. The drinks menu is divided into the Inner Circle (lighter drinks) and the Outsiders (more alcohol-forward). I opted for something lighter after a heavy dinner and ordered the Du Barry. A perfect summer drink, it was fruity without being overly sweet. For the men whose manhood are easily offended by certain glassware, this one comes in a frilly glass. My friend ordered the Epice with gin, and it was much more interesting. The celery bitters gave it a very herby kick, which is or isn't some people's thing. Overall, this is a good neighborhood spot that's nice to have in your back pocket for certain occasions or out-of-towners. I'm not sure it begs repeat visits otherwise but definitely worth checking out.

Yelp
Really neat space tucked away in a secret hideout. Drinks are delicious... we came in ready to have one and leave and ended up having 3 and some snacks along with it. Bartender, Mark, was fun, a great conversationalist, and super fast with his service too!

Yelp
I have been here four times (live in the neighborhood) and always disappointed. It's a cool space, but the drinks have never been impressive - lots of sweet cocktails that don't feel very spirit-forward. Twice I have had very poor service. One time the drinks took almost an hour and the waiter had clearly been drinking and dropped my drink on the ground. Maybe I'll give it another chance sometime, but for now there are other great cocktail bars in the area I would go to first. The drinks need to be the anchor for a bar like this - having a fun, trendy decor may be enough to bring in tourists sometimes but isnt enough to keep me coming back consistently.

Yelp
One word. SEXY! This place is definitely something different. I've been to a lot of bars and lounges that have been, you know, "the usual" but this place not only is it in a basement, but secluded, music is AMAZING. I was there this past weekend and they played all the best oldies, from George Michael, to freestyle, etc..... it's dark and velvety. Red velvet to be exact. It's somewhat small but a great place to get away and dance. Unfortunately I have no pictures to share because it's always dark lol.

Yelp
Beautiful venue, classy drinks and a flair for the romantic. We went on election night to pretend our country wasn't sinking under an accumulation of ego. Except for a Portuguese lady yelling into her phone, we were the only ones there to enjoy the solitude of political ignorance. In reality, it was a late birthday celebration for two and a handful of crickets. Delightful and intimate. Thumbs up.

Yelp
Drinks: 4.5 Decor: 4.5 Ambiance: 5 Service: 5 Value: 5 This is a really cool little gem. Prices are well under what you would expect for a renowned cocktail in NYC. The drinks are delicious, and the vibe is really fun. Service is great as well. Only thing I would change would be the early 80's mostly cheesy soundtrack.

Yelp
Brought the wife here. Very laid back and romantic. Seating is limited so arrive at the right time. Drinks were amazing. Staff was friendly. Couldn't find the place at first. Walked in Chez Moi and was lead downstairs to Le Boudoir.

Yelp
If you're in the area, this is a quaint spot to visit. We popped in after having pizza near the water. They have a piano but no one was playing it - would be nice if they did. Cocktails are nicely made and presented in glassware that takes you back to the age of Marie Antoinette (the goal of the location). We tried the sparkling rose (standard) and the Dubarry cocktail (slightly too sweet for my liking which was surprising given it's made with bourbon) but nice. They have limited bar seating, some booths, and a few couches. Lighting is intimate. Bathrooms are a bit interesting but perhaps I'm just put off by wooden toilet seats... some things don't need to be 'authentic'.

Yelp
The atmosphere of this place is super cool. Also the entrance through a book case in the main resteraunt is a nice touch. Now for the drinks. The first time I went I had just cocktails. They were okay. The presentation is amazing with goblets and fancy glasses. The drinks however missed the mark for me in flavor and uniqueness. They were not bad, however. Fast forward a few months. Huge difference. They had more drinks on the menu and some new ones. They were excellent. I can't remember the names but every one was perfectly balence and unique. So I will definitely be back. In addition I believe they have live music. Also the fact they are using a real piano versus a keyboard like some spots is a plus. Finally the second time I tried the food. It was so good!! The "frogs legs" were delicious. So definitely give this place a try if you are in the area.

Yelp
Looking for a speakeasy, well look no further. It's a little off the beat and path, but totally worth the walk. Vibe is very nice, music is good, and Mark makes great drinks! Going to check this place out again very soon.

Yelp
Beautiful decor, classy drinks, but inattentive staff. Came here with female coworkers and our client on a Monday night to listen to music. It was pretty nice at first and the drinks were pretty good. We were basically ignored by the waitress, taking 45 min with all three of us trying to flag her down to get the check. Seems like we were in her blind spot. Also, really COLD inside this basement so bring a coat!

Yelp
Great little speakeasy spot in a trendy area of Brooklyn. I had dinner at Chez Moi the previous week and spotted Le Boudoir as were were heading home but promised to check it out another time and that time came literally within a week. 4 of us arrived at the bar before 10pm. The place wasn't very busy and we got greeted by a friendly mixologists behind the bar. A lovely waitress escorted us to a nice table. I ordered the chilli vodka cocktail which was truly delicious with a creamy texture and a little kick of spice. My friends however decided to be traditional and asked for espresso martinis off the menus. Mixologist agreed to make them however it's taken them at least 15min to do that. The very sweet waitress apologised for the delay and explained that they had to fetch coffee from their restaurant upstairs or something like that. It seemed to us that they travelled to South America to do so...Cocktails were very good though therefore we ordered another round which came much quicker this time. The space is very stylish and lighting dimmed. Despite a slightly slow start we still though the service was very good. Sadly they don't accept Amex just so you're aware. We shall return.

Yelp
Recently visited Le Boudoir for a friends Birthday. This place is swanky-ish...set up is different for Brooklyn, and I liked it. We were situated on the lower level in the private room, and honestly that was cool. The AC was pumping high, the waitress was pleasant and friendly! Very accommodating staff to say the least. I had 2 glasses of wine. Didn't have the opportunity to try the food, but I'll be back to.

Yelp
I was excited about visiting this spot and am leaving completely disappointed. My guest waited over 45 minutes for a seat in the lounge and when we were sat, received service so mediocre, it's an overstatement. One of the servers was a sweetheart but incessantly asked us what more we wanted after having order wine, cocktails, food and snacks. The cocktail was beyond underwhelming and the best beverage I had was the Lambrusco by the glass. Overall, I just can't fairly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great night out in Brooklyn.

Yelp
I already called for reservation, but the guy said first come first served. Why I arrived there I couldn't get the table for all night even if they have many table are available? Why I just sat no longer than 9:00pm!! Waitress, tall and long hair is very nice, the other I think they pick customer by nationality or appearance!! Moreover, the cocktail is so so. Im so disappointed.

Yelp
Amazing amazing amazing! Would recommend 10000% the hospitality is great, went for my 21st birthday and wow! The bar tender and the waitress/ server was honestly the best! Treated us like family and made us feel at home. Loved the asthetic of the place. This place is definitely worth it

Yelp
A great speakeasy modeled after Marie Antoinette's hidden room in Versailles. They have live jazz on Mondays and a DJ on the weekends. Red velvet couches and dim buffet lamp lighting make the scene. One of the best bars I've been to in NYC. Make reservations first. They have a nice private section in the back, try to reserve that for a group of ten and under.

Yelp
Had a lovely evening here after eating at the French restaurant upstairs (Chez Moi). The vibe is a really fun take on Marie Antoinette's boudoir. The dark, cavernous vibe and the dark red velvet settees really pay-off the feeling. The Monday night we were there, a band was playing some perfectly appropriate 30s jazz band style music, but using hits from throughout time. We had a lovely evening and will definitely go back. They also have a neat back room that would be good for a gathering of 10-12 people. Apparently it has some old MTA related history.

Yelp
Tucked under Chez Moi, through a bookshelf door filled with red books, down a steep set of winding stairs, is a buried, not-so-secret hideout filled with strange cocktails, metal chalices, and plush velvet booths. On a Thursday, after waiting at the bar upstairs for 15 minutes, we were told our table was ready and were led downstairs. The crowd is eclectic, mostly local, and the ambiance is somewhere between elegant, private mansion basement bar and buzzing, kitschy, red speakeasy. On this particular night the staff timed the seating so that the room was perfectly alive and intimate. The menu is extensive, including some expensive bar snacks, but it seems people come here for the cocktails, served in a variety of metal and glassware. There are about 20 drinks, made from relatively innovative and enticing combos of absinthe, tequila, sherry, rum, sunflower seed infused whiskey, and varieties of vermouth, and crafted just about perfectly. I ordered The 1793, the one with the sunflower seed infused rye and sherry, and could instantly appreciate the odd but perfectly matched parts. The place is exceedingly cool, drinks are cocktail priced, all around $13, service is outstanding, and there is live music on Mondays. But the reasons I will go back are the refined yet immediately comfortable atmosphere, and a crowd that makes it a slightly surreal, comfortable escape from whatever you need to get away from upstairs.
