How You Can Experience 1920s Paris Today

"I love the small, intimate Le Caveau des Oubliettes in the Latin Quarter — an ex-wine cave dating back centuries — and it's my favorite of the three jazz clubs mentioned." - Matthew Kepnes

Vibes are great. Students get a discount to 5€ - cash only!! And going during happy hour before the first show is a great way to save money with their drink requirement per set.

Came here with a group! 30 eur per person for 1 welcome drink, 1 glass of wine and planche (to share between 2) This place actually has AC when it's super hot out! I've been here twice now and love the place ! It's less touristy with the famous caveat de la hachette across the street. This one's much more chill and calm. (No space for dancing like the other one) But for me personally it's more pleasant to be in. Highly recommend 👏

Amazing bar staff, creative and delicious drinks. Amazing and unique music performance space, with great sound and atmosphere. Weekly jam event schedule makes an amazing place for musicians to meet and perform. Apparently a lot of the Snarky Puppy guys used to come here and play at the jams, and now I understand why. Highly recommendedz

Wouldn't go back but an interesting experience. We were lucky and didn't have to wait long to get in, only about 30 minutes and we got spots inside at the bar (the waitress did a wonderful job managing people outside and inside while keeping track of everything, maybe put a sign on the door so that groups do not walk in when there is not space) . We bought a drink and before we went down for the music, they made us buy another (even though we still clearly had half left). We also payed for tickets though not expensive (5-10€). Music was good but atmosphere was lacking, no dancing room and crowd was not giving any energy (perhaps go somewhere else if you are looking for a livelier crowd).

I loved it! There was a free concert, “what the funk”, and the band was absolutely extraordinary… the atmosphere was incredible! The waiters were ready to help us pick the best seats in the underground cellar, and were very open (we had changed minds twice already and were still welcomed)

Google
Wonderful rock-type jazz experience, good volume, and overall excellent performance by each of the band members. A bit tight to fit and find a good seat, i recommend making a reservation by sending a message early and getting there before 8:45pm, given the first set starts at 9:15. Been waiting to come here for a while, gonna bring a girl here too.

Very nice jazz bar! People were listening to jazz a bit seriously, so it’s hard to chat during the session. And the space was limited so might be better not be late for the start of the session. Entrance fee costs 8euros per adult and 5 per student. Beers are 11 euros per pint. Update: the atmosphere really depends on the session. You may find your favourite one.

Yelp
What a fantastic place to go on my first night in Paris. I love blues and rock and roll. I don't get enough of it in Long Beach CA. This was an adventurous choice as so well worth it. I recommend it highly.

Yelp
My favorite club in Paris. Very small "cave" downstairs with live music, usually blues / jazz / funk. Good musicians and sound. Get there early (upstairs in the "Guillotine") as there's only about 12-15 tables in the cellar. Great vibe and music - again, my favorite in the city for the last 20 years. Here's a taste: Nawfel live at the "Cave" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_mbA1q4_6aI

Yelp
"Le Caveau des Oubliettes" translate to English as "The Dungeon Vault". In America, this place is a fire hazard. In France, the locals converted this underground cellar into a small music venue. You can feel the A/C running, but it still gets warm and muggy when it gets crowded, and it will get crowded on a Friday or Saturday. We were looking for Jazz, but instead we got a Led Zeppelin cover band, which was really really really loud in this dungeon vault. After sweating and feeling claustrophobic in this semi-sauna after 3 songs, my friends and I left. We might have stayed longer if it was a jazz night. The ground floor is just a bar and a couple tables with no view of the band, but at least you don't claustrophobic. NO COVER CHARGE! But "The Most Expensive Beer of Yelp Elite Chun P's life was purchased here"...€11 Beer pint...not sure what it was, it good, but the most expensive beer of my life! $14.30...never paid that much for a beer back in America. €7 glasses of red wine for the wife and friends...but I think my beer was 3 times larger in volume than these wine glasses.

Yelp
Cute little bar with an intimate venue downstairs. Came here for some live music during our last night in Paris. All of the bartenders and staff were kind and welcoming and the band was great! Geraldine Delacoux had a beautiful voice that filled up the room with feeling. Other patrons were also pretty laid back. Not pretentious, not crazy, just there to have a good time.

Yelp
The tiny jazz bar downstairs has a lovely atmosphere and the whole place would be lovely were the drinks not so inflated that they put you off even being there. I'd rather just pay to get in and then not pay 11 quid for a slightly rubbish cocktail... If you want to go, go early as it gets absolutely packed before the music even starts.

Yelp
I feel so lucky to have found this place randomly while searching the internet for off the beaten path things to do in Paris. You would never guess from the upstairs bar, which is really quite small and depressing, that downstairs is a wine cellar which is like a stone cave where we saw a French band playing American blues. We loved every second of this experience. No cover charge and as tourists we really didn't mind paying a couple of extra Euros for the drinks. If you are visiting Paris and love music, please come here. I don't know if this is a place where the locals actually go, but it just feels so much cooler to do something like this and get out of the tourist traps for a night.

Yelp
A wonderful wee bar in the heart of the best area in Paris. Jazz is not for everyone but listening to it downstairs is not compulsory. Notice the grass on the floor and see if you can get a cheeky wee tour of the real (and hidden) depths of the caves below... an insight into a former age and a different way of life. Perhaps not everyone's cup of tea, but I love it. PS: Love the old print above the bar...

Yelp
I was there in June 2015 but this place has an everlasting memory...it was such a cool place that I've recommended it to so many people!! The acoustic was amazing...there was a blues band from Chicago that night. Drinks are expensive but considering you don't have to pay a cover charge to hear great music, it's worth it.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite places to see live jazz. It is definitely one of the more unique places to see a show. Set in an old dungeon, this underground club is small and can get crowded, but we loved it and can't wait to get back. I highly recommend this venue for a live jazz show. We were lucky enough to see Boney Fields live here and it was a truly awesome and unique experience.

Yelp
Don't know why this would be panned in French. Yes it's crowded, yes it's expensive, but there's a real ****ing guillotine on the top floor, and the jazz is about as intimate and fun as it gets. Smoky, rollicking and good times. Make the trek one night and you'll see--just get there early.

Yelp
Visited this place on a whim during a pub crawl through Paris with friends and I absolutely loved it! The live music and the setting are what makes this place. I visited on Blues night and the musicians were entertaining, talented, and chill. Will definitely go back, even though the price of drinks is steep (I mean, c'mon...it is Paris...)

Yelp
Stumbled upon this gem while touring around Paris. GREAT music. Crazy acoustics! Lots of fun.

Yelp
Too expensive to be worth it. The mood is cool, until the giant bartender forces you to purchase the highly overpriced beverages.

Yelp
Head downstairs in this tiny bar and you'll find an even tinier jazz club set in a 12th century cave. The lack of cover charge is balanced by very Parisian-priced drinks, but selection is decent. Gigs usually start around 10pm and because it's so small it fills up very fast, so arrive a little early on weekends or you won't get in. Expect a lot of ex-pats - not a good place to meet locals. The jazz isn't anything too special, but the atmosphere makes for a nice evening.

Yelp
You won't be at all impressed by the bar but it's the jazz club downstairs that makes this place special. The quality of the music varies and you find more locals off tourist season. But if you go there in time to grab a place there is something about this little club that will certainly seduce you.
