The New Business Traveler: Vineyard-Hopping in France With Natural Wine Importer Jenny Lefcourt

"When we stopped back in Paris before flying home, we stayed at a little hotel called Le Citizen overlooking Canal St. Martin, which was close to where I lived when I was a student in Paris."

"Perfect for exploring the trendy 10 th arrondissement, Le Citizen Hotel overlooks the Canal Saint-Martin, footsteps from where Amélie skipped stones in the French movie of the same name. The location is convenient for walking or using public transportation to get to famous sites, but why leave this gentrifying neighborhood? The restaurants and shops have become a boho magnet, and the monuments, such as Henry IV’s early 17th-century Hospital St Louis (built to treat victims of theplague), offer much beauty and history without the tourists. Narrow guestrooms have multiple windows and are laid out to take advantage of canal views. The design sensibility is Nordic, with bright colors, pale woods, and modular furniture. If you didn’t bring an iPad, the hotel offers loaners."

Amazing time here while visiting for work. From the moment I arrived Chaim was so personable, super attentive, and made excellent recommendations! Really made the trip 10x more enjoyable. The room was spacious and stylish and was in a great area with plenty of nice places to eat around. Will stay there again.

The rooms are great, modern and clean. The hotel is currently under renovation (the lobby), but that does not change how friendly the staff is, attention to your needs, and delicious croissants and pain au chocolat in the morning. The location is prime! Highly recommend and cannot wait to come back for the New-York style pizza and coffee shop! Thank you again

Great Location, But Lacking in Service and Communication The hotel is well-located, but unfortunately, the service and communication left much to be desired. During my stay, part of the hotel was under renovation, which meant there was no designated breakfast area. Guests were expected to either stand in the hallway or have breakfast in their rooms. It would have been appreciated if this inconvenience had been communicated beforehand. My room was small and cozy, but noise was an issue. I was woken up several times during the night by a mechanical noise resembling a water pump coming from the building. Additionally, communication with the staff was frustrating. Despite requesting an invoice under my company’s name both in advance and several times after my stay, I never received it. Overall, while the location is excellent, the lack of clear communication and service issues significantly impacted my experience.e

Very good customer service and flexibility with changing travel arrangements. Also in an excellent location in Paris - highly recommend for tourists especially to see a unique neighbourhood that is not too touristic.

Great hotel with friendly and helpful staff, situated on a quiet street near a canal with lots of nice little shops, cafes and the metro. Not the most spacious rooms for bigger families, however they’re equipped with everything you need from a coffee machine to a steamer, along with small terraces with an amazing view of the canal (great for people watching;). They’re also quite comfortable with a modern, clean design.

Great little hotel in a wonderful location on the Canal St. Martin. We stayed in one of the larger rooms, which was wonderfully spacious by Paris hotel room standards. Bar downstairs was a great place to take a coffee or grab a light breakfast. Area is just wonderful -- delightful little park across the canal, lovely local stores, restaurants, bars and boulangeries. Close to much of the right bank tourist areas [Le Marais, Pompidou, etc.] without feeling awash in tourists.

We stayed in the Le petite for our first night in Paris. Small room for sure, but has all you need. Reception was super friendly. Bed was very comfy. The location couldn’t get any better for walking around. Tons of stuff nearby. We had a rental car and parked in the hospital parking garage nearby. Just FYI- it doesn’t open until a litter after 5:30am. We couldn’t get in to get our car when we tried before then. Will be back if we’re in this area again!

Perfect for a "petit escapade" and for knowing a beautiful part of Paris, without the wave of tourists You could really feel french, safe, stylish and 10 years younger. 😊 Quite a millennial feell to it. And this is mostly because of the lovely, attentive, casual , interesting chats, and funny employee like Chaim. But also the atmosphere of the hotel showed all of that feel impersonated on the simple and cosy design details. Really, really loved it. And the channel saint martin and the Marais is the perfect place to stay in Paris. Thank you Chaim!! Thank you Paris!

Yelp
What a quaint hotel, love it. I arrived in the rain, at night, so navigating to the hotel was not as easy.....only after not finding an entrance, did I enter through restaurant...which is what I was supposed to do I guess. I loved the room I was in...an older bldg on the corner overlooking the canal. I had breakfast included in my stay...and I had my favorite croissant with scrambled eggs...and coffee. This hotel was a 4 min walk to the office and I am going to tell all my colleagues about it. The also have amazing amenities...that smell good! It is run by women and so that alone makes me very happy!

Yelp
I traveled to Paris in June for a week and a half trip with my boyfriend. We stayed at 3 different hotels throughout the span of the trip and Le Citizen was my absolute favorite. We were supposed to stay 4 days but ended up extending the stay here because the room and entire staff was just too great. We stayed in one of the Zen suites that overlooked out onto the canal. We were on the 5th floor so we were high enough for a pretty good view out our windows. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. If you call down before 11am you can have complimentary breakfast pastries delivered to your room. On our last day we had breakfast crepes which were crazy good! They also offer a free ipad for the room and complimentary mini bar. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a non touristy location in Paris. There are so many great restaurants and bars within walking distance and you can even sit out on the canal with all the locals and drink beer and wine all night. I will be back one day for sure!

Yelp
I could not believe there were more reviews about this fab boutique hotel on Yelp, let alone Trip Advisor. Just for fun: http://ow.ly/tuH1w Anyhow, did I ever mention how kind the owner was? I got lost at the Lourve of all places and the front desk called Le Citizen. She answered the phone and asked to talk with me. I told her that I lost my partner to which she kindly replied, "I'm so sorry. Would you like me to send a car to get you back home?" Home? Home is Le Citizen? Oh, more like heaven. And the next day there was homemade strawberry conserve. I'm going back there some day. I hope I never get lost.

Yelp
Situated directly facing the bustling Canal St. Martin, Le Citizen is a little jewel box of a hotel with incredibly efficient and friendly service. We had one of the Zen Suites with a line of windows opening onto the Canal. So many shops and restaurants within walking distance of the hotel that we were so sad to only have 1 night here.

Yelp
We loved this hotel. The staff was wonderful and helpful. On arrival we were upgraded to one of the suites that overlooked the canal. The view was beautiful. The room was clean, nicely designed and very comfortable. The breakfasts were great, a lovely way to start the day. It is one of the nicest hotels we have stayed at anywhere... small, attentive staff and well designed. We have been to Paris many times and stayed in different areas of the city. This was our favorite location so far. So many wonderful restaurants and cafes, and so close to the Marais as well. We loved the Canal and the parks along it, even in winter it is beautiful. Will stay there again!

Yelp
We just stayed for 3 days. The staff were all friendly and helpful -- particularly Eric. He suggested and arranged for dinner reservations at wonderful neighborhood restaurants. The hotel is adorable, the breakfasts are delicious. The metro is close and the neighborhood is off the beaten path and refreshingly real. Would probably reserve one of the larger rooms -- the smallest is really small, but manageable if you like your roommate!
