17 Best Hotels in the South of France

"When chef Christophe Baquié, formerly at the Hotel & Spa du Castellet, decided to hang up his apron and explore something new, he and his wife Alexandra found the postcard-perfect Provencal farmhouse surrounded by fruit orchards and an olive grove that would offer the extreme opposite of a Relais & Châteaux mega-resort experience. At Le Mas des Eydins, hidden away in a valley near Bonnieux, there are only five rooms, one suite and one studio; similarly, dining is an intimate affair with ten tables and one nightly fixed menu. The concept: to be closer to guests, like a maison de famille, with the added perk of utter peace, save rustling leaves and whirring cicadas. Nothing beats lounging at the dreamy pool beside a fragrant lavender field, but there’s also plenty to do and see in the Luberon. The spacious neo rustic rooms, designed by Alexandra, are a restful mix of grey, taupe and white, with exposed beam ceilings. Come dinnertime, Baquié serves an exquisitely refined six-course feast (plus tantalizing amuse-bouche tidbits and mignardises) to celebrate Provence—“modern” aioli with octopus, courgette flowers, lamb, langoustine, plus a cornucopia of local cheeses, cherries, strawberries, wild fennel, chocolate-olive madeleines, plus homemade elderberry sake to be savored under the stars. Perfection. Wonderful location, very cozy and well-decorated room, very friendly welcome, excellent and varied breakfast (definitely worth its price, add it if it's not included). Very nice garden with a nice pool. Beautiful views over the valley. The little town is also wonderful. Very quiet, perfectly clean. Private and easy parking. This was one of the highlights of our stay. Thanks for the outstanding hospitality, highly highly recommended!

Traditional Provençal small hotel in beautiful location and welcoming service. We stayed for one night and wished we had booked for more. The manager warmly greeted us and gave us some local tips. Our room was the one with the hats! Very clean and comfortable but other rooms probably had better views. The pool and garden are very peaceful. Breakfast is excellent with a real French family feel as the owners had an old friend call by. Views from the breakfast room are stunning. A real gem!

We absolutely loved our 10 day stay at le Clos Du Buis - the owners/managers were fabulous - we had an amazing suite with views overlooking the valley and an outdoor terrace. The location is perfect, with parking and a pool and garden, and access to a kitchen. Breakfasts were simply the best we have had anywhere. Probably our favourite stay anywhere. Will definitely go back! Can't wait for next year.

This is a very charming b&b in the heart of Bonnieux. I gave four stars for the room because we were in an annex room across the street. The studio Leonie was perfectly fine, it's not one of their best rooms but it's very reasonably priced. You can stay in a room with a fantastic view of the valley if you are on the main property. However, you can have breakfast in their gorgeous breakfast room even if you're staying in the annex which is $15 a person. The studio room has a full kitchen. The shower was very good! There is no closet but there is a wall area with a rack and a few hangers that you can hang your things on. You are walking distance to quite a few good restaurants. If you stay in the annex, you're not entitled to park in the parking lot, but we did not find it a problem as there is plenty of free parking in Bonnieux.

I've stayed at Le Clos du Buis several times over the years dating back to 1997 including most recently in September 2024. Every stay has been an entirely enjoyable and memorable one. ||Pierre has done a wonderful job over the years of improving and maintaining a traditional Provencal B&B with beautiful and thoughtful interiors, an idyllic back garden and pool, modern bathrooms and wifi, comfortable beds and beautiful linens, a variety of traditional breakfast choices, and parking. Every time I've stayed at Le Clos du Buis it has been clean, very well maintained, with everything in perfect working order. The B&B also offers spectacular views of the Luberon valley and Mt. Ventoux.||More than that, Pierre, Sophie, and Celine have always been friendly and helpful with any questions and providing a tour of the B&B and all the amenities and have helped make our stay an enjoyable one every time.||I highly recommend Le Clos du Buis for anyone looking for an enjoyable and memorable stay at one of the best B&Bs in Provence.

Sophie & Celine make sure one feels at home at this small lovely family run hotel and the personal touch began with an email exchange. The location is great right in Bonnieux within walking distance of everything. They were fully booked on the three nights we wanted to stay there this September, but offered us an apartment across the road combined with the facilities of the hotel. The apartment is an excellent choice. Plenty of space for two of us, very well equiped with everything one could possibly ask for and super clean. The tiny balcony overlooks the spectacular gardens and swimming pool of the hotel and the breathtaking scenery of the Luberon in the distance. The friendliness and attention to detail of the staff is remarkable. We certainly plan to come back and thank you for the wonderful hospitality. The photos include the views from our apartment, Bonnieux and the Friday market just steps away.

One of the best hotels I’ve stayed in! Rooms were excellent and the view over the valley cannot be beat. Staff was also extremely nice and helpful. Bonnieux is such a charming small town with great restaurants and is just enough off the beaten path to not be crowded.

Le Clos Du Buis is our first stop in the Luberon trip and we are not disappointed by the stay. From arriving our host Pierre has made every effort to ensure we are well look after. Hotel itself is impeccabily clean, super tasteful and no small detail is overlooked. A fully (I mean really fully) equipped kitchen means we get to enjoy a bit of cooking ourselves living like the locals. Ample parking space too right next to the hotel. Location-wise Bonnieux is the perfect middle spot for any Luberon / Provence adventure. I recommend without reservation.

Yelp
Superb! A tremendous place to stay! It's charming, comfortable, and all the staff are wonderful! It may be the best Bed and Breakfast (B & B) type inn we have ever stayed at. Pierre, the owner, was always available to help with breakfast, directions, anything. Sophie was delightful, funny, service-conscious in French or English. She was fun! Céline, Pierre's daughter, was similarly friendly and very helpful. The inn has everything any traveler could need: a scrumptious buffet breakfast each morning, a guest kitchen with a fridge and light cooking facilities, a clothes washer and dryer, a swimming pool, and a very pretty rear patio and yard for relaxing. Wifi was always working, another plus. Our room on the ground floor, "Provence", was very comfortable, with an enormous modern bathroom with both a tub and shower, as well as its own window/door exit to the street. We loved our 5 days here and recommend Le Clos du Buis to anyone considering visiting the Luberon area. The village percé of Bonnieux is perhaps the most pretty of all the hilltop villages in the area. If we are in the area in the future, we would definitely come back to Le Clos du Buis. 10 stars!!!
