We visited this hotel during the high season (Christmas) and were a bit shocked with the quality of service we received.
I would start with the pleasant part: the location is amazing, right in the center. The reception area (breakfast/cafe) was very beautiful, modern - probably newly renovated.
Now to the shortfalls:
Unfortunately, we forgot to book the parking slot, so ended up parking 20 min away from the hotel in a very dodgy area (there was no other parking available and the staff of the hotel literally didn't even care. They gave the common parking names that we already saw while driving which were all full). It is a shame for a hotel that charges quite a lot to have only 10 paid/dedicated parking spots. We were so scared to leave the car there that had to walk at midnight to the spot where we parked and change the place.
The service is definitely lacking the human touch - the reception staff does what is required and nothing more.
The standard room is old/outdated and TINY (judging by the reception area you would think that the rooms are also beautiful and fresh but NO). We heard every single person passing the hallway.
Last but not least, the person working at the cafe at the reception served us the "best" "hot chocolate" in the world (#sarcasm) - he brought hot water in the cup, put the cacao powder on the table and a pot of sugar - people call it DIY. We joked about it upon checkout and were offered a proper one.
To summarize: we loved Colmar , but we will definitely not visit it again during Christmas as it feels like a tourist trap in that season, and looks like the hotels take the full advantage out of it.
