Google
Classic French experience. Our waitress was fluent in English and made navigating the menu effortless. Also, the restaurant is in an absolutely beautiful neighborhood, and adjacent to the oldest patisserie in the city of Paris.

French onion soup was incredible. Escargots and steaks were good. Profiterole was different from the usual. Very crowded but service was friendly, prompt and attentive.

Google
Great location in heart of Paris. Fun atmosphere. Well crafted dishes. Manager works in restaurant very well and our waiter had great sense of humour - we agreed, pepper jack is not a proper cheese 😊 but hope one day he tastes brie and camembert made by french using french technique in Wisconsin when he visits his French friend near Madison (the only USA state to require license to make cheese!). Merci!!!👏

Google
It was very busy when we were there. The waiter was short with my husband when asking for water. Otherwise the service waa fine. The ravoli with truffle sauce was superb, the chicken supreme delicious, but the ham and cheese coquillettes (mac and cheese) was very dry.

Google
Super cute spot not far from main attractions. A little on the pricier side, but the portions are decently sized. Very much enjoyed some classic French food (I’m American), and the servers were very attentive.

Deep dive in an amazing parisian café Three different breakfast formulas to your taste, with a service that should be set as an example Bread is amazing and already well-buttered up coming with a side of Alain Millat’s jam. Hot chocolate tastes like ancient times. Do come here to set up the mood for the day 🙏🏼

Went for dinner, Both indoor and outdoor seating available, very lively street. Ordered the duck breast which is slightly chewy hard to chew, but amazingly good flavours with the sweet sauce. French onion soup was very nice and large escargot. Lamb confit was ok.

Overall it was ok Service was great Atmosphere was fun and comfortable Food quality was mediocre - Especially the risotto.

Yelp
Wonderful food! Beautiful and sweet staff and delicious drinks! Came twice in our three day stay.

Yelp
The option i picked was really good. i had the MACARONI AU GRATIN which had ham and creamy white sauce with tuffle. This pasta I really enjoyed, its creamy of course but the cheese is not the sharpest but I really like it since of the truffle flavor. The snail here was with pesto sauce inside which was on good. First time having snails and it was a good experience eating it. I taste a piece of my partner duck and it was alright since the taste is not for me, I liked it but don't love it enough to keep asking her for what was on her plate. It looks like steak but not exactly same texture but similar vibe.

David P.

Yelp
Excellent spot with great service. Burgers and onion soup were excellent. Fries also great. Coffee very good.

Danielle P.

Yelp
Busy space with a pretty solid steak frites. Our server was nice. The dessert was fabulous! We all ordered the same steak with different temperatures and everyone liked how it was cooked. It came with a sauce and I didn't actually get to choose one, but was provided with bernaise. I asked for the pepper sauce and it was pretty good, better than the other. The cheesecake was good and the French toast was very delicious. A large projection was playing the Olympics. We ate outside because it was a nice evening. If only we could get nonsmoking seating in Paris. Haha

Yelp
Went for Dinner Food - 2/5. Lamb was tender with a simple brown gravy. Taste was typical of brown sauces, being one note. Duck was a good medium well with a nice level of rendering on the fat. The sauce had a peppery kick and the aroma of allspice. The strong scent and sweetness paired well with the duck. Mashed potatoes were lackluster. It lacked creaminess that you would expect from a restaurant level mashed potato and the seasoning was the most basic; little butter with a pinch of salt. Service - 3/5. Most restaurants on this street are busy yet the service has always been attentive and friendly. It was not that they were rude, but their service style was too transactional; taking orders and delivering food without a word like a robot. Ordering in English was fine. Value - 1/5. It wasn't that the food is bad, but they are not at the quality you expect when you dine out. The flavor lacked the culinary finesse of a fine dining establishment or the rustic charm of a mom & pop restaurant. Visually, it resembled cafeteria food, having one color per plate; all having dull tones. The price was standard with entrees being in the 20€~s range and the portions were below average, serving just the protein with a side of mashed potatoes. They have a good corner location, but their food is way outclassed by all the other options in the area. Parking - N/A

Yelp
Le Compas has become our favorite spot on one of the best streets with the people watching and patio dining vibe! They have a great location and very efficient service! We've tried a range of dishes, and our favorite seems to be their pesto sauce muscles and onion soup! Although their best feature is the location and the vibe!

Yelp
OMG!! First time in Paris for my retirement trip!! This was EXACTLY what I wanted for my first cafe experience. Located on the corner of a quaint street with several other restaurants and small shops. We (my husband and adult daughter) were able to sit comfortably in their tiny (compared to USA sizes) round table, oooolala so cozy. They even had blankets to cover your legs or lap to off set the morning chill. We chose to sit outside so I could people watch. But we were in for a treat as we saw many different breeds of dogs taking a stroll with their humans. ; ). The dogs were all so well mannered too! Service was spot on! Our server knew some English so it was quite helpful for our first of several revisits during our trip. Extremely attentive and friendly. We all loved the service. Food: wow, you first notice how much FOOD you get with your "set" breakfast! And compared to California costs, we ordered and ate and paid very little. We came back here for lunch and dinner on other days. Now your experience may differ with the different servers working. On our second breakfast visit, translation was a bit off so took a few time before the proper items arrived. But we still ate great food!! I recommend this place for its breakfast and experience. So relaxing and FUN!! If I go back to Paris, this is a place I will have my breakfast! Enjoy.

Christopher W.

Yelp
My wife and I were visiting from the US and enjoyed a great date night meal here. The food was excellent and just what we wanted for a night out together. The beef bourguignon was the best we had while in Paris. Prices were what you expect this was probably our favorite restaurant we ate at.

E B.

Yelp
We really enjoyed breakfast here, and the breakfast bread basket came with the fancy butter (Beurre de Baratte). Super kid friendly- my fam of 4 split 2 breakfast specials and we had leftover food and it was less than $30. Not sure at all why it had only 3 stars. We are vegetarian and they were very accommodating about it.

Ben F.

Yelp
We sat here last year for a couple drinks. Decided to come back. Had a white wine with some french fries this year. The location of this restaurant is wonderful and every seat in the place has a nice view of the street. The waiters were incredibly attentive and very nice. Whenever we wanted anything they delivered it right away. While I had the sorbet, my fiancée went across the street and got Stohrer. She asked the waiter, before she went across the street if it was OK and he graciously said of course. Incredibly clean bathrooms on the main floor. we would recommend this for a nice rest of your legs and people watching.

Carissa C.

Yelp
The YouTubers, Les Frenchies, recommended this place to us and we had a nice dinner even though we visited on a busy Friday night. We were seated immediately and our waiter lit up a candle for a very intimate dinner despite literally sitting inches away from the next table. My fiancee and I split their hamburger and chips. The flavor of their hamburger was very flavorful and the chips were plentiful. For drinks, I had a glass of champagne and my fiancee got their I Love Paris cocktail (tourist vibes, but still delicious). One star down for the price point as this was one of our more expensive dinners and we even shared an entree. Montorgueil is such a hip street at night though, so I'm sure the prices reflect the area appropriately.

Susannah K.

Yelp
We came here after ordering desserts across the street so that we could sit down and order drinks to accompany our food. A server noticed our predicament and was gracious in offering us seats. The ambiance is lovely. All that was the best part, and then it went downhill from there. First off the drink prices are outrageous: more than 6 euros for a tea or coffee, yikes! Then we couldn't get their attention. Lots of staff hanging around but couldn't be bothered to get our check even after asking more than once.

Jenny T.

Yelp
The complimentary olives were a great way to start the meal. Escargot- Delicious! The snails were a nice size and flavorful. The bread was a bit hard though. (€16) Fries- They were good. When they ask if you want mayonnaise, say yes. It definitely made them taste better. Salmon Pavé- The salmon itself was tasty and cooked well, but the green beans were really the star of this dish. (€21)

Elizabeth A.

Yelp
The perfect place for an outdoor seat and people watching on a busy, popular street. You can grab a drink and sit for a while or get a nice little meal. We stopped here a few times during our visit and the fast was always quick and on it. Food was good, lots of options.

Amalia B.

Yelp
Prices seem reasonable for any large city. Most things around €20-30. We ate the onion soup which was delish. Followed by the Rigatoni and Croque Madame to share. Both excellent! For wine we selected the Chablis (Domaine sea Chaumes) & the Sancerre (Domaine Doudeau-Léger). Staff was great, we did go around 6pm on a Wednesday so it wasn't super busy. Lovely interior decor!

Gurleen K.

Yelp
Beautiful little restaurant in a very nice area! The French onion soup was absolutely amazing and the fries taste great and fresh as well! The fish with the fish and chips was a bit over cooked and therefore fry but still good. My main complaint is the speed of the service which may be a normal thing for Paris but it seemed like all the tables around us were getting serviced faster than us which was slightly irritating. Overall a good experience though!

Mike B.

Yelp
We spent four full days in Paris, and ate dinner and lunch each day at different restaurants. This was easily my favorite (although they were all very good). Le Compas has a great vibe, our server was awesome, and the food was outstanding. My wife had the Thai chicken wok, not really french, but very good. But she did try the escargot for an appetizer and said it wasn't bad. I went with the Croque Madame, which was awesome. Not sure if this is a French thing or not, but it was a home run with me. To me, it seemed like a ham & grilled cheese sandwich, but the cheese is somehow on the outside on top of the bread. You eat it with a fork & knife. Also came with fries, which were the best in Paris. Had a glass of Saint Emilion red wine, also very good. This is one place I would want to hit again if ever in France.

Lesley F.

Yelp
Very nice place on a very busy point on Montgalier St. We enjoyed a nice dinner here. The venue is great for people watching but can be a little tight quarters. The food is very good, I cannot recall exactly what we had, but we did come back for breakfast. The service also was very good.

Rachel D.

Yelp
Ordered the escargot and had to come back a few days later for more! To die for. My mouth is still watering over the how perfectly sauced and cooked it was. We also ordered the French onion soup, with our main courses as the duck (highly, highly recommend) and the beef tartar (beware, this one is a TON of raw beef - would recommend splitting). Everything was cooked to absolute perfection and the staff was fun and friendly to boot! The only reason I can't give this place a five star is the overall cramped nature of the outdoor seating. It was hard not to feel crammed in like a sardine next to the neighboring table. And, at times, basically breathing in their cigarette or ssalvia being swapped with a SO. Yikes. However, if I am to rate based on food and service quality, five stars all the way. I will definitely be returning on my next visit to Paris!

Christina G.

Yelp
This place was extremely busy on a Saturday night. We were able to get squeezed in by a super nice host. Everyone seemed to speak English, which is a plus. They even had English menus! However, we were sat right underneath a heater so I was sweating the whole time. I ordered a burger which came out very raw. When we waved the waiter down to send it back he was very rude. Also would not stop coughing in his hands as he was waiting on everyone else. Also really overpriced. 20 euro for a cheeseburger (that was served raw) not worth it. I had so many other better burgers elsewhere for cheaper. Do not recommend.

James W.

Yelp
I had a great meal here on one of my last nights in Paris and would come back! We started with drinks and escargot. Admittedly, being a tourist in Paris on vacation, I felt that I had to get escargot, and it did not disappoint! the sauce was buttery and satisfying and the snails were perfectly cooked. My main course was salmon tartar, which was a TON of raw fish. Although I love salmon, I had trouble eating it all after the escargot, but it was seasoned well with dill and tasty overall. Almost every little bistro in Paris doubles as an amazing intimate date spot, and this place did not disappoint for my friend date. The whole restaurant was dimly lit and cute, but quite loud overall. Had there been space, I would have preferred to sit outside. Overall, the food quality was on par for the price. This is a solid dinner spot in the 2nd arrondissement.

Daniel B.

Yelp
Food was delicious. Had the French onion soup and duck breasts. Service was poor. The waiter forgot the main dish, condescendingly explained how we should eat, and had the gall to request a tip as I paid the bill

Klint S.

Yelp
This was one of my favorite local eats in Paris. The service was excellent, the food was good, fair priced and the people watching what's very fun.

Glenn C.

Yelp
Loved my time there. My waiter was Benjamin. He was so nice, and he remembered me a few days later when I went back. Best French Onion soup I had in Paris!

Peach I.

Yelp
Chill place in an incredibly cute street filled with different stores and other cafes. Great service!

Adrian B.

Yelp
Came here late in the day for lunch the other Saturday. Its ok, nothing to write home about - 4 of us @ 90€ I guess was fair. Guess it just wasn't that exciting. A very popular street to eat in, crowded with the good weather, everyone outside. Would look elsewhere next time. Best thing is to take a walk to see St Eustache at the end of the road - amazing church being renovated

Oana M.

Yelp
Great location! In the Montmartre crazyness, a place where you can rest and watch the human flow going all over the places. Or admire the local artists trying to sell their paintings or working at new ones. They hav Big Paris prices for drinks and decent prices for food. I had a fish soup and I don't recommend it! but i also tried from my bf's plate of escargots and even though I would never do that again, I still would recommend having them at least once when in Paris. Friendly staff and general good services.

Nicklas S.

Yelp
Super kind waiter that served me, although he didn't quite get the questions I had about the food, because he didn't understand very good English. Ordered the rib eye with bearnaise. The rib eye was almost only fat. Not a lot actual meat on it. Not a very good piece. The bearnaise was served cold, found out this is a thing they do I, but wasn't mentioned when I ordered, and I don't really dig fridge-cols bearnaise.. The price don't match the quality. I'd recommend this place for a drink, not for dinner. The place is cozy once you sit, in a nice and busy part of Paris.

Kristine S.

Yelp
We came here for an early dinner and the restaurant was buzzing with happy people. We had the steak, which came with cold bernaise. The waiter told us it was supposed to be served cold. I never experienced a steak with hot fries, to be served with a cold sauce. 8 euro for water, and the "house crepes" didn't seem home made. Ok place for drinks, I didn't feel that the price of the food, matched the quality. I will not return here to eat.

Elizabeth H.

Yelp
Loved the food and service. Everyone spoke English, and the staff was friendly. The menu was extensive and featured a little of everything.

S. H.

Yelp
Wow, was this a busy restaurant and area for a Wednesday night in May. After visiting many sold-out venues, we were able to squeeze 3 of us at a cafe table outside on a balmy night. There was something going on in the hood because every restaurant was packed and there were tons of people spilling over into the streets with their drinks. Whatever!! We wanted dinner. We only ordered plats. Fish and chips was reported to be very good. The tartare was also reported to be very good. I had a Salade Nicoise. It was made with a thin piece of fresh cooked tuna rather than some thrown out of a can. Excellent. The green beans that rested on the bottom were great and it had the tastiest roasted peppers. We enjoyed the street scene even though it was almost deafeningly loud!

Jensine C.

Yelp
Good food but you pay for the scenery really. Tight spaces, and the food is average. The prices are steep especially for a double cheeseburger being $23.

Ryan M.

Yelp
If I could give a half a star I would. After ordering my meal and food I was informed the kitchen had run out of supplies. I did not like anything else and looked at the menu for about twenty minutes. After trying my drink I did not like it. Trying to return the drink turned into a nightmare. I was called a liar. As I was told the drink was finished and re-filled with water. If you are visiting Paris or a local take my advice and stay away. Poor service. Poor customer service. Way better food in the 4th arr.

J T.

Yelp
Service was good. Food, not so much. The salad (tossed) that came with the Croque Madame was not to be consumed - see picture. The terrace is nice, like many others on the avenue.

Mr O.

Yelp
Probably not the most French thing to say - best burger bun in Paris and great amount of people watching to add. Great location great service. English menus.

Edward R.

Yelp
I returned here for a third visit (annual pilgrimage for dinner and off the chart people watching) and the magret de canard is still exceptional. Friendly service, great food, fantastic location, and warm ambiance. And it's on Rue Montorgueil...need I say more? :)

Mike D.

Yelp
Very good service. Food was good, I had mussels and croc crostoni and a good Bordeaux, I do appreciate it when the staff tolerates my abysmal french!

Stephen H.

Yelp
The waitstaff are always strolling about - eyes on the street or on you - to make sure you are never unattended. Good view of one of the best market streets in Paris - and whether you need shade, warmth, or sunshine, the terrace area will be appropriately adjusted for the weather. Pricey, though.

Dave M.

Yelp
Great food! The show cooked pulled lamb was amazing! The best lamb and I have ever had. The wait staff was very friendly, talkative and funny. Great wine too!

Louis B.

Yelp
First night in Paris (coming from NYC) and we decided to try this place out. What Ana amazing find! The service was amazing. We started out with the French onion soup, mussels with parsley butter and Buratta- all worth ordering! So great!! We then had the beef Aloyau with the Shallot sauce which was good but would haven been great if we had not ordered it not bloody, our fault ugh. Highly recommend!!

Ana L.

Yelp
First when I came, the waitress was quite rude. It seemed like she thought I had no money to additionally tip her. Then, when the food came I was dissapointed with the preparation of the steak, cause it was nowhere medium as I asked, in some parts it was even rare. By the end of the meal when we tipped her (quite generously as we found out), she became the nicest person you can meet. All in all, my experience was not really pleasant and I experience better place in Paris.

Peter S.

Yelp
Enjoyed our lunch here. Nice atmosphere albeit a little Disney-esque and nice attentive service despite the busy-ness. Food was fine; not the best value. Nice place to hang out and have a drink in a bustling neighborhood.

Francesca G.

Yelp
This is a great cafe if you want to grab a drink on the terrace and people-watch on Rue Montorgueil. They have a pretty good wine list that isn't crazy expensive (around 35 or so for a bottle of Sancerre), and an amazing brillat-savarin with truffle that they get from the fromagerie just up the street. Service is not so attentive (it doesn't need to be really), so if you're happy to be responsible for topping up your own wine then it's worth stopping here for an afternoon drink on the terrace!

Susan P.

Yelp
The food was absolutely fantastic and so was the service!! I enjoyed everything about this place! The location was great, the service was attentive but not overbearing and the food was fantastic. You couldn't go wrong with this place!!!

Taylor J.

Yelp
Best food I had in France. Came here 3 times within 9 days and got the Camembert salad every time :)

Inge F.

Yelp
We stayed right by Le Compas, so it was very convenient to go and eat there. The servers were very nice and friendly, The food was good, I loved the "French Onion Soup". Great place to sit outside and watch the hustle and bustle along this stretch of Rue Montorgueil.

Jamie C.

Yelp
Food was okay, fun location but service was unpleasant. Waiters were okay but the waitress was rude - not sure if it's because we're non-local and/or Asian. Had many many other pleasant dining experiences - this was the worst by far.
