Le Comptoir Saoufé

We were looking for some great seafood on our first night in La Rochelle and this place came up as a good option on a Google search. They took online bookings which was great as it looked small from the outside so didn’t want to risk going without a reservation on a Saturday night. On arrival we had the choice of sitting inside or if we were OK going out at the back we could have a table outdoors - we were fine with the back area and the atmosphere was fine once most the tables were full. The menu was mainly seafood (though did have cheese and meat platters) - so we picked our favourite items to make up a seafood platter. Oysters were great as were the prawns (ordered more at the end!) the crab was quite small and poor value, sardine rillette was so tasty. Staff were great and spoke good English. Overall we enjoyed our meal but good seafood unfortunately isn’t cheap!

Exceptional small restaurant. The emphasis is on local seafood, and the oysters are very special. There are also choices from the land, including escargot, foie gras, cheeses, and so on. The dishes are small, giving you a chance to sample a selection. The desserts are simple regional specialties, and very good. In our three days in La Rochelle ate here three times. That says it all.

Our Airbnb was next door to their terrace at the back so we passed a couple times before deciding to stop for some oysters and prawns. The waitress Stéphanie was amazing, she was so attentive and made us feel like family. We then met Jeremy, the owner followed by his parents Philippe and Hélène, who were all so friendly, welcoming and couldnt do enough for you. We went back with a local friend who will also be returning. This time we tried the sardines rillettes and the cheese platter and it was delicious. I definitely recommend this place.

Jeremy is amazing. Oysters are very tasty and great value. Don’t go anywhere else if you are staying in La Rochelle.

Had a lovely lunch here, the terrace was full but the inside still had space for 4 at 1300 on a Sunday. The art is super cute and service is really great. We highly recommend the garlic grilled shrimp, the grilled sardines, the mussels and the fish. Basically everything we got was flavorful and fresh.

We love this place… the foods so great and the service wes awesome♥️ thanks Jeremy for your kindness .. the seafood so fresh, so memorable coz finally i can eat the oyster hahaha… also my kids love the candies.. definitely recommended

Nice place with very good quality selected food! Very fresh and tasty fruit de mer with aioli, (especially their prawns and byllots,) good quality cheeses and wines. Very friendly service from the couple who runs the place!
