21 Best Restaurants in Vancouver

"Le Crocodile, which has chef Michel Jacob running the show, has been a fixture on Vancouver’s fine dining scene since it opened in 1983. The restaurant isn't trying to reinvent French cuisine. It is, however, hell bent on creating classic dishes that stand the test of time. From escargots and pan-seared veal sweetbreads to roasted duck breast with foie gras and Provençal-style lamb shanks, this is the kind of cooking that would make Escoffier himself take notice. The service is friendly; the servers, approachable. The cliché of the snooty Gallic waiter is nowhere in sight. The room is elegant and understated, much like the cooking itself, which has landed the restaurant on local "best French" lists year after year." - Guy Saddy, Nicole Schnitzler

VANCOUVER CITY GUIDE

"Our story began in Strasbourg, France where Chef/Owner Michel Jacob was born. As a young apprentice under Chef J.Letzer of Zimmer, Michel and his fellow chefs were often taken to restaurants for firsthand experience of the local dining scene. One day, Chef Letzer took the entire brigade to Restaurant Au Crocodile. The chefs were served a meal “like nothing they had ever seen or tasted before”. Everything was under the expert hand of Emile Jung, who came out personally to explain the philosophy of his cooking. It was at that meal that Michel Jacob set the standards for his own culinary path. Chef E.Jung became his ‘inspirational culinary mentor’. In 1983, Chef Michel opened Le Crocodile in Vancouver. Initially located on Thurlow Street, we quickly gained attention and had to move to our larger current location. Thirty nine years later, with some of the original staff still here, we are grateful to still remain in Vancouver as one of the city’s most acclaimed and visited restaurant."

One of the best experiences we have ever had. Kasey took such great care of our every need. Service was warm and attentive. The food was exceptional, down to the last bite, we even ate every scrap of sauce on our plates. Desserts were delicious. Our wonderful evening was capped off with a celebratory card from the staff. Thank you so much to everyone who tended to our table; we appreciate all that you did to make our anniversary celebration at memorable one.

It’s no surprise Feenie has had falling outs with past business partners (just look him up). As others have noted, service here is not what it once was — it’s because there’s high staff turnover since Feenie took over. I’ll leave it at that and let you connect the dots; I have heard first-hand about staff who left and why they left. **Note: attached are photos from 2022 when the previous chef/owner was in charge. So, I no longer feel I need to hold back. This establishment absolutely does NOT deserve 4.6 stars anymore. I had been twice before under the previous chef and had left with a wonderful impression that this place embodied proper French cuisine. That is no longer true. First, they have removed all French from their menus under the new control. When I went back exactly one year ago today, I had probably the worst mushroom soup I’d ever had, it had little actual mushroom flavour. And I vowed I would never come back. Everything that once made this a wonderful restaurant has been taken. The authenticity, the quality, the service, and the good nature.

I waited a very long time to write this review .... I was a regular at the old le crocodile by chef Michel Jacob, and it was spectacular. Big shoes to fill and perhaps my expectations were too high for the modern version of le crocodile by chef Rob Feenie. The three of us arrived on a bustling Saturday night and were quickly seated. The tables are quite close together so not a real fan of the seating plan, and the renovations reflect a modern French bistro vibe but it missing the special touches that felt like you were in France. Much of the service staff seem to be new or in training so it's missing they are missing the high polish. The food was good but not great and the prices seem higher for the dishes delivered. I've been to all the high end restaurants in Vancouver and don't mind dropping $$$ for great food. Even more irritating was the fact that tables were so close together that the wait staff kept on bumping into my elbow throughout the dinner service. I'm a big fan of Chef Rob Feenie, having been to his ground breaking Lumiere restaurant (decades ago) and watching him defeat the top iron chefs in America (Morimoto and Flay). I'm still rooting for Chef Feenie, but I'd have to say Le Crocodile misses the mark. Perhaps it just takes time to work out the kinks but for now I won't be rushing back anytime soon.

Had the most amazing anniversary celebration dinner here last night. Out server went above and beyond to make our night special including a signed card from all the staff and ROB FEENIE, asked him to come out and talk to my husband and I; he was so down to earth and spent the time to explain his menu, this is someone who is very very guinuine and passionate about his work. Food was great, everything was fresh and delicious. Our favorites of the night were the seafood medley and sablefish. Cannot compliment the entire experience enough, have been raving to all our friends. Thank you to Rob Feenie and all the staff at Le Crocodile.

We had a fantastic time and truly enjoyed the food. Our server, Leo, was excellent. However, we wanted to note that while we were looking at the drink menu, another server offered us a glass of champagne to enjoy while we decided on our food and found a better drink pairing. We accepted, but when we received the bill, we were surprised to find that the champagne was priced at $38 per glass. We hadn't expected that. But all good!

I write this review with Rob Feenie's "Lumiere" cookbook tucked at my side. He was a legend of his time. Fast forward Dec 7 2025, Le Crocodile; it's been 30+ years since we've been to Le Croc, and with Feenie at the helm, we were excited to return. But. Perplexing is the airport lounge ambiance of the new Croc. That was STRIKE 1. Service = STRIKE 2 (not totally bad ....but just not what is expected of fine dining $$$$.) STRIKE 3 ---> Escargot --> stuck in the 90's . If you can't amp up the recipe... at least plate it like it's 2025. The veal dish ---> I personally find veal passe. (The cruelty / factory farming/ also plays on my mind. Thats why I didn't order it.) My partner did. According to him, "the veal reduction was less of a reduction & tasted more of a packaged gravy." My partner didn't completely hate his dishes, but added, "you cook better than this." STRIKE -4. Before we arrived ...I saw a tasty looking beet & burrata salad on their website (see my photos). On the website it has plump beets, blood oranges, basil/ herb pesto, fresh burrata + nasturtiam leaves. The burrata salad I got was shaved yellow beets & lovely burrata; with orange slices, pears & candied red beets, + white balsamic drizzle. Fine, but a beet / burrata salad without basil or pesto is like expecting a cheesburger... and not getting any cheese. Anyway, if not basil, how about some wow factor to step it up? And.. the caramelized candied beets seemed like more of a dessert / afterthought. "Oh hey why dont we throw candied beets on top"... sort of thing. Overall...I felt the beet salad was a C -minus. STRIKE -5. My biggest peeve was what I refer to as my tuna SLURPEE. The frosty whipped tuna sorbet topper quickly melted into the tuna cluster beneath it - and between the watery cucumber + raw endive ...the entire dish was just too wet; it all turned to a slushy mess before I could finish it. (Nor did I really want to.) It was bland, dull & soggy. The exceptions would be the tobiko + hint of yuzu / citrus ....which marginally saved the dish. STRIKE -6. The management, I give 4 stars. They handled my complaints with professionalism & sincere apologies; they listened well, and struck the tuna slurpee from our bill. And while thats all good & fine, what we came for was a Rob Feenie / Lumiere / Le Croc / experience /extraordinaire. It didn't happen. One of my take-aways from this experience is, I feel, that by skimping on small garnishes & add-ons, and by using frozen food (probably prepped days in advance) it just seemed to cheapen everything. At least thaw & strain the food before you plate it; and then marry it with something of contrast. Not water + water + more water. Rename it "Le Croc", "Fraisian Food" as in "French/ Asian"....so that people do not come here thinking its anything like the good ole authentic, French, Le Crocodile it once was.

Wow! Went to celebrate our anniversary and it was wonderful. Everyone was so attentive and friendly. Made us feel very special. Food was excellent! Loved the duck breast dish! Definitely coming back!

Google
This is my first time leaving a review for a restaurant, but I just had to share this unforgettable experience. The food was delicious. The atmosphere was fantastic, and a huge shoutout to our server, Sarah, who truly made my day! I was so touched when she had everyone in the restaurant sign a birthday card for me. Such a sweet and thoughtful gesture. Highly recommend this place!

Yelp
I decided on Le Crocodile to celebrate my birthday, as my mother had a fantastic lunch here the other day. Although I had not visited since the change in ownership, the restaurant still felt the same when we walked in. From the host to our waiter, the staff here are truly hospitable and provided excellent service. Firstly, their lobster bisque is still amazing. It is served tableside, piping hot and fresh. You have the option to add on a delicious baguette, baked fresh from Small Victory bakery, which perfectly complements the bisque. This was definitely the star of the show, but we also really enjoyed the endive salad. The bluefin tartare was tasty as well. Unfortunately, they seem to have an issue with temperature when it comes to the entrees. Surprisingly, their chicken supreme was the best dish, which was served relatively hot. I'm unsure if we were just unlucky but the other dishes were either lukewarm or room temperature. It was odd because in the seafood medley, the scallops were still at a decent temperature but the lobster was nearly cold. We had the same issue with the lamb. However, we did not send anything back as we dislike wasting food, so we let it go and the waiter did take note at the end.

Yelp
Le Crocodile is very near and dear to my heart as I grew up living in the building above the restaurant. I would grow up seeing fancy cars pull up with diners weaving in and out of the restaurant thought the week. My parents would also take us on special occasions when we were little, but I never really had an appreciation for it. After moving to California, my husband and I would come back every year to visit family and we would always dine at Le Crocodile. It's become a tradition now! We absolutely love dining here -- French cuisine has become one of our favorites and Le Crocodile lives up to its reputation. Each dish is refined and flavorful and their wine program and sommeliers are fantastic. I especially love having their Duck entree as well as their pâté. We have never been disappointed with our dining experience with Le Crocodile. It's been a joy to see the transformation and newly renovated restaurant into a beautifully modern restaurant with classically French cuisine. When Chef Rob Feenie took over Le Crocodile in 2024, he took this iconic restaurant and brought it to another level. It's no wonder that they have been a successful restaurant for 42 years and counting... We will be back very soon! À bientôt!

Yelp
Lovely restaurant for a romantic dinner. We decided to celebrated our anniversary at Le Crocodile. My partner booked a while ago. We got sitted at a nice quiet table next to the window. The menu has lots of very good options, some are a bit more bistro than gourmet but all good choices. The cocktail menu was not really inspirés le so we ordered some classics. A gin and tonic and glass of wine. All very nice. For food, we had the foie gras and steak tartare as entrées. All excellent. I even got more brioche bread to finish my foie gras. So good!! For mains we chose the duck breast and the lamb. Also perfect. And for dessert we shared the crème brûlée. Really an excellent dinner. Top-notch service.

Yelp
Food 3.5 Service 3.5 Atmosphere 3 Tonight we celebrate our 10th year anniversary and were greeted as such. We were seated to the bar dinning area at the bar and wine cabinet. The tables between each other are too close to each other to allow a private conversation. The couple who were seated right next to us had asked to move to a table in the main dinning. It is definitely one table too much. The "new" restaurant by Rob Feenie has maintained the same decor as the original Le Crocodile. For someone who is looking for classic elegance, it's fine. My partner very much enjoyed the endive salad and the lamb saddle has cooked to the requested temperature at medium rare. Unfortunately my appetizer and main course are rather disappointing. The foie gras terrine is quite dense and it really requires the use of knife to cut it through. I wish it would be a bit softer. It also needs more acidity in the dish - maybe more garnish and pickled components. The brioche is rich and soft. The Fraser valley duck breast and seared foie gras - I'm quite surprised the duck breast is overcooked as they are medium and not medium rare as ordered. They offered to replace the dish and the second place shows the right medium rare. Unfortunately the duck breast has some tendon that becomes tough to eat. I would also like the duck skin to be rendered a bit more as they are too fatty to my liking. Service - as expected. I'm just surprised to see a relatively rare scene in high end restaurants to have French fries falling on the floor given the staff should be more well trained and experienced. Chef Feenie was in the house tonight as he picked up some drinks at the bar. From what I see he did not make any contacts or conversations with guests. Overall I found this dinning experience far from satisfactory and is not as good as the experience we had before the new management.

Yelp
Amazing dining experience. Beautiful setting. Caviar was perfectly matched with the different toppings and potato rosti. The lamb was cooked to perfection. Our waiter was very professional, everything here is on another level.

Yelp
SO! It was my first time coming back since Rob Feenie took over... the food is still good, but there are a few draw backs. First the good! Food is yummy, as always, and location is great. The room is very cute and the Maître D' is as charming as ever. A lively French man that is warm and welcoming. I love his French accent. The service is still quite nice as well. Not as chic as previously but lovely still. For food we had escargot, the specialty appetizer white asparagus flown in from Holland with béarnaise sauce, black truffles and a boiled egg. We also got bread for the table. All of these choices were fantastic, and it was hard to pick because they had so many fantastic options. I had the Crocodile soixante-cinq cocktail, made with sparkling wine, lavender and gin. While I don't usually enjoy gin it was lovely. My mum, whose birthday we were celebrating, had the special which was basically an aperol spritz with maraschino syrup which she really enjoyed. For mains we had some wine from the very extensive list. It was delightful. I also had the roasted chicken with wild mushrooms and it was fantastic. Mum had the Haida Gwai sable fish which she really enjoyed too. For dessert we had the Alsatian apple tart and Carmel crunch mousse. Because it was mums birthday they did write happy birthday and out a candle in it. The food really was amazing and we were really happy with it. With tax and tip it was $400 for 2 people, which I think is a fair price for 2 appies, bread, 2 cocktails, 3 glasses of wine, an after dinner coffee, 2 pains and 3 desserts (the apple tart was so good I wanted to bring one home for my dad.) The less great... the *vibe* has definitely changed a bit since the switch over. Much less chic, a little more trendy. Maybe some people like that. I didn't. No more if those awesome complimentary shoestring friend while you wait for your food (you can't even order them) which was too bad because I just loved those. You have to pay $7 extra if you want bread. This annoyed me, not for the $7 of course but the principle. I'm already paying a premium to be here, I don't like feeling nickle and dimed to death for every little thing. High end restaurants should offer complimentary bread. Charging me $7 for a bread basket made it feel a bit tacky and cheap to me, personally. They didn't sing bonne fete (Happy Birthday in French) like they have previous years, so I had to do it myself. No more cute signature chocolate Brodie's after dinner. They still offer a small chocolate truffle, but it's not the same. The to go bags are not the same high quality beautiful branded bags they used to have that made it feel so special. I understand complaining about these relatively small grievances may seem petty or like not a big deal which is true to a degree. The food is still very good. However, to me it was these little extra touches that really made it an extra special place. It feels very noticeable to me that they're missing because I loved them. That said, it won't stop me from going again or recommending it to others . It's just that it's lost its charm a tiny bit and doesn't feel as special as it used to.

Yelp
Le Crocodile has been around for a long time, and has always been on my bucket list. I'm glad I was able to finally try it very recently. Upon arrival, we were seated immediately. I would imagine the space hasn't changed much over time, as it's classic and timeless. After some time, we ordered and I was able to try the following: - Seared Foie Gras - Excellent. Perfectly seared, and a surprisingly generous portion size. - Escargot de Bourgogne - Excellent. I've had escargot a few times, and always appreciated it, but this by far, was the best version I've ever had. I would order it again if given the chance. - Beef Wellington - Excellent. Perfectly cooked beef, and an delicious sauce. Delicious. - Grilled Veal Tenderloin Medallions - Very good. The veal was nice, but it was the morel sauce that really shined. - Classic Le Crocodile Alsatian Apple Tart - Excellent. Not knowing what exactly an Alsatian Apple Tart is, I was expecting something more like an apple pie. I was completely wrong, and this was so much better. Service was spectacular. Our server was charming, attentive and extremely well experienced. He made some great wine recommendations, and was observant enough to see that I don't consume alcohol, so he made sure the sorbet serving I got at the end of the meal did not get the normal splash of vodka. I should note that the new partner, Rob Feenie, was often in the dining room throughout the night greeting guests, which was nice to see. Overall, a fantastic meal that did met some very high expectations. The food is simple but classic and well executed. Service was top notch. With all the new Michelin stars and recommendations being handed out the past few years, I feel Le Crocodile deserves some sort of recognition, as the experience I had for dinner here far surpassed the experiences I had at some Michelin starred restaurants. But on the other hand, I don't mind it not getting that same recognition, as I find it tends to inflate prices. I look forward to returning.

Gin C.

Yelp
This was recommended off a Reddit comment and the price is not the cheapest but the food and service just excellent. The food is unique and they pair well, definitely a treat to celebrate a birthday

Peter V.

Yelp
Service and ambience very good. Food itself not on par with previous owner/chef. Onion soup, too small bowl packed with onion, bread and cheese, lack of fluid, more mush than soup, would not be served in France. Worse, chicken paillard, dry inside, overcooked, burnt, should never left the kitchen, no apologies from the kitchen, billed as normal. Sablefish is recommended, small portions, so is beet salad. Pity.

Yelp
I've wanted to dine at this place since I first heard of it back in 2003. It's now run by Rob Feenie, who took over from Michel Jacob in May 2024. The first thing we noticed were their management and staff ... they're a well-oiled machine. Courteous, gracious, unobtrusive, yet attentive. I perused their extensive wine list and chose a 2020 Pommard 1er Cru 'Les Chanlins' from Monthelie Douhairet Porcheret ($390). It was full of red fruit, earthy, with hints of clove. Bread and Butter ($7) were next while we continued to read through the menu. Even the butter was formed into a "kiss". Our server (Miguel) noted some specials, and I opted for one of them ...Breaded Sweetbreads in some type of green sauce ($28) while my sister-in-law (SIL) chose the Escargot de Bourgogne ($30). For entrees, we chose the Seafood Medley ($70) and the Grilled Veal Tenderloin Medallions ($55). SIL demurred on trying the sweetbreads, which I found to be sublime. I love sweetbreads! But it was the sauce! My SIL used bread to sop up every bit of sauce from my plate ... It was that good! She didn't really care for her escargot; the Pernod parsley garlic butter didn't have enough garlic for her (or me). SIL's seafood medley was a beautiful presentation of lobster, Hokkaido scallops, prawns with pieces of zucchini and asparagus. Our server finished the dish by pouring in the tomato saffron broth. My veal medallions came in a sea of morel sauce ... It was so flavorful and delicious. My SIL sopped up the sauce from my plate with more bread. There's always room for dessert and we chose the Classic Le Crocodile Alsatian Apple Tart ($14) and the Tarte Robuchon ($18). The apple tart was the more successful of the two, more a slice of pie than a tart (to me); it came with a quenelle of brown butter cardamom ice cream which I gave to my SIL. Her Tarte Robuchon was a visual treat ... A round of chocolate ganache served with a scoop of chocolate sorbet. I finished my meal with an Americano Coffee ($6). What can I say? To me, it was a Michelin star worthy experience. The food, service and atmosphere made this one of my best meals of 2024.

Yelp
An absolutely outstanding experience from start to finish. The food was exquisite, the ambiance warm and inviting, and the staff exceptionally gracious and attentive. Every detail made the evening feel truly special. Worth every penny and more.

What went wrong!? Absolutely nothing! I haven't had a meal like this since I don't know when! The atmosphere, the staff, and everything. Must visit again!

Yelp
We had a very nice dinner here. Service was good and food was good as well. I ordered the sablefish which is black cod known for its buttery taste. While i enjoyed the fish, the bubbles and seaweed was slimy which detracted from the fish's overall taste. We all liked the escargot with the bread.

Yelp
An absolutely superb dinner and excellent dinner. I had the Fois Gras terrine. Just the right amount of salt and the fruit compote was refreshing and not sweet. The roasted frog legs were out of this world. This will become one of my me go to restaurants

Yelp
I needed a good meal and it was found at this location. I sat alone at the bar and did the tasting menu and selected everything fish. Phil was the bartender and he really put the experience over the top. None of the dishes were rushed and I ended up staying until closing time. Phil set the benchmark for outstanding hospitality. I almost feel bad for the next place I go because now the bar is really high!

Yelp
This is such a superb restaurant in every way. The decor is modern yet welcoming, with clever design decisions to keep noise levels reasonable. From the moment you are greeted you can tell this is going to be a welcoming yet very professional experience. The menu is modern French in all the best ways, with a focus on flavor and flavor combinations. My hamachi starter was an exquisite combination of complex flavors in balance, from grapefruit ice to serrano pepper. My companion's foie gras brulee was also wonderful, and provided us with both an appetizer and a dessert course. My lamb entree was good, but was overshadowed by the flavorful simplicity of her chicken, incredibly moist and tender. The small cocktail list belies just how great the mixology here is. The Vesper is one of the best cocktails I've ever had, and puts all other Vespers to shame as far as complexity and nuance--a great way to start the meal. The Dazed and Confused was a wonderful after-dinner choice. The wine list is extensive (which rhymes with expensive) but will reward careful perusers with some great choices. Service could not have been better. A wonderful experience.

Yelp
We were on a mission to find an approachable French restaurant (food wise and atmosphere) for the teen's first "French cuisine" experience. She had been asking to try escargot and loves frog legs, and Le Crocodile has both on the menu. Sold! We then learned that Iron Chef Rob Feenie had recently taken the reins here. That's a bonus for us. Service was impeccable, the Sommelier hit the target with my wine recommendation, and the teen inhaled the escargot... we adults didn't get to try them at all. I read a lot of reviews complaining about the prices but our meal was quite affordable IMO (around $320 usd), considering the level of service and we each had an appetizer, main, and dessert. In Seattle the same meal would have cost double, no kidding. Chef also came out to talk to guests and take photos. The teen complimented him on the escargot Perfect belated 50th birthday dinner :) This place is at the top of our "must repeat" list for our next trip!

Yelp
Every detail so perfect! Every dish incredible, rich, flavorful, perfect in texture, with delectable sauces. The hostess was graceful, keen, and efficient. Pierre was the consummate server - we really felt taken care of. The menu was intriguing and the list of specials was long. The ambience was clean, careful, and poised. Potatoes were served so many ways in one meal and each preparation was delicious. The frog legs were perfectly prepared in a rich and buttery sauce, complemented by a rich tomato coulis. The lobster tail with truffles was perfect in texture and mild enough in flavor to really highlight the truffles. Our main course was taking longer than expected so Pierre brought a complimentary plate of their signature julienne fries that are incredibly crispy. The scallops were perfectly cooked and paired with white beets and potatoes, in a heavenly sauce that was rich and tart and velvety. But the pièce de résistance was the Grand Marnier soufflé with crême Anglaise served table-side. As the souffle approached I could already see it was jiggling with superb texture. The crême had just the right subtle hint of orange flavor, and the combination was magical. An absolutely perfect dessert that melts in your mouth. A really spectacular night out in every respect.

Yelp
Start off by saying what a great and enjoyable night it was to celebrate my wife's birthday at Le Crocodile. My wife, daughter and I all agreed the food was great we had appetizers, I went to my usual favorite the Tomato soup (did not disappoint) and main course lamb was our favorite. We finished it off with 4 not 3 desserts because they all looked so good we couldn't decide.

Yelp
Oooohhh miyeee gaaaaawwsh!! Is this real life right now?! Le Crocodile, you are everything that a fine dining experience should be. Cut from a different type of cloth and there's just no denying it. This was hands down the best dining experience that I had while in Vancouver! And if you've dined in Vancouver before, you know that the restaurants around these parts are nothing short of amazing. Celebrated my friend's birthday here and we couldn't have asked for a better time. First of all, the ambience is so charming. It's a traditional white table cloth setup with lovely wall art, neutral colors, and beautiful lighting. A very intimate and cozy environment here. The service is absolutely impeccable! Spencer and Sommelier Van Doren were excellent! They chatted us up and made us feel like family. The recommendations were endless and all of the food and wine rec's were spot on and absolutely scrumptious. Every staff member that we encountered was upbeat and cordial. Speaking of the food and wine; it's phenomenal! Superb. Having recently dined in Southwestern France, I can honestly say that my experience here was even better. Everything that we had here was beautifully plated and it all tasted fantastic. We ordered the following: *Escargots Maison - Exceptional!!! This was my first time ever having escargot (cooked snails) and it was so damn good. Apparently they don't traditionally prepare them like this in France. In this preparation, the outer shell is removed and the insides are cooked in butter, garlic, shallots, and other spices and placed inside of mini puff pastries cups. I think the replacement of the shells with the puff pastry cups make them taste less potent and the consistency doesn't seem as chewy. They arrived simmering in the butter and garlic. So, so good. *Magret de Canard et Foie-Gras Poêlé, Réduction au Cidre de Pommes - Incredible! This dish consists of roasted duck breast in an apple cider reduction that's topped with pan seared foie-gras and served with seasoned fries and vegetables. This was my friend's dish and it was executed perfectly. I'll be the first to admit that duck and foie-gras are menu items that I rarely ever go for when I see them on a menu. But Geezus Christ! This duck was so incredibly juicy! The apple cider reduction with the little pieces of apple paired perfectly. And the foie-gras was just... heavenly. So soft, so tender, and seared to perfection. The consistency of foie-gras usually throws me off, but I cannot deny that they slayed the hell out of this dish and had me wishing that it was my plate. *Jarret d'Agneau Braisé, "façon Provençale" en Cocotte - To die for, folks! This is a slow braised lamb shank with roasted garlic served atop truffle gnocchi and glazed carrots. You wanna talk about fall off the bone! Becaaauuuse THIS one was doing aaaallll of that, mmkay?! Slow braised is key here. You can tell that this shank was just marinating in delicious juices and spices. A quick pierce from my fork and knife revealed the most beautiful tender and almost flakey like layers of the meat. The truffle gnocchi nearly melted in my mouth. A mouthwatering dish indeed. *Crème Brûlée l'Orange - Just perfect! We actually had a few different desserts which I'll sum up later for the sake of character space, but the Creme brûlée outshined them all. The top sugary layer was perfectly torched. My friend took the first bite and it was so fun to watch her crack that perfect top layer. But the creamy interior is always the best part. We loved the fresh acidic notes and flavor from the orange too. I wish I could name all of the amazing wines that we had while we were there. Truth be told, Van Doren simply poured us the best of what they had and explained the notes and the pairings to us. Felt like we were at a fancy wine and food pairing in France for a second. The Pinot Noir and Sauternes dessert wines were exquisite. Also can't for the limoncello cocktail and dessert! Oh, and those yummy chocolate crocodiles to close out the night. Yes, they hooked it up for my friend's birthday celebration and we enjoyed every single second of it. Wow, I'm sooooooo impressed with Le Crocodile. I would make a special trip back to Vancouver just for this experience alone. This was one for the books. If you're dining here anytime soon, prepare yourself for one of the most memorable dining experiences ever.

Yelp
Celebrated our 6th anniversary dining at Le Crocodile Restaurant. Incredible French cuisine and wonderful service by Holly. I felt I was transported back to Paris. We ordered from the features of the evening: foie gras (appetizer) duck confit halibut complimentary: bread, shoestring fries, peach sorbet (palate cleaner) Thanks Le Crocodile for the memorable experience! Thanks Le Crocodile for the memorable experience!

Yelp
Came in with a reservation. The hostess and server were very nice and welcoming! They have a special menu but they don't have a physical listing of the special. I ordered the Foie gras platter and escargot as an appetizer. For the main course, I got the scallop with vegetables, rack of lambs and fries. Lastly we got complimentary sorbet and chocolate! I never had French food so this was a great experience!

Yelp
What a fabulous meal! Every bite was delicious. Service was friendly, engaging, and thoughtful. They offered several specials for both appetizers and entrees. The restaurant is small and setup similar to a traditional French restaurant in terms of tight-fitting tables. However, it still felt intimate. It was rather loud inside. Reservations book out a few weeks: use Tock.

Yelp
I loved Le Crocodile before Rob Feenie took over to buy his way into a Michelin star. Rob is a bully. He threatens his staff. If you want receipts, I'll drop them. Food prices are a decent value for what you get. Staff are professional and kind. Decent ambiance.

Yelp
When we saw Rob Feenie was at the helm of Le Crocodile we had to try it. We've long been fans of Chef Feenie and this meal didn't disappoint. From the moment we arrived and were greeted by Sophia our night was off to an amazing experience. It has been a long time since we can say the ambience, service, and quality and taste all match but this was the real deal. Despite it being a Monday night the place was vibrant and the service was impeccable. Stand outs on the menu include the tomato gin soup, seared foie gras and the amazing pear/earl grey palate cleanser and outstanding chocolate truffle. Do not hesitate to visit this spot- one of the best in the city and country.

Yelp
This place is an absolute gem - unmissable during any trip to Vancouver for our family. Brian took exceptional care of our table during our most recent visit. Never an empty glass, missing cutlery, or an awkward pause between courses. I'd like to say we switched things up this time, but we really didn't (other than adding caviar service, and swapping the veal medallions for the duck - we pretty much repeated the same meals we've had previously, no regrets). I love this place with the passion of a thousand suns - every dinner here is a delight.

Yelp
It wasn't just that dinner was perfect, with amazing dishes and great service from Zack. As we were finishing dinner the legendary Rob Feenie came out and was speaking with the front of house staff. Then he walked to our table and asked how dinner was. We said perfect and then he literally pulled up a chair and sat and chatted with us for a bit. Thank you Chef, and thank you to everyone for a lovely experience last week.

Yelp
Any restaurant that serves fois gras is off my list of where to eat. Fois gras is the tormenting process of force feeding geese or ducks by inserting feeding tubes down their throats so they have no other choice but to swallow huge amounts of boiled grains and fat. This fattens their livers grow into fatty livers well beyond normal size. I hope you boycott such restaurants so that owners will only serve humanely sourced menu items. I was looking for a place to go for a group event, but will find another place now that I see your menu on line.

Yelp
Food: 5/5 Service: 3.5/5 Ambience: 4/5 It's a new era for Le Crocodile, Chef Rob Feenie took over from renowned retired Chef Michel Jacob. It was their grand opening yesterday, and I was surprised I could book a table for two at 7:30pm with ease on OpenTable. We arrived and were greeted promptly by very friendly front of house. They apologized and said our table was not quite ready, as the customers are just finishing up their dessert. I recognize with grand opening they must be busy, so I said no problem we can wait. 30 minutes later, we're still waiting. I followed up with front of house, she said they already spoke to the customers 5 times and offered to move them to the bar. But they said no and wouldn't budge. I understand there's nothing much they can do at that point, but it's ridiculously unreasonable of that party to hog the table for 4 hours! My patience was running thin and getting hungry, so we moved to the bar. They offered us complimentary sparkling wine. We sat at the bar and started ordering food - bread, hamachi, lobster bisque as appys, duck breast & veal medallion for entrees. At that point, I was so hungry I wouldn't mind eating my entire meal at the bar. As the server put the plates and cutlery down, a table is finally ready for us at 8:15pm. Thankfully food came relatively fast. Bread, hamachi and lobster bisque arrived in a timely fashion. Hamachi dish is beautifully executed. Fresh, you can taste the umami of white soy, citrusy from the yuzu, nectarine and grape, as well as a hint of heat from the jalapeño. It was wonderful. The lobster bisque is so creamy, silky and rich, burst with flavors. Definitely a classic! The entrées came shortly after. The duck breast were cooked to medium rare, juicy and flavorful. The sinful decadent foie gras melted in my mouth, alongside the sweet vegetable, ginger carrot puree and sweet soy, it was simply heavenly. My hubs ordered the veal medallion with morel mushrooms, it's tender, well-seasoned and cooked to perfection. Every bite was amazing. After the entrees, I was debating whether we should get the chocolate tart or apple tart, since is for my husband's birthday and he's a chocolate guy, we went with the chocolate tart. I guess to make it up for our 45 minute wait despite having a reso, they kindly gave us both the apple tart and chocolate tart. The chocolate tart was too rich and heavy for me, but my hubs enjoyed it immensely. I on the other hand really enjoyed the apple tart, as it's on the lighter side and the brown sugar cardamom ice cream really complemented well with the tart. So as you can see, taste-wise every dish was perfect. I don't know if it's coincidental that most food that we ordered, aside from the hamachi, everything looks very brown. So when I'm taking pictures of the food and presentation-wise, I think they can do better. Service-wise, there're several kinks they need to iron out. When we put in the food order at the bar already and finally got seated at the table, that was not communicated to our server. So our server gave us the menu as he would to all other guests, and tried to explain the menu to us. I had to interrupt him and told him food order was placed already. Also it was the front of house who felt very apologetic about our long wait, and said she would send management over to talk to us. When a manager came, he phrased it as 'my staff said you'd like to speak to me'. Well... I didn't, it was prompted by the staff herself, so starting a conversation in that way was sort of odd. Also, I'm surprised our server didn't ask us how do we like the food after our first couple bite of each dish. It wasn't asked until we finished our entire meal. Was it because the kitchen was so confident in their quality and taste, that they instruct their servers not to ask? I don't know, I just have never experienced that before. Lastly, I noted it was a birthday celebration in my reso. Like any other restaurants, I thought they would have a candle or chocolate sauce written happy birthday on it, or maybe server saying happy birthday or have a bday card for the guest. But nope, none of that either. It's not a big deal to me personally, but if a regular chain restaurant like Cactus and The Keg would do that, it makes you wonder why a high end restaurant would neglect little things like that. After all, devils are in the details. With the long wait, I sort of guessed they would offer to compensate by taking care of the sparkling wine and desserts. But to our surprise, they took care of the appetizers too. I'm not here for free meals, but I appreciate their apology and gestures. For the food, I'd go back in a heartbeat. But for services and logistics, I'd probably wait for awhile for them to smoothen out the kinks before I visit again.

Yelp
Oui oui oui monsieur! Le Crocodile has been on my dinning list forever! This spot came highly recommended by Yelpies & via Top Ten lists. The location of LC is odd & one in that I would have never guessed that there'd be a restaurant located here. It's a classic old school feel, with top notch service. Ok so Frog Legs ... everyone compares it to chicken but it's not in my view - going by taste. I was definitely not thinking legs, thighs & breasts as I ate frog! Chicken is chicken, frog is frog - let's just be clear about that! I found the legs tasted quite different ... more neutral tasting if anything. It's hard to describe, as I kept dipping the legs into the sauce that came with them. To be honest I found the sauce to be the real hit! It was so scrumptious! However, I kept thinking of those wild bullfrogs you see on TV that make that loud irritating croaking sound! As far as frog legs go, I don't think I'll be needing to try them again ... I'm good. Marie Antoinette had me losing my head - superb cocktail indeed! The Grilled Tiger Prawns were super meaty & very delicious! I heart Prawns!!! Be warned though the cream sauce in this dish is very rich. The Lamb ... ahhhhhhh so delicate as butter the meat literally falls off the bone! Ahhhhhhh mazing or how do we say it in French ... magnifique! Classic fine French dining indeed. Ce repas était exceptionnel. Vive Le Crocodile! Merci beaucoup!

Yelp
One of the most amazing restaurants in Vancouver. We are going back on July and wanted to go for dinner while we are in Vancouver. The food was marvelous and will up date this on July when we eat there once again

Yelp
Main courses were great! Our table had the sablefish and duck. However the beef tartare and salad missed the mark. And I miss the shoestring potatoes from before. Overall a good restaurant.

Yelp
I had a reservation - highly recommended as this is a very popular restaurant! What I got: - glass of gamay - Beet Salad and Fresh Bufala Cheese (served with honey mustard dressing): clean combo with the cheese and sweet beet pieces! Loved this salad, but I'm very partial to beet salads! - Duck Confit (with pomme frites, curly endive salad, & calvados sauce): This was a heavy entree, especially considering I was already half-full, as it is 2 large duck legs! But the meat is very soft and juicy, and the skin very thin. I loved every bite (that I could eat, at least, as I couldn't finish it). They give you complimentary sorbet and chocolate crocodiles at the end - a nice and much appreciated gesture for sure! Definitely recommend for French food lovers!

Yelp
Quick Summary Very solid French restaurant and highly recommend to get reservations. The grilled tiger prawns with angel hair pasta was the most memorable dish. Service can be a bit slow, but it seemed intentional in this romantic environment, so prepare for a 2.5-3 hour meal if you come for dinner Food- 5 stars- everything was solid, so I recommend just ordering the foods you like. As stated above, the grilled tiger prawns were divine with that lobster velouté and Pernod Onion tort- this was off their specials of the night. It was pretty good Foie gras tasting- very good as well. Pretty large portion so make sure you have at least 4 people to share with Beef wellington- this was off their specials of the night. It was very good, but not the highlight of the night Grilled tiger prawns- this was spectacular. The lobster velouté worked so well with the angel hair pasta. I could've eaten plate after plate of this dish Service- 5 stars The servers were very accommodating, but do expect a 2.5-3 hour dinner. It seems they intentionally want this to be a long, romantic experience Bottom Line Very solid French restaurant. I can see myself coming here for date nights or in group settings, but probably not as a tourist due to the long service

Yelp
Absolutely perfect in every way. One of the finest restaurant experiences we've had. We have dined in some very good ones in France. Italy and other euro countries. Congratulations chef Feenie.

Yelp
Impressive selection of French fare that most snarky reviewers could only dream of fully comprehending. I personally have no real basis of comparison, having spent less than two weeks total in French speaking countries and having largely relied on the Michelin Guide while in them. And, having lived in cities, including Chicago, that emphasized new over old to the extent that I did not know that some of these preparations could be found in North America. The truth is that many people don't have the palates these days to appreciate this food, and it's not just the nouveau riche like me! The middle aged woman next to me talked a big game to her friend and the waiter while ordering sweetbreads. She then proceeded to gag on the first one and have a quasi panic attack before sending the whole plate back with the feedback that the viscera were "gristly and tough." Tough night for her. For me, it was a brilliant one. "Le Crocodile" Classic soup was delicious, lobster tempura and grilled scallop with endive salad was divine, Provencal-Style lamb shank also impressed. This is one of the best French restaurants I have ever eaten at.

Yelp
Amazing service and impeccable detail to a higher quality of food experience. I went here for dinner with my husband and it was a great experience from the moment we sat down it was clear how dedicated they were to a higher level of service I will say I am absolutely FLOORED by how affordable the food was my bill was around 385 with Tip and I couldn't be happier will definitely visit whenever I go back. Perfect for anniversaries Business meetings or in our case a date night

Yelp
We have been customers of this place since the 1980's. We wanted to see what Rob Feenie had done with it. Excellent food and service. But the prices are hard to swallow . Seven dollars for bread and butter ! We'll let the expense account brigade support Le Crocodile. Been there - done that .

Yelp
This was one of the highly recommended restaurants amongst many if the people I talked to and I could see why it was. I enjoyed every part of it. From the ambiance, service, quality of the food, and drinks. I recommend the duck confit as well as the fois gras! I ate the lobster bisque and it was also very different because it was with cognac. I didnt know if i was getting buzzed from the bisque or my drink! Fyi make reservations in advance!

Yelp
We celebrated our 12th wedding anniversary here recently. What a wonderful meal! The environment was beautiful, and the service was good. It was quite busy and bustling, but our table was tucked away in a corner, so we were largely shielded from the hustle and bustle. And although there was much activity, it never seemed noisy (which is a common complaint from me as my hearing isn't the greatest). About our meal: We finally tried Tartare for the first time, and instantly fell in love with it! Super-delicious! We also splurged on the (special) fresh grilled fois gras. OMG! My entrée was divine: Duck Confit with a savory custard tart topped with blackberries. It was decadent! Hubby's entrée was Veal Medallions with Veal Demi-Glace and Morel Mushrooms, which he loved. I decided to really go for broke on the French experience and go for the hot Grand Marnier Souffle with Creme Anglaise. Hubs got the warm apple tart with ice cream. We each got a couple of cocktails, which we were pleased with. It was a wonderful experience, and we recommend Le Crocodile for a special occasion.

Michael K.

Yelp
We had an excellent dinner. The staff were completely professional and knowledgeable. They were courteous and not intrusive. The layout is fairly European - close quarters compactly arranged. Le Crocodile however does use adequate size tables, so the food and serving items are not crowded - a welcome improvement over the Parisienne bistros. The food was nearly perfect. Lobster with saffron butter was beautifully presented and steamed correctly. Starters and salads were wonderful. The escargot served in a pasty 'shell' is a lovely alternative to the natural shell. Risotto with mushrooms was creamy and well balanced. The single flaw was the duck confit. Confit should be succulent. This version was perhaps subjected to excessive heat. It did not make the dish bad, it just could have been better. All in all a lovely evening.

Yelp
We returned to Le Crocodile on this long awaited trip back to Vancouver. The restaurant hasn't missed a beat, and it's as great as ever. Classic French dining is disappearing almost as fast as telephone booths, and even in Paris, the iconic dishes of the Julia Child French kitchen are missing from most menus. Le Crocodile carries that tradition into the 21st Century with pride. I ate exactly what I dined on eight years ago: Foie Gras three ways, Veal Medallions in a rich mushroom sauce, and a delicious French pastry for dessert. Brian was our professional and accommodating server. His suggestions and aplomb helped our meal become a lasting memory. Le Crocodile shouldn't be missed when in Vancouver. It's a special occasion restaurant, when every day should be a special occasion. Ooh La La.

Yelp
Been wanting to try Le Crocodile as it's a staple on the Vancouver food scene for decades. Finally went to celebrate a friend's birthday and love it's classic French style cooking and menu. First off, the service here is impeccable and hard to beat. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive except at the very end where it took awhile for us to get our bill. I tried the beef tartare and escargots, both which were divine and of generous portions. For the main, I choose the duck confit with the warm blueberry cake as dessert. Typically you don't equate fancy French restaurants with large portions so I was blown away with being more than full after a full course meal. In fact, I couldn't even finish half of the blueberry cake and sadly had to leave it behind. Warm atmosphere and definitely a great place for a special occasion, am glad I finally went!

Yelp
My partner and I came here for our 5 year anniversary last night. Had made a reservation and notified the waitress when she asked if we were celebrating anything. We ordered three entrees, plus the baguette for an ap. our particular waitress was the only downside. She faked a smile and appeared not happy to share the excellence of the restaurant. It was a fine dining experience through and through, except for the attitude of our waitress. We have been here before and every other staff looks happy to be sharing in the experience of Le Crocodile.

Mark K.

Yelp
Warm and efficient service--always with a smile. Not always the case with fine dining establishments. Food was outstanding. Classy understated decor. Lively. (Also not always the case with fine dining...)

Yelp
I love the location and space. The service was great and food delicious. My husband ordered escargot and it was really nice.
