An overnight stay booked on the spur of the moment in a town we had passed through a number of times. Cassel is a wonderful quirky town, although the end of August may nor be the best time to visit as so much seemed to be closed ! However, there was the benefit that the town was not overcrowded and there was not a lot of pressure on parking.||||L'Art Doize is easy to find being located in the main square, but gaining entry proved to be more problematic. The bar was closed and the entry to the hotel was locked however a phone call to the owner brought him to the door eventually. Once inside one had to negotiate a narrow steep staircase to a first floor room, and similar to the second floor room for our travelling companions, The rooms themselves were spacious if a little tired, and the attached bathrooms would benefit from updating. Room 1 on the first floor was very noisy being over the bar area and the traffic travelling over the cobblestones added to the cacophony. There is also a street light directly by the window plus the illuminated sign for the bar which the curtains did not really dim. It was too hot to close the shutter which may have improved the situation. The wardrobe door came away in my hand but no damage done, and I maybe should have noticed that the hinges were not attached! The bed was spacious, comfortable and clean as were the towels and facilities. The owners should consider installing a USB charging port in the room as there is free wifi and travellers may appreciate it.||||Unfortunately, the restaurant is closed on Thursdays so did not have the chance to sample the cuisine. The bar was adequately stocked and seemed to be popular. Very quirky decor was in evidence! Pre-ordered breakfast was served in the bar: fruit juice, coffee, croissant, petit pain au chocolate, butter and jam were on the table. ||||The rooms have to be vacated by 10.00am with a fine imposed for every 15minutes overstayed, which could be awkward for some travellers. ||||Overall, we had a pleasant stay at the hotel at a very reasonable cost ( apart from perhaps the breakfast ), and would consider a return at some point hopefully when the restaurant is open.
