Wow, what an amazing experience I just had here. Stumbled upon this beautiful pavilion and had the best Moscow mule and Tuna Tataki I’ve ever had. I will miss this place tremendously until I return. Please don’t miss out on the great food, drinks, and atmosphere!

We had an absolutely wonderful lunch here with the most convivial staff on hand in a beautiful outside setting. If you find yourself anywhere near Bonnieux, make your way here. The town is beautiful and market-day makes it all the more special!

The first time I had a wonderful lunch at le fournil was 15 years ago and I have to say that it has not changed... it’s still great! A wonderful formule for lunch, great food, impeccable service!

After days of pizza and burgers we stumbled across this gem of a cafe/glacier. We got salads (our first vegetables in days!) and they were fantastic: breaded chicken, fresh cheese, and crisp lettuce. We will be back soon.

Unfortunately the service was not professional and everyone had to wait quite long - had the feeling they were not well organised (maybe just today). I can recommend the lamb samosa, it was delicious. We were charged 8€ for a bunch of bad fries though… the gazpacho was also more of a dessert than anything.. the location is nice and shady.

We stopped here for a light lunch - the staff were very accommodating - able to have a fabulous cheese platter with a glass of wine. The interior of the restaurant is set into the rocky hillside and is unbelievably! Worth a visit.

Weirdly bad, had expectations reading their chalkboard menu, but then there were only two plate’s available. Some kind of selection of starters etc and prawns. Both dishes were the same deep fried tasteless stuff only that the starter was with a slice of bread and ham and some spreads. There were some very hard pieces in one spread. When asked where the prawns where we got explained that the food looked like prawns and it was an unfortunate translation.

An odd place! Disappointing too, because it was our choice for one of only 3 dinners in Bonnieux. Odd foods...."salads" that are different...made of eggplant, peppers, tomatoes, olives all in an oily sauce. Gazpacho with cream ( my wife didn't know this and is allergic so had to leave it....we didn't ask for a refund). Odd service....The owner/waiter almost forced us to order TWO cheese plates saying the "small" one was too little. So we left an entire plate uneaten. We won't go back....

Yelp
One of our favorite meals during our trip in the Luberon! Be sure to make a reservation, seats fill up. I believe they have only 1 seating for lunch.

Yelp
Excellent, Excellent, Excellent! We stopped by and left a verbal reservation for that evening with one of the staff. Upon arrival, we were welcomed, and allowed to pick our table. We were the only Americans dining, and it was a pleasure to be surrounded by French patrons. Our food was truly first class. We both choose the prix fixe and we're not disappointed. We both had mushroom soup for the starter, which was finely made with an egg and bacon crumbles. The main course was cod fish. The desert, chocolate mouse cake and my companion, creme brûlée. The food was delicious, creative, and the restaurant hit all of the fine points with heated plates, clean silverware, hint of Rosemary with the brûlée, and local wine recommendations that were spot on for our tastes. Our waiter was friendly and spoke good English, even though we used French. Inside, the restaurant is quite beautiful and pleasing to look at. It being fall, we sat by the window and looked out upon empty outdoor tables as we dined. Tres bien!

Yelp
We were visiting from San Francisco in November and had an excellent meal here. Every bite was seasoned and cooked well, from the amusè bouche to the dessert, it was delicious. The staff was extremely helpful, warm, fun and knowledgable, especially so because we speak very little French. A great find for our first night in Bonnieux. Definitely recommend.

Yelp
What a fantastic dining experience. We were actually in search of restaurant that serves traditional French cuisine. We had heard that this place was "sort of" traditional so decided to try it out. As it turned out, I wouldn't exactly call it traditional. I'd categorize it more as "new classic", in that they seem to take local ingredients and put a new spin on it. I believe the menu changes daily -- or if not daily, then frequently -- but if each day's menu is as good as today's, you'll be in for a treat. The service was impeccable. From start to finish, everything was perfect. Today's menu for me: - The amuse-bouche for the evening was a tasty pork terrine in zucchini brunoise (very finely diced zucchini). - For my starter, I had a "cappuccino" pea soup (I believe it had the "cappuccino" in the name because of the froth on the soup; it had nothing to do with coffee), topped with a scrumptious shrimp croustillant (looked kind of like a taquito). - My main was a "supreme de pintade poele", which is translated as a guineafowl (first time I've heard of such a bird). It had a similar texture to chicken, except a little bit firmer. But it had SO much more flavour than chicken. Served in a savoury sauce with asparagus, mushrooms, and spring onions. Truly enjoyable. - And for my dessert, I had the chocolate dessert of the day, which was some sort of soft, dense, fudge-like chocolate dome with a chestnut sauce. Absolutely delectable. My wife's starter was an asparagus dish served atop the oysters of some fowl. Her main was the fish of the day, which was a turbot, and was also excellently prepared and cooked to perfection. She had a fine selection of goat and cow cheeses for her dessert, all of which were very good. Once again, we both enjoyed every aspect of the food and the service here. Highly recommend!

Yelp
This is every fantasy of coming to the Luberon, fulfilled. Even though you are jet lagged, haven't slept in a day, you are trying hard to stay up and adjust. And here is the motivation you seek. Unpretentious, quiet, totally professional yet causal maitre d' & wonderful cool waiter with an earring and style, and a smile! A sip of Ricard which, poured over ice, turns milky white. An amouse bouche with white bean so creamy it's like cream. A chicken stuffed with fois gras. You're sipping local wine and eating fois gras in an ancient cave but it's no big deal. Stylish, smart looking people are dining all around you with family and friends, but it doesn't feel crowded, or rushed. The main course, a roast suckling pig in its own juices with roast garlic, celeriac, and raisins. The seeds crunch. You can skip dessert but why should you? Back at the cottage, the wind whistles in the eaves. The rain beats gently on the roof and you drift off to sleep...

Yelp
Le Fournil was a delight. It was a welcome return to a more classic tradition of French cooking, and balanced out our recent meals at places like Frenchie and Chateaubriand, in Paris. We were looking for a more accurate, traditional portrayal of French cooking, and this restaurant was simply perfect for that special meal out in the Luberon. We were stationed in Buoux, our new favorite place in the world, and ventured throughout the plateau routes to find Bonnieux's charming cliffside village, and this smart establishment, engineered into the ancient caves at the base of the city. A romantic, intimate setting, it still offered a slightly modern panache with their tables and design. It was a wonderful juxtaposition to the interiors. Our server was adorable, a welcoming, genuine, and warm gentleman. Obviously empathetic and in tune with our experience, he enhanced an already enjoyable meal - his recommendations and advice were honest, refreshing, and welcome. We started with an apertif, and moved into the menu.... It was 44.50euro w/o a cheese course, and 49euro w/ cheese. My wife got the former, and ordered the latter, so we just shared the course, and enjoyed the longer meal. We chatted with the owner about appropriate wines for our meal, and we had a lively discussion about my choice vs. a couple others, what each meant, how he knew the wineries, etc. It was appreciated, and he led us to a more appropriate bottle at a lesser price. Truly a restaurateur, who simply wants the meal to be perfect, regardless of potential upselling. 3 courses: I had roule de lapin (rabbit medallions) with peppered artichoke heart and beet vinaigrette, my wife had warm asparagus with morel with pearls and chicken stock reduction I had the wok roasted porc bigorre with the pea "sauce" (like a flavorful gazpacho - this meal was insane), wife had young goat fired two ways with the arab quinoa & stewed fruits. The cheese plate is a blur. It was brilliant layed out in a spiral, each cheese meant to be eaten prior to the following cheese. It worked your palette up, paired with the wine, and led us to our digestif and dessert. I got the creme brulee a la menthe fraiche, which was superb. My wife got the chocolat du moment... it was simply divine. In fact, switch that, but we shared both, so it doesn't matter. Both desserts were exceptional. We finished with a Sauternes and port, and the coffee simply made the meal. I wish life relegated us into this position more often... to eat like this, to be taken care of like this... is a rare and exceptional gift. Whether you are in Bonnieux and have time for lunch, or want to make a special night out in Provence, Le Fournil will provide a satiated palette and memories for decades. I love writing reviews for this precise reason...I am taken back to the moment. I remember walking out thinking they did food better than some of the best in Paris. I still stand by it... and can't wait to go back.

Yelp
WORST SERVICE EVER RECEIVED IN MY ENTIRE LIFE It has taken me almost a week to write a review about this dreadful place because that has been the time I have needed for recovering from the shock my friends and I had on Friday June 24th, 2016. In spite of spending our holidays in Bonnieux for 3 years now (where there are much more wonderful places than this pretentious cosy patio) we had never been there, so we decided to give it a chance and we made the booking two days earlier. All smiles from the owner then. I guess he knew us from passing by every single last week in June ( we love sitting by the beautiful épicerie Les Bonnilis just across the street and taste their gorgeous wines and charcurterie). For our absolute SHOCK, when we sat on Friday evening and requested the menus, everything began to be completely surreal. One of us is lactose intolerant and celiac, but not bad enough (thanks god) for ordering special menus. The only thing we requested the waitress was asking the chef if the sauce came with any kind of milk. On second later, the once upon a time all smiles owner came to our table. He began LITERALLY INSULTING us in French. He started to say how tired he was from ALLERGIES AND ALLERGIC, swearing, using all kind of insults and unimaginable bad words repeatedly. My friends, who do not understand French very well, were just asking me what was going on, and when one of them tried to tell this madman not to worry, to my definite surprise, he made her shut up, by touching her in the arm and saying: " shhhhhh, hush up!!!," leaving the table. We were astonished to death. My friends asked me what just happened, and when I was able to come out of my shock, I went inside the restaurant to ask him if he was out of his mind, as we never even had the time to tell no chef, nobody,to change anything from the menu, just wanted to know the ingredients in order to know what to ask for. HE HAD NO PROBLEM IN ACKNOWLEDGING ALL THE INSULTS HE HAD USED, BUT HE DID NO WANT TO APOLOGIZE (I told him to go outside and express his apologies to the ladies), SAYING HE WILL DO IT LATER. I said not later because we were leaving right then. He said: "FINE WITH ME." The chef came out of the kitchen, and I presumed he was going to apologize, but far from there, he reassured his "copatron's" opinions and told me to leave in THE RUDEST, INSULTFUL WAY. My friends and I decided to leave and not to take further actions, but simply ignoring the guy and make sure to spread the news among our friends in Bonnieux and abroad, as much as writing bad reviews in very single social network and website. I kind of regret not to have ordered a complaint form, but I am now determined to make my very best to discredit this inexplicably overrated restaurant. This is not only a big offense for all allergic people, but to any kind of customers. We did not have the chance to taste the food, but what could have happened if we hadn't liked any of the dishes? Would the chef have come out to kill us? A restaurant is not only the food (the menu seemed to be good, but quite expensive, by the way. There are many almost unknown places of the same kind in Bonnieux, more affordable and undoubtedly more gentle than this one, with excellent food and great service). Don't be tented by the location of Le Fournil or the good reviews. It is very easy to find good food in France, but the difference is always on how you are treated. And the way this man did treat us has nothing to do with allergies or tastes. This man is SIMPLY NOT SUITABLE FOR SERVING ANYONE, and he should consider to look for another job. We are writing to the Tourist Office in Luberon reporting this case, as we truly think this is counterproductive for the tourism in Bonnieux. The same letter will be sent to the town hall and of course, the Michelin guide writers, as I happen to be a collaborator for them. Hopefully, with these reports, the rest of the wonderful places in Bonnieux will shine above this.
