Yelp
An exceptional, charming English-style pub located in the heart of Fontainebleau.
When the highly-rated Restaurant La Petite Ardoise turned us away for not having a reservation, we wandered up the street slightly and we're charmed by the menu and the emptyness of Le Franklin. Turns out, this was a blessing in disguise for what turned out to be one of the best meals of our trip in France.
I've always loved pub and bistro fare and ambiance, and Le Franklin was no exception. Besides the necessary plate of cheese and charcuterie for apero, we ordered exclusively off of the daily specials menu: Châtaigne Veloute (Chestnut Soup) and a cut of steak referred to as a "fuax fillet". The soup is served with a dollop of creme fraiche, while the steak comes with a side of the most delicious thick-cut fries and sautéed veggies.
It is difficult with all the goodness, but you must save room for dessert, as there is a seemingly never-ending list of goodies make in-house. We landed on the Profitroles and Tarte Tatin - both of which are difficult to find traditional examples of in the States. Runners up included Mousse au chocolate and a Speculoos cake.
Service was excellent and even with all of our indulgences, the bill came out to around $35 a person - more than reasonable.
