Great croissants. Don't let the storefront fool you.

Google
The best croissants in the neighborhood, hands down. Truthfully, every baked good I ever get from here is the best. We love the croissants (plain, sweet, and savory), the Madelines, and the brioche bread. The brioche is my go-to when I’m baking a French toast casserole. Their desserts are also fantastic and frequently come in individual servings which is perfect for entertaining. They are a regular stop for me in the neighborhood. Staff are always kind and super helpful! They also have a plethora of grocer goods imported from France. So what if you can’t get to Paris? Just come here and Le French Tart Deli may do the trick.

Sullivan

Google
The best pastries in Brooklyn by far. The fresh croissants will make your day.

Google
Very cute deli/bakery. The prices and service are good. They carry a nice selection of French products and also have a nice selection of baked goods. I will be back to try some other items.

Mariah Johnson

Google
We got coffee and 4 pastries to try just for fun. Great staff - they’re French and know wtf they’re talking about.

Marisa

Google
I had high hopes for this place, but the almond croissant was inedible—soggy, and stale, and had a strange, cardboard-like aftertaste. For $5.75, I expected a fresh, flaky pastry with a rich almond flavor. Unfortunately, it didn’t come close. I barely managed two bites before throwing it out. The service was friendly, but that didn’t make up for the fact that I couldn’t even eat what I came for. Definitely not going back—what a waste.

Google
Wonderful French pastries , sandwiches, drinks and anything French food! Experience complete with French music playing in the store :)

Google
really good pastries and savory options! i got a croissant with tomato and cheese and it was sooo good. the store even has a great smell when you walk in. one of the staff when i went there this time was a little rude since i didn’t know how to pronounce the croissant i got. but usually they are very nice!

Google
I’ve had a LOT of croissants in New York, this was probably the best. (The plain, of course.) Perfectly cooked, buttery, melt in your mouth. Can’t wait to come back!

Yelp
My husband and I were in the area visiting friends and when we walked by on a Saturday morning. They said we had to stop to try their croissants and I'm glad we did. This place is literally no frills, but the croissants SLAP. Le French Tart Deli is the definition of "Don't Jude a Book by it's cover". You can smell the fresh paisteries from down the block and once you take that first bite you understand. Crispy, flaky exterior and warm buttery interior. You cannot make a more perfect croissant. I think France would be proud lol I wish we had more time and appetite to try more food from the menu but I guess that means we just need to come back.

Shannon H.

Yelp
Fake french. The man at the front desk gave me the wrong pastry when there was no one else in the store and overcharged me for mints. Be careful and check where the products in this store were made before you overpay for them.

Lily T.

Yelp
Why so rude every time? Counter guy acted like I ate his cat when I said "good morning". I love their croissants but makes me not want to go there again.

Yelp
Tiny little French deli. Excellent croissants (both regular, chocolate, and double chocolate) as per the sign. Their kouign-amann (served in the mini way/as a kouignette is a very solid version also as is their macarons. Tarts are a bit small for the price but fresh. Sandwiches are small for the price but tasty and clearly with fresh ingredients. The chaussons aux pommes is also quite good with the same buttery pastry. The feuillatine is also very goood for those who wants something with chocolate and hazelnut (as in a lot of people.) I've had better Paris-Brest but still solid. Properly made taste buttery pastry. Hard to argue with this spot. Popular for a reason but as noted by many very tiny and it's a bit hard to walk around inside.

Mike C.

Yelp
Unpleasant service at the counter almost every time. Weird sarcastic condescension. Good croissants and other pastries. I've been here many times, spent a lot of money here, at another place I might have a friendly rapport with the storekeeper. But instead I get this bizarre hostility. Not worth it anymore.

Yelp
Good morning!!!!! - and happy cafecito!! Because that's what this place is great for- and of course everything sweet!! This is such a cute - cute cozy and warm coffee shop/ bakery- deli/bodega- super market- lol!!! Careful as you walk in- there were 3 people in there and we ALL- tripped, bumped, tapped and/or dropped something on our way in or out or both. Lol!!!!!!! There was a consistent line and traffic- seemed like everyone was a regular- which speaks volumes!! I ordered an apple puff (chaussons aux pommes) which I pronounced correctly but the attendant made a failing attempt to correct me. Not the most cheery guy to order your joyful sweets from in the morning - sorry. Smile and no one likes an unhappy smarty pants! :( La Fermiere yogurt and croissant were perfect and delicious!! Just as I had expected!! Fresh and fluffy!!! Super filling but light!! Coffee and pastry went perfectly- the items complimented one another- I will ask pastries to be warmed next time.

J P.

Yelp
I like the speciality items, but if you're going to be a French BAKERY-- delivery boxes arriving in front that say "frozen croissants" is super lazy. If you want a much more engaged French bakery, try Bicyclette right in front

Yelp
It's sad to me that the word "tart" is in their name, but the tarts we bought were all stale and ended up in the garbage. The chocolate croissant had pretty much no chocolate at all. Why don't businesses care about their product anymore?

F L.

Yelp
Saw the sign and came in to check out the "#1 croissant". Well, I thought it meant "number one best", but it turned out to be number one worst. Please look at the attached photos and decide if you would call that a croissant. :-) As for the taste, well, I only gave it one bite before I decided baking soda is not my thing, not in a croissant. Baguette: I knew it didn't look right, but I wanted to give it a chance to prove itself (against a baguette I got from an Italian bakery cross the street on next block). But it simply failed.

Yelp
Decided to order lunch here during the weekend. My husband and I are wanna-be Francophiles and we're looking for a French cafe style meal. We were very pleased with our meal here! He ordered the Le Jambon Gruyère Sandwich and the Le French Tart Salad. Both were flavorful and excellent portions. I ordered the Broccoli and Cheddar quiche, that comes with a side salad. It was perfectly crisp on the outside and creamy on the inside. Exactly what I was looking for. I also ordered the Almond Croissant that, dare I say almost verged on too much almond paste (is that even a thing??). It was flaky, buttery, full of almond flavor and the size of my own hand. I was thrilled!

Cassie C.

Yelp
This is a small neighborhood French deli stocked with some french groceries, frozen french dishes, beverages kept in refrigerators with a selection of baked goods including pastries, tarts and cakes. They also serves coffee, tea and crepes made to order. Service is fast. Pastries are up to my expectations. I have a soft spot for brownies and their version is chocolaty, moist and adequately dense. Will return to try other goodies.

Yelp
Oh boy the croissants here are to die for. They have several varieties of croissants (plain, almond, chocolate, ham & cheese, etc.), cookies, baguettes, sandwiches, and several other treats and grocery items. The sandwiches are no joke -- they pile them high with fresh ingredients and of course use their homemade bread. The store is pretty cramped and gets busy in the mornings, especially weekends. If you want to browse, I recommend going in the afternoon once the morning rush has cleared. Otherwise you'll guaranteed be in someone's way or holding up the line.

Yelp
Wow what a hidden gem. I always wanted to try this place but every time I pass by it has been packed. So today I happen to be up early and said, let me try Le French! This was one of the best Croissants I've ever had. Hands down. I got the creamcheese raspberry, and it was glorious . Very fresh, and lighter than I imagined. Very very tiny spot but what a beautiful place. I wish there was some more seating outside because right now there is only a bench. They just took over the place on the corner, so they actually have so so much room for seating now. But maybe that would bring TOO much traffic and they wouldn't be Able to manage it. And wait the smell is unbelievable! Make sure to check out this hidden Brooklyn gem!

Yelp
When you walk by this place, you get hit with the most amazing scent of butter. The store is tiny and cramped and chock full of French grocery items. There's also cases of cheeses, charcuterie, pate, sauces, etc. And don't even get me started on the bakery section! Croissants, pastries, breads, quiches, it's amazing they can have such a variety in such a small space. I had to restrain myself from walking out with an armload of things. But I did pick up some duck pate, tarts, plus a Parmesan and portobello quiche that was out of this world delicious. Prices are a little up there but it's to be expected. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
BEYOND RETAILING This is much more than a store. The French Tart Deli is an institution. The most important part of it is what you don't see: it's OVENS. The OVENS occupy the best part of the space, it's corner. This is not a customer-centered store, but an oven-centered. And it pays off; everything that comes out these ovens is Uber-delicious: - Baguettes. The only place in NY where crispy and tender baguettes are made. - Croissants - Kitsches - Pan au chocolate - Tarts HUMANS Humans are educated here in the love for bread and everything that comes with it; and butter based pastry, and everything that comes with that. You just have to wait to have full support of the very nice but fast serving employees; who arr the ones running the oven. If you live near by, considered yourself blessed.

Yelp
Superbe boulangerie francaise a Brooklyn! Great French bakery in Brooklyn! Very pleasantly surprised, it is posted in front of the bakery that they sell the best croissant in NY according to the NY Daily News. Indeed, their viennoiserie are very good, with a lot of choice in classic french bakery and pastry. For my part, I tried the chocolate croissant and the apple crum tart which were very good. You can also take hot drinks to go, choose from a large number of macaroon flavors, or let yourself be tempted by their very good croissant. They also have a lot of imported French products, like candies and regional French specialties... I have never seen such a "frenchy" store in the United States, it was really nice to find this diversity in the classic french products.

Yelp
I ordered a cappucino and latte from seamless. Don't let deli at the end of le French tart fool you the coffee is the bomb and very strong I loved it ! I highly recommend if you like coffee you order, but I saw they have a lot of others things and looks great!

Yelp
This place is fantastic. We grabbed lunch in the form of a mini baguette with ham and gruyere, a tomato croque monsieur, and a ham and cheese croissant. Along with some French sparkling drinks and a peanut chip, it was a fun treat. We will definitely go again - such a huge selection of delicious looking things - both for meals and desserts!

Yelp
Havent ordered from Le French Tart Deli in a while, decided to order lunch. I ordered La Poulet crepe and a nutella madeleine. The crepe was made with buckwheat, had a great flavor, the chicken with the bechemel was lovely. The salad had a great dressing, which there was a little more salad. The madeleine was wonderful. Nice portion size and the cakey texture combined with nutella is a treat. Glad I gave them another try.

Yelp
The last 4-5 times I've visited I've been met with really nasty service. The guy at the register is always in a foul mood, sarcastic and just rude. We asked for a baguette sandwich with brie and fig for our son. On the walk home we noticed there was meat in the sandwich. We brought it back and the guy's response was "just pull off the meat." Sorry, it doesn't work that way. We are strict vegetarian and my son doesn't want ham flavored cheese. Won't be back here, I'll be across the street at the new bakery that just opened and sells delicious, fresh baguettes for $2.

Yelp
Really flaky and cheap croissants. It is my go-to place for croissants (although they aren't open on Mon/Tue)
google avatar

Yelp
FRESH WARM CROISSANTS! Super cute deli with imported goods from France. I found cookies and souvenir snacks in this store that I brought back from France a couple years ago. Prices are a little higher but that's expected. We came on a Saturday morning and the line was around the corner but I only waited for 15 min before getting in the store. I felt a little rushed since they only allowed 3 people inside (covid) and there wasn't any time to browse but I managed to pick up a couple items along the way to the cashier. This place is awesome if you want to prep for a picnic or charcuterie extravaganza. Fresh baguettes, quiche, croissants, cheese, chocolate, jamon, prosciutto, cookies, and more! Will definitely visit again!
google avatar

Yelp
Get drawn in by the smell of baking butter and stay to realize the food tastes even better than it smells. A LOT to offer here. The croissants are the best this side of the Atlantic Ocean (and frankly better than many I've had in France). And the baguettes are classically perfect, and prepared throughout the day so you can pop in at 4-5pm to grab one fresh for dinner. But it's more than just a bakery. The egg sandwiches are off the charts, and the selection of French meats, cheeses, and dry goods is unmatched in the area. You can pull together a very impressive happy hour or appetizer tray very quickly!
google avatar

Candice S.

Yelp
DOUBLE STUFFED CHOCOLATE CROISSANT! Def my favorite spot for croissants. They also have mini baguettes which is great cause I never can finish a whole one before it goes stale sadly! Double cream cheese also worth the splurge.
google avatar

Yelp
Super happy to have discovered this French Store (I am french/American). I found all I am missing in one stop! from my childhood cookies & candies, real charcuterie (yes rillettes), and so much more. I got some MERGUEZ and my friend got ALIGOT. For my next party I'll get their affordable "ready snails to oven" for sure! They also have a menu to go savory crêpes and croque monsieur ... I did not buy but I am sure they are excellent!
google avatar

Kenea T.

Yelp
Love their macaroons and cheesecakes!! The chai latte I had the first time was amazing and every time after that , was watery. Too expensive to gamble if it's going to a good or bad chai so I stopped ordering. But other than that great French bakery and the baristas are always polite.

Samrawit A.

Yelp
This is definitely one of the top five places that would make me miss life in Brooklyn Heights. I never tasted anything more rich and buttery. This is the kind of chocolate croissant I would imagine being served at a cafe in Paris. Idk how it can get any better.
google avatar

Fiona T.

Yelp
This is a nice place and will definitely go back again . I got the palmier on this visit. They sold some French products that you would see all the time at the stores in France . The person working told me that they open at 6:30 am and to 8pm and closed on Monday .
google avatar

Kate S.

Yelp
I could not believe how much money I dropped in the store after randomly passing it by and being seduced inside by the sweet smell of croissants baking in the back. I thought I would just go in to buy a croissant and instead I ended up walking away with ravioli, cheese, jam, quiche, and anything else my t-rex arms could carry out of the store. Everything inside is so amazing looking and your mouth literally starts watering. I still cannot get over how good it smelled inside of this small shop, that I'm going to be dreaming of their croissants until I can come back again.
google avatar

Mark R.

Yelp
Charming, tiny little French bakery and deli/supplies shop. Almost all of the baked and prepared food I've had here are rock solid and very tasty. They also have a small selection of French super marches supplies one of which is my favorite body soap.
google avatar

Blaire F.

Yelp
The service was an absolute stand out. I walked Into this tiny store and could not control myself. I had to get everything because it was fresh off the boat, literally. So many delicious goodies from Italy and France and wherever else. The chocolate croissant was warm and devoured as soon as I got to the car. There was so many options I had to bookmark this place just to remind myself to go back and try more!
google avatar

Anisa A.

Yelp
Super cute, as in - the store is small, dainty and filled with treats and delicious pastries. So far I've been lucky enough to come in when the pastries were fresh out of the oven!
google avatar

AnnEliz C.

Yelp
Only restaurant we ordered from twice. Wow. Crepes are superb. Mushroom and cheese, ham and cheese wow. A lightly dressed salad is included and the slight bitterness of the greens is a perfect compliment to crepes. Interestingly enough, deserts were not as great. Fine, but not worth a re-order.

Anna L.

Yelp
This place is next level. I have tried croissants from dozens of bakeries across Brooklyn and Manhattan, and Le French Tart Deli easily tops the list. The croissant struck the perfect balance of crisp on the outside of buttery / soft on the inside. And...it was warm (just out of the oven!). On the outside, the place looks like your average deli. Don't be fooled. Le French is not a typical NY deli. Thankfully the sign that read "NY Daily News #1 croissant" caught my eye. It's worth a trip to Cobble Hill to try this croissant.
google avatar

Jinhee H.

Yelp
Must must must visit. You won't get disappointed by their authentic French pastries and their service. It is the best bakery/deli in NYC.
google avatar

Racquel E.

Yelp
I live very close to this place, which is dangerous only because everything is amazing here. Their croissants are the best I've had in the city. I've had their almond, chocolate, multigrain, and plain croissant (Yes, I've been here a few times...). They have a mini sizes too which is convenient if you want to try different ones. I've also tried one of their croissant sandwiches and their macarons which were good too. Plus, the customer service is amazing. Super friendly. If I could give this place 6 stars I would.
google avatar

Mussie L.

Yelp
Perfectly crispy and flakey on the outside, beautifully light and soft in the inside. Best croissant I've ever had! The second I walked in, even under my mask, I was overwhelmed by the wonderful aroma of freshly baked goods.
google avatar

Miriam S.

Yelp
We are regulars now. Who could pass up their daily baguettes (we had the one with ham and cheese - wow!) or their famous croissants? We tried their brioche and it was the best I've ever had. Can't wait to taste more of this fantastic menu! And to test out all of the scrumptious French speciality treats here.
google avatar

Debbie F.

Yelp
The nicest little spot! Half bakery, half french specialty store. Best croissants next to Paris, light and flaky. The smell of the bread baking is worth the wait in line. The place is tiny and now allowing one person at a time. Super nice people as well! Love it!
google avatar

Lou J.

Yelp
Such a welcome sight to see on a cool morning. Coffee was great. ( my wife said so) and the Ham and Cheese Croissant was a much needed change of pace from the usual Bacon, Egg, and Cheese. Merci!

Lorna S.

Yelp
I welcomed this new shop near me in Brooklyn Heights since I craved a good baguette (and I am not able to walk down to Almondine sadly) and good pastry. I bought two croissants, one baguette and one hazelnut cream pastry. NOT GOOD. Baguette has no resemblance to any French one. It was heavy and tasteless. They had large trays on wheels of these and I suspect they they either buy their bread elsewhere or buy the dough and bake it in the store. The pastry was soggy and the cream too sweet. The croissant was OK, probably pure butter and flaky enough but not of the high quality I expected. Anyone in the Heights or Dumbo should just go to Almondine, the best in the city...but be warned: the price of their individual pastries has doubled! Some of them are over $7.00!!! Sorry but no pastry is worth that! Their baguettes are now even more expensive as are their croissants, but at least they are top quality if you can afford them. There are apparently enough rich yuppies in Dumbo to buy their expensive sandwiches. But dont waste your money at Le French Tart.
google avatar

Olivia T.

Yelp
Fantastique. The best croissant I've had since I was in Paris. Friendly service and amazing selection of pastry and cold meats.
google avatar

Dana B.

Yelp
This place is legit! I hadn't had a cannelé since I last visited Bordeaux, and this didn't disappoint. Perfectly caramelized on the outside, custardy and chewy on the inside - yum. The selection is so vast and everything looks so fresh. The owner is so lovely and has such a great story. Clearly he is someone who deserves our support!

Abbey E.

Yelp
This is the best croissant sandwich in New York. We go for our birthday breakfasts every year.
google avatar

Frank K.

Yelp
Best croissants in the city! Try the ham & cheese, baked with beschamel sauce. Amazing fresh handmade macarons too :)
google avatar

Natalie C.

Yelp
My husband and I were delighted to stumble on this tiny shop with an incredible selection of French goods and food! We couldn't believe our eyes when we saw the glass cases in the back with tons of quiches, macarons, breads, tarts, croissants... all fresh baked in house. We got the spinach and goat cheese fougasse, an amandine tart, and two macarons. All were fresh and delicious and left us shaking our heads in wonder. We are already talking about going back tomorrow for pain au chocolat and baguettes. Here's hoping the rest of the neighborhood will recognize what a treasure this place is, and support it accordingly!!
google avatar

Mary C.

Yelp
I hardly leave reviews anywhere, but this this place deserves the praise! My partner and I were walking past Le French Tart Deli, and I've never been so enticed by the delicious scent of fresh baked croissants in my life. We immediately hopped in line and purchased a selection of baked goods (including croissants). They did not disappoint, everything was so delicious, the person who helped us with our selection made a few excellent recommendations and was very friendly. I cannot wait until the next time I'm on Court Street to go back! Highly recommend :)

Yelp
A Cobble Hill gem with super friendly staff and huge varieties of french baked goods, snacks, chocolates, fresh pastas, sauces and cheeses. This is our favorite place to stop by on a walk!

Hannah H.

Yelp
Wow, these are absolutely delicious croissants! Both the regular and the apricot with french cream were perfect. The regular chocolate croissant has barely any chocolate at all in it, so go for the double chocolate croissant. I'm looking forward to trying items from their extensive deli menu.
