On the Grid : French Cafe

"Stopping by the French Market Cafe is like a Parisian mini-vacation... and not just in your mouth! No doubt you'll hear more French than English while you dine on what is undeniably the best patio in town. Inside is also packed with authentic French provisions. Don't expect a smile from the lady who's been working the counter for years, just order your coffee and Le Cheval sandwich, sit down and enjoy this little slice of Europe in California." - The Branding Farm

They have a regular booth at Playa Vista Farmers market every Saturday. For $17 you get a pretty decent size of quiche with a side of salad with balsamic dressing. They have different flavors of quiches and we picked the chive and goat cheese. A bit light on the chives but you can definitely taste plenty of goat cheese throughout. Pretty yummy when you are hungry!

We went here directly after work and we are the first person to arrived here. Be ready to wait for your food as they prepare it, make sure to keep your friends talking and make some stories before getting a nap. The staff is so friendly and accomodating.

Google
Good food, great cozy atmosphere. The french toast was unlike any I've had anywhere else. Very flavorful and the texture was almost like a custard, delicious and not too sweet. Jamel's customer service was EXCELLENT he really went above and beyond to make the customers in the cafe feel appreciated and welcomed. I would definitely recommend this place.

Google
A little piece of Paris! This café is an absolute gem—cozy atmosphere, delightful coffee, and the most incredible pastries I’ve ever tasted. The croissants are buttery and flaky, and every bite feels like a trip to France. A must-visit for anyone who loves authentic French baking!

Ishsha S. Foster

Google
Friendliest staff ever!! (I got to practice my broken French) And ofc the yummiest pastries! Definitely will come back 11/10

Google
Amazing little French spot off Washington. Food is delicious. I enjoyed the salad and Spanish omelette, and my girlfriend loved her ham and Swiss omelette (and she’s picky). Owner is super nice and has a family

Google
I was recommended the chocolate almond croissant and it was hard rock, I had to throw it away. I called back and they assured me all bakery is freshly baked every morning, there’s no way it was baked the same day when it felt like eating plastic. The worst croissant I ever had in the westside. Reviews show that I’m not the first one to complain about it

Michelle Perrault

Google
Best pastries in town! I crave the cinnamon roll and orange roll. The flavor and dough texture is unreal. The cafe's smell of freshly-baked goods is heavenly. Of all the cafes to choose from, this is my neighborhood favorite.

Yelp
Their chocolate almond croissant is worth the trip alone. Pro-tip: their to-go quiches come in lots of varieties and 2 sizes. Get a couple of personal sized quiches to keep in the freezer for a rainy day. Large, interesting menu. Food is always stellar. Gorgeous pastries. Very chill, often quiet. It's counter service with a small dining room and some outdoor tables.

Yelp
Had a taste of a friend's veggie omelette at the farmer's market and was instantly intrigued. Picked up my first one at the shop about a week later and became hooked! I don't know what the secret is, but by God there is one! I seldom order omelettes but will go out of my way for theirs, and the handsome French service doesn't hurt ; ) Honorable mention to les canales, which are the best kind of trouble!

Yelp
Hands down, the most delicious mixed berry muffins ever!!! Plus side, they don't sent my glucose sky high. YAY!!!! Service is wonderful. Always friendly, smiling and happy to answer any questions. Indoor and outdoor door seating. Lots of sunlight. Calm and relaxing music that isn't too loud. Perfect place to catch up w friends or enjoy a good book.

Yelp
That Lady and I were in need of a bite and we decided to try it after driving past it in several occasions. Small but with an ambience. The croissants aren't bad at all, the French Toast is marvelous and they make a great coffee con latte. The quiche is very tasty. For an early morning bite or a quick breakfast this is very nice.

Yelp

Yelp
We hadn't known about this Café until we saw a "Too Good to Go" offer yesterday. I was greeted warmly at pick-up by the woman behind the counter. Even though I was a few minutes early, she readied my bag off savory and sweet goodies -- a Ham & Cheese Croissant (4/5) -- nice, flaky croissant but would like more ham and cheee filling -- Fruit Tarte (Croissant) (4/5), and Blueberry Muffin (3/5) -- needs more blueberries. The Café has a handful of tables indoors and a couple on the sidewalk. It seems to be geared more for take-away. The shop is bright and cheerful. Street parking only -- I found a space two doors away on Washington. Overall, a very good experience. We'll be back.

Yelp
Firstly exposed to Le Frenchie was when I found it on Too Good Too Go app. Then I figured it's super close to my home and ended up paying a visit. The cute cafe came in pretty simple design, interestingly decorated with some wall paintings which they did sell. They offered pretty rich options of brunch menu including pastries, egg-based ones, various quiches, crepes and waffles. It's nice that they even put some displays on the counter so you could visualize the dishes. I wasn't that hungry so went for quiche and croissant. The quiche came in pretty decent size given the affordable price. I was hooked by some of their quiches, but unfortunately the ones left at that time were Lorraine and Tomato, while others were just name tags. Ending up with the first, I found it bit too eggy and tad greasy for my liking. It still tasted pretty good and would say it's nice value for money, but would prefer it to be more on cheesy side. I also went for their Chocolate Almond Croissant and it's nice that they could reheat it for me. The pastry base was kinda dry and not as flaky as I expected. The almond paste and chocolate filling weren't much and nothing special to call out. As the canele was called out as one of the favorites, I did get it for to-go and reheated it myself at home. It tasted decent though I wouldn't call it best one in town. Would fancy bolder vanilla hint and more buttery aroma. Probably next I should go for the scrambled eggs or french toast which seemed to be their more popular ones.

Yelp
Unfortunately I was left with more to crave with this small breakfast place. Very cute on the outside and in a fairly quiet space. They have a few chairs and tables in the front and about three inside. They offer fresh pastries to grab and go. I dined in with my friend as she is local and is all about supporting small businesses. Let me tell you, no amount of sugar could fix the coffee I ordered. We both ordered an iced vanilla latte, one with whole milk and one with oat. Upon the first sip we both locked eyes and agreed we needed some type of sweetener as it was very bitter. We were both displeased to realize the sugar we added was not saving the coffee we desired. The food was decent, I realize there are no updates photos of the menu. They offer lunch sandwiches now which are decent. My friend ordered their pesto sandwich which is vegetarian and I just has cheese and tomatoes in between two bread slices coated in pesto. She only took about four bites if that speaks on how it tastes. I ordered the chicken sandwich on the menu which is described as chicken, mayo and mixed greens. Let me tell you, I am unfortunately one of those people who hate avocado. When I received my sandwich which was accompanied by fruit I was flabbergasted to see there was avocado and tomatoes in my sandwich as well, I immediately picked them off and would've appreciated them listed on the menu as I would've probably saved them time and produce if I would've known in advance. I also would have asked for a freshly made sandwich but I was starving and they took about 23 min to make two sandwiches (we were the only active table sitting there), I didn't feel like waiting any longer. Overall it didn't really seem like a place I'd voluntarily go back to.

Yelp
$19.83 (Food: french toast - french croissant served with triple berry, whipped cream and syrup. Drink: water) Le Frenchie Cafe monologue: France came to Culver City, CA and I am so happy! The weather was perfect this past Friday morning. Sunny. About 60 ish. Light breeze from the east (well, not really sure but that just sounds good).  Immediately, when I arrived, the atmosphere invited me to sit and enjoy a meal or sip on some coffee, or tea, and take the moment in. I went inside and was excited about all of the delectable options. I asked the young lady at the counter about the toast...it was french. She directed me to the display case. The presentation activated my it's time to eat neurons and her explanation sent me over the moon. Yelp cousins, let me tell you something. This french toast was beyond amazing. The first bite made me think about all that is wonderful in this world. The second bite on thru the cleaning of any and every morsel of my plate put me in a world of gratitude. No syrup needed! As people arrived, I watched as Jamel made everyone comfy. Opening table umbrellas, putting tables together,  bringing over chairs; his actions put you in a position of wanting to come back and spread your experience...I'll be back and I'm telling/asking ya'll to go experience it too! Oh p.s. - I'm a tad confused. Several internet pages call this restaurant Laurent's "Le" Coffee Shop but Yelp has it titled Le Frenchie Cafe (which took a while for me to realize so I could leave this review). Could you shed some light on this?

Yelp
Came here on a scorching hot Sunday morning and the line was out the door, but the hard working staff was handling it with precision and speed. Had the Belgian waffle which was superbly executed with fresh fruit and cream. Also grabbed an orange roll that was to die for! I can't wait to go back soon. They were even extra nice to my pooch

Yelp
Delicious! Got food and took it home. Blueberry muffin, ham and cheese croissant, and another savory croissant. The ambience there is really lax and chill. Looks like a great place for locals to meet up for coffee. I live close but wish it was walking distance. I'll be back :) the man who gave me my order was very kind

Yelp
Everything I have tried , well except the salade nicoise, has been great. The barista makes the best dirty matcha blended I have ever had!

Yelp
I'm a true LA girl thru and thru, a local French bakery is a must. I have found my new favorite French bakery, the one I went to for years closed so I'm so happy I found this spot. The customer service is amazing and the food is perfect. The use fresh ingredients and you can tell. I highly recommend this spot.

Yelp
Laurent's "Le" Coffee Shop is a French bakery cafe right right on Washington Blvd. The owner Jamel is from France and they do everything French style. La Vie En Rose is playing as I'm writing this, and it's such a peaceful start to my day. It's amazing, it's a typical French place. The people inside are amazing and the hospitality is top notch. I went with the coffee with almond milk, and the egg scramble with goat cheese and tomatoes, served with a side salad with their house-made vinaigrette. There's street parking in the neighborhood, just read the signs, and there are meters right out front. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, and it's casual where you order at the counter and your food gets brought to you.

Yelp
Never have to wait. Croissants and waffles are the best in town. Perfect neighborhood spot!

Yelp
What an absolutely lovely hidden gem! This place is unpretentious, cozy and perfect for a laid back breakfast, brunch or lunch. Not sure if this is always the case but I actually loved that there was no music playing. You can so rarely find a quiet place to sit in the city; I really enjoyed that. They have free wifi, so it's perfect to get some emails done over coffee. I got the Greek pita, which was basically a spinach, tomato and feta scramble wrapped in warm pita bread. It came with a side salad and fruit. Everything tastes super fresh, ingredients clearly great quality. Delicious, simple, and relatively healthy! I also got a French roast coffee, which was pretty good. Well balanced - didn't taste too bitter or burnt. Wouldn't come here just for coffee, but it was a nice addition to my breakfast. Next time, I'll have to try some of the croissants and other pastries in the case! The staff is friendly without being overbearing. The whole vibe felt very neighborhood hole-in-the-wall in the best way. Definitely stop by if you're in the area looking for a charming, relaxing little cafe!

Yelp
Excellent customer service and their chocolate almond croissants are simply the best! Highly recommend!

Yelp
What a find! Staying at an airbnb nearby and discovered this gem!! Seriously might be the very best cup of coffee I've ever had! Smooth and perfectly brewed. The flavor was simply perfect!! Asked the owner what his secret was...he told me he makes every cup with love! Also had the avocado toast which was delicious and served with the freshest fruit! I'm visiting for a week and might just be here for breakfast every morning!

Rachel B.

Yelp
Food and Service amazing. Good spot to share with friends and family. Totally recommend

Yelp
This is the best French bakery I have ever been to. I have been to France and this cafe beats all of the authentic French bakeries. Also, the vibe this place gave me is just magical. I would rate this bakery 6 stars. If you ever have spare time you need! to come to this place. Food is delicious and service is excellent.

Yelp
The food was really good and the ambience matched the delicacies they had. We will come back, definitely!

Yelp
Because they have a fabulous outside sitting area and because of pandemic we have been coming here more often. AND we have not been dissatisfied. We learned from the first time not to order the pancakes. We have tried their other items in the menu and we are super happy customers. I highly recommend. They have good service and their have almond milk for your coffee upon request. Their inside sitting area is small. And I am sn inside-sitting type of person. However, please know that their outside almost feels like an inside and I do enjoy it.

Yelp

Yelp
Meh. I ordered the quiche Lorraine and a chocolate croissant and it tasted just like Costco brand food. Coffee was good though. Place is tiny but tidy. I wish the food was actually good though.

Yelp
Delicious food, I had the avocado toast and it was very good, good atmosphere, good service. It's a very small cute place

Yelp
Jameel is nice, service is quick and efficient with a smile. the pastries are crispy and fluffy. The lavender coffee had good flavor to it without being iver powering but i dont know if i would order it again. Indoor and Outdoor seating but you're right on Washington blvd so pretty noisy and not much of a view. Parking up stairs.

Yelp
Well we got there a Bit late after Sony so had a snack. New owner. The cinnamon bun was fabulous. ate the whole thing with ice tea. Marty had quiche. Mushroom. Tables outside and inside, great breakfast menu, salads, desserts. Love French food. Yummy. Very friendly chef who came out to say hi.

Yelp
Really solid all around . Had the veggie breakfast sandwich - get it on the the warm buttery and flakey house made croissant. They also have a little table inside with some chalula hot sauce packets to add some extra spice if you're into that . I was thankful not to see tapitio packets like at most places . It's the little things lol ! I won't lie , I ordered a Carmel machiado and was surprised when it was this tiny shot with foam . I also forgot to order it iced , so my fault . Even so , the coffee tasted really good and was made with care . The tall guy who took our order ( in sorry I forgot his name ), was very patient and informative . Even gave us some suggestions . Really appreciated how he took his time and checked in on us during our meal . He recommended the French toast and said it's INCREDIBLE ... we will just have to come back and see ... sounds like some other yelpers share his sentiment .

Johnny G.

Yelp
Good quality food. I had the avocado toast. The avocado was at peak ripeness and it came with an egg.

Yelp
The cashier was waving at us before we even stepped into the shop! We loved the welcoming atmosphere from the beginning. The food was ready in just about 5 minutes which we really appreciated. We ordered 2 breakfast croissants, a raisin pastry, and berry muffin... everything tasted absolutely divine! The pastries tasted fresh and the hot scrambled eggs with the flaky croissant was exactly what we needed to start a perfect day ~

Yelp
This place is one block from my house. Super stoked to have something like this nearby. The only other place walking distance was Ronnie's on Culver that decided their once reasonably priced diner food was worth premium prices- it's not. So we've been driving all the way to Blu jam on wilshire bc it's worth it. This place is not cheap but it's very good. The French toast is ridiculously good. The complete omelet was great but a tad too salty (I'll ask them to tone down the salt next time). The iced latte was fantastic and the side of scrambled eggs perfect. So we will be walking here on the regular. I hope this is an omen that there will be more places like this on Washington and also on centinela and fewer lawnmower repairs stores.

Yelp
One of my favorite spots for a scramble! The croissants are addictive! The coffee is strong! And the staff are always welcoming!

Yelp
The food was DIVINE and the service was top tier. I loved the feeling of this small cafe!

Yelp
My husband and I had a lovely experience here on Sunday! We were lucky to snag a table as they only have 2 outdoor seating arrangements at the moment and we called ahead so we knew it wasn't busy at the time we went. The service was great! The food was yummy and the place is sparkling clean! What more can you want? The prices were reasonable too! I got the avocado toast with sunny side up eggs and my husband got the egg croissant, all yummy But the French toast blew us away ! We pigged out and ordered a third item to share .. so glad our waiter strongly recommended it because it was out of this world ! Indescribable! With berry's and cooked in butter, A Must try! We will be back!

Yelp
The real deal. Small, Authentic. Everything fresh baked. A local gem. Friendly staff and owner. Closed Monday and Tuesday.

Yelp
LE Frenchie Cafe stayed open for us on a rainy Sunday afternoon. Coffee and my swish and spinach omelette were amazing! Service was great! We will be returning

Whitney S.

Yelp
This bakery was very cute. I have heard about it and I am always looking for a good French bakery. I was riding my bike and I saw the bakery. I decided to stop in and give it a try. We purchased an almond croissant. The flavor was good but the croissant was chewy and tasted a day or 2 old. I would prefer a bakery that bakes their pastries fresh daily. I will probably give this bakery another try since the service was good and the atmosphere was pleasant.
