Why Quebec's Magdalen Islands Are a Must-Visit for Food Lovers
"An 80-year-old smokehouse founded in 1940 and still operating in a hangar-like building where much of the islands' catch is smoked over maple-wood fires; iridescent-scaled herring hang from the rafters and the owner serves skewers of smoke-cured mackerel, cod and salmon. The strong smoky flavors are paired with a locally brewed beer made with malted barley impregnated with herring drippings — a bold, almost animal-flavored match that highlights the shop's old-world curing traditions." - Taras Grescoe
The visit is a MUST! The merch is so cute. Staff is the friendliest

Great to watch the video on the smoking of herring. Many types of smoked fish to buy. It was too late in the season, but tours are usually available.

Interesting historical site with a nice little shop. We bought some smoked fish and there were also nice t-shirts and other things to buy. Worth the stop.

One of my favourite places to stock up on Madelinot treats! If you aren't sure what to get, the smoked mackerel with cajun spices is FANTASTIC, just fry it in a little oil. I can't get enough!

A very small shop offering short selections of smoked fish and cheeses. There is only one refrigerator cabinet of selections so don't look for a great variety but what we had, fish and cheese, was really pretty good.

The museum at least that I saw was very small (maybe more is open in summer) but the smoked fish sampler is excellent. Some really wonderful flavors. Could eat that any day!

We had an excellent tour of the facilities guided by the very knowledgeable owner. It was interesting to know that they continue to smoke their products the way they have done it for centuries. It is worth bringing home some reasonably priced items from their shop.

Everything we tried was absolutely excellent!
The smoked scallops are a highlight!
This is a smoke house that transforms locally fished seafood into delicious delicacies.
They offer a tour of their smoke house and sell their products in a large hall... I would have loved to see an even larger variety of canned and jarred products... (They only had two to three varieties available).
Definitely stop by for yourselves or to buys products as gifts!!!
