If I were sitting at a café in Montmartre with a group of seven people, each of them would be able to proclaim who has the best croissant, baguette, or overall experience in Paris. While they can argue about it, I have already made my decision. Le Grenier a Paris is my absolute favorite boulangerie for all things bread as well as some pastries.
I invite some open discussion on this topic but be prepared to bring the receipts. I visited Le Grenier a Paris each day I was in Paris and each day, they did not disappoint. The service is phenomenal and the baguettes, pain au chocolat, croissants, and the ficelles are in my opinion the best in Paris.
The combination of crunchiness, flakiness, and softness with pillowing essence with their croissants and pain au chocolats separates Le Grenier a Paris from the competition. I could eat my weight in Ficelle d'Olives. These very narrow, thin twisty baguettes have black olives and some cheese baked into them. Goodness, they are so delicious. The service from the team behind the counter was friendly and super-efficient, they do not need to take notes, as they can memorize the number of croissants, pain au chocolat, pain du raisin, and any other pastries you made.
TIP: On the day of departure, I purchased three croissants, three pans au chocolat, three ficelles, and a pain au raisin. Not only did everything make it through the airport in my bag but the remaining breads were still amazing more than 24 hours later when we presented them to our kids first for their first taste. The ingredients are just that much better than what is found in the US.
NOTE: During my stay in Paris, I visited Eric Keyser, Le Pain Quotient, and several other highly-rated boulangeries in Paris.
