Comfortable stay and friendly staff, but completely the wrong philosophy for a 4-star hotel
I stayed in a suite at Hotel Le Louvre in Antananarivo, expecting a true 4-star experience. While the staff were friendly and the room itself was comfortable, almost everything about the hotel’s philosophy felt wrong for the price.
The biggest issue was the bath water, which came out yellow and visibly dirty. For a suite in a supposed 4-star hotel, this is unacceptable.
Prices for extras were also shockingly high:
• Breakfast: €15 per person, and very poor quality.
• Coca-Cola: 9,000 Ariary each.
• Basic water bottle: 12,000 Ariary — and not complimentary, unlike any genuine 4-star hotel.
• Airport transfer: €25 per person (so €50 for two people), which is ridiculous.
I refused and travelled with a local driver for €25 total, which shows how inflated the hotel’s price was.
On top of this, the air-conditioning in the room didn’t work properly, making the suite far less comfortable than expected.
In the swimming pool, guests were forced to wear a pool cap, which may be a local rule but is not standard for a 4-star international hotel, and adds to the feeling of unnecessary restrictions.
Overall, the staff were kind and the bed was comfortable, but the hotel seems far more focused on charging for everything at the highest possible price than on giving guests a real 4-star experience.
Unless these issues are addressed, I would not stay again.
