"When raclette or fondue calls, I head here—many say it’s the Valais region’s best place to experience these Swiss staples in their most satisfying form." - Lindsay Lambert

This was, without exaggeration, one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had in Crans-Montana. My dessert arrived with a hair in it — a completely unacceptable hygiene lapse in any restaurant, let alone one charging exorbitant prices. Shockingly, the manager’s only solution was to remove the dessert from the bill — nothing more — as if this token gesture somehow addressed the seriousness of the issue. When I explained that this was the bare minimum, he became openly defensive and even told me he “does not take pressure.” This is an astonishing and unprofessional reaction to a legitimate complaint about food safety. For a restaurant this expensive, one would expect impeccable hygiene, proper management, and basic respect for customers. Instead, I encountered dismissiveness, zero accountability, and an attitude that suggested the guest’s experience simply does not matter. I was ready to order a digestif and remain, but the manager’s behaviour made it clear that customer service is not a priority here. Terrible management, poor hygiene standards, and an overall experience far below what Crans-Montana represents. I would absolutely not return and cannot recommend this establishment to anyone. Take your money elsewhere.

This is a wonderful restaurant with amazing fondue and a very attentive staff. Not only that, but they serve fondue for one person whereas everyplace else I’ve found requires a 2 person minimum. The “boss” very kindly squeezed me in before a reservation so I could quickly eat and he took time to tell me about the history of cheese and raclette here in the valley. Meanwhile, I had multiple servers check on me throughout my dinner even though they were very busy. Did I mention the fondue was absolutely delicious? Do make a reservation in advance as they are booked. This was a top-notch experience and a place I look forward to coming back to again!

It's an absolutely delightful traditional restaurant. They source all their ingredients locally, including the cheeses. You can even enjoy individual servings of cheese fondue. I opted for the goat cheese fondue, and it was simply divine. The staff attire and the ambiance of the restaurant exude a charming traditional charm. I wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant.

We wanted to try authentic Swiss Fondue while travelling through Crans Montana and saw this restaurant being well reviewed and right nearby. Perhaps we expected too much but getting a sack of par-boiled mini potatoes (some still quite crunchy) and some bread pieces to go with a bowl of melted cheese(s) was pretty underwhelming. But maybe that IS what genuine Swiss fondue is like and we just expected more of a variety of things to dip…as presented, it kinda felt like something you’d serve if you were low on groceries, or to a guest you wanted to go away. Our kids were pleased with the burgers they ordered, to be fair. And our unfriendly, sour-faced server may have been having a bad day, but that certainly didn’t help things.

Restaurant was full but they made room for us at the bar! Our waitress was incredibly welcoming and friendly. The drinks and food are absolutely delicious and the owner made time to talk to us and ask how our meals were! Highly recommend!

Google
Traditional Valais cooking including Valais Fondues, Röstis and Raclettes. Friendly service in an Alpine setting. We shared a mixed salad to start and followed up with a Raclettes a degustation which was a selection of Valais AOC from the canton. You get shown a map of where the cheese is made and 4 chesses for that evening. If you want more you ask for the cheese from the area you enjoyed. You also get potatoes and pickled gherkins and onions as an accompaniment. We also tired the tomato fondue which was different to a regular fondue. Finally for a sweet we shared a Toblerone chocolate mousse. Good food and the right place for mountain food.

Google
Very bad quality fondue and very expensive. I tried the 12 cheese fondue and it was the worst I have ever eaten. The bottle of water was open, definitely it was water from the public faucet. All in all doesn't worth the money and the time

Yelp
If you want to try authentic Swiss food this place if the right spot to be in. I had lamb on top of Rosti and desert ice cream. Everything was good. Not amazing but good. I would come again.

Yelp
Very good tartare. Interesting to add genepi. Fondue with goat cheese was nice as well. We liked the duck as well. Croûte au fromage was very big. Staff is pleasant. Meringues du mayen is a sweet desert.

Yelp
After a week of amazing meals in Switzerland, we had a horrible experience at Le Mayen on our last night in Crans-Montana. The table next to us was occupied by six very drunk teenagers who were screaming and pounding on the table and knocking over bottles and glasses. One patron passed out on the table, and a fight broke out that got physical and resulted in one of the party being removed from the restaurant, but the rest of the party continued yelling and causing a commotion. Our table next to their's was slammed into repeatedly and we could not enjoy our dinner. We finally gave up and paid our check before finishing so we could get out. One waitress did apologize on our way out, but the rest of the staff did nothing to calm down the party, let alone remove them from the restaurant. Le Mayen is not a restaurant to go to if you are hoping for a nice meal. It was an awful experience, and the staff did nothing to change that.
