Location on the beach is beautiful, peaceful and exclusive-feeling. Stayed in a room with a private pool with sun loungers. Room and facilities were clean, and staff were welcoming and friendly.||||Main downside is the restaurants. Food is overpriced and, aside from breakfast, the hotel just does not cater well to those with vegetarian requirements at all. On the first day we tried the Horizon beach bar and restaurant, however they had nothing for vegetarians. The menu states that if you have dietary requirements you can ask a member of staff, who can speak to the chef. I asked one and she just said I can order anything and they can take the meat out, however they literally only serve meat dishes, so that would leave just garnishes, so would not be worth it for the price at all. Of all the restaurants, only the Western restaurant by the lobby has a few vegetarian options on the menu, but the quality of these items is extremely poor and the ingredients are not fresh - cheap, store-bought sauces, frozen vegetables etc. Clearly a complete afterthought but you have to pay downtown Shanghai prices for it. For an international brand, owned by Marriot no less, they really need to do better.||||Other small details that let it down - there's hidden charges on the restaurant and bar menus - when the bill comes there are unmentioned tax and service fee charges on top of the listed prices. The hotel WiFi was not really working very well either.||||One silver lining is that we managed to get a round of free drinks on our second night at the beach bar. However this was only due to staff incompetence, as they had lost our bill. They covered it by saying it was gratitude as they were not able to cater to us for food the previous day. A good and appreciated cover, but this only came up after searching for our bill and realising it was either lost or never written down. Service to outside at the beach bar was generally slow too despite not being near capacity on either of the nights.||||Over all - if the hotel is going to advertise itself as luxury, charges a 5 star price and carries an international brand name, it really needs to do better on the details to make it worthwhile for the price.
