Le Merle Châtelain

I cannot recommend Patricia's guesthouse highly enough! Newly refurbished rooms, clean and comfortable with fabulous en-suite shower. Many extras that I didn't expect; fridge, kettle, bottled water, toiletries and good WiFi.|| ||In a quiet location, with good security, there is free parking and a pretty garden with table and chairs. Ten minutes walk to the beautiful old town with two castles and a really good friendly atmosphere, it's very much a locals place.||||Patricia was charming and helpful, giving us advice on the best way to reach Zermatt by car to take the Matterhorn - Gornergrat mountain railway. Excellent value, especially for Switzerland.

This place is located on quite a strange spot. It is right underneath one of the hilltop castles of Sion, on 10 mins walk of the city centre, on a street behind the fire brigade and a small wine bottlery factory. The rooms are comfortable and modern, with a good bed. And very clean. The host is very welcoming and helpful and lives upstairs, but is often away. But you can always phone, app or e-mail her. The place has private parking. Getting there by public transport probably is a bit more difficult.||Le Merle Chatelain does not offer breakfast, but it is possible to have breakfast in a bar 5 mins walk away. Breakfast there is good but basic (more French than opulent like in many other parts of Switzerland).

This place is a great alterinative to hotels. Especially during the "hot" season. Next time when I visit Sion i will choose this "bad and breakfast" again for sure. Price is much lower than in hotels, but the room is better. King size bad, good shower room, very cozy actually. and nice view from window. Breakfasts are very tasty and fresh: juice, cheese, meat, bread. Patricia can even cook what you like. and she is friendly. But be aware, that she can become very aggressive, if you dont come to breakfasts! you should come exactly at appointed time, not later! cause she bakes bread and is cutting cheese from early morning, and she really cares about your impressions. Thus please dont upset her, cause she really trying hard to please you)

We stayed a night here for cheaper than we could find a motel in town. It is located about a 20 minute walk from the train/bus station. The room is modern and immaculate. The shower is amazing! Patricia, your host, goes above and beyond to make you comfortable and to have a nice stay. This place is a real treat. Stay here if you can!

I wanted to visit Sion to hike the bisses, but was charmed by the whole city. Usually, staying somewhere means just getting in late and leaving early, and that doesn't demand much. However, when your stay can add to the enjoyment of a place, that enhances the experience. This was the case with my stay at Le Merle Chatelaine in great part by how friendly and helpful Patricia, the proprietor, was on my arrival. She pointed out directions to where I wanted to hike (the B&B is close to the most well known of the bisses, Bisse de Clavau), what I should see, and where I should eat (Cave de Tius Vents, a marvelous restaurant in the cellar of an old house). The location of Le Merle is not totally central but is within short walking distance of the old town and the two castles of Sion. It is also directly across from a famous winery. My room was comfortable and modern. Recommended for those who want a bargain and are not spoiled by Yankee standards.

Small place in a quiet back road by the Château de Tourbillon. We arrived late so no buses and it is a good 20 mins walk from the train station, but easy enough to get to and signed when we got close. Room was comfortable and clean. Door didn't lock but its a small place so were not worried. Breakfast at 10 CHF extra upstairs - good continental breakfast. Host was very friendly. Price 90 CHF for a double room. Most other places in Sion were twice that.

In perfect location just near the town center of Sitten (Sion) is this new Bed-n-Breakfast a very good alternative to traditional hotels. It has three double rooms that can also be booked as single occupancy. The rooms are nice, clean, well-equipped with IP-TV, free internet, private bathrooms and all you need. Breakfast is served in the kitchen/living room of the apartment and comes with everything one would like to have to start the day. The B&B is in a quite location and at a reasonable price.

This is a great place in a charming city with lots of activities. You must come visit Sion, and you should stay here.||I had trouble finding information and photos, so I am going to set the record straight and provide photos that hopefully will help. ||Here is how to arrive via train. Walk out of the train station, look left. There is a parking lot, and if you go to the street in front of it there is bus stop #4 going towards Uvrier. Get off at Carrefour de Platta. You will be standing in front of the fire station. Look at it, go around the right side of it. At the T you will see a sign pointing to the left, to the guest house. Walk left, keeping on the road, and look for a two story yellow house side-by-side with a three story white house. That’s it. See the photos.|| Le Merle Châtelain is in a great location. About 5-10 minutes out of the “old town” by walking, in a quiet area tucked up under the castle. The start of the famous Bisse de Clavau is about 300 meters, just straight up the road past the fire station, past the grocery store. We bought sandwiches and drinks at the grocery for hiking. There is a good Italian restaurant right there as well. ||Patricia is a very helpful host, very happy and willing to help.||The room is the Beitschorn, named after the mountain. It faces out towards the winery (buildings, not fields) and past that the vineyards and mountains. She has three rooms, all on the bottom. Two face out, one is in back. I did not see the other two rooms, but they were full every night.||The room was immaculate, clean and well set up. We had a big bed, desk with chair, closet, small dressers on each side of the bed, plenty of lighting. There are two plugs by each bedside table and four in the bathroom for charging. The WiFi is strong and fast, the best we have had in six weeks now. Very greta WiFi. God bless her. Good amenities in the bathroom, good towels, great modern shower with multiple shower heads and a no-leak door. Hair dryer. Refrigerator and coffee/tea maker with cream and real china cups. Wine glasses and maybe bowls/plates upon request. Great patio area out back to take breakfast or lunch. TV in the room with lots of channels.||Some reviews say you can get breakfast, others say no. Here is the story as of July 2016: Due to a law change she cannot provide breakfast. For €10 you can go get a breakfast up at the store/cafe I mentioned above. Or, you can buy food and use the refrigerator and make coffee… you know? Eat out back at the patio… Just saying. The grocery is maybe 200m up the road.||If you drive she has good parking. There is a winery literally next door, and you can go taste and buy. The wine was not so much to our liking, but you know how different people like different things. A WINERY NEXT DOOR!||Very quiet, we slept with the windows open every night and it was silent, and we felt totally secure.||This is a great place. I hope this review and photos help.||She has a simple web site, but it links to a FaceBook page that has some info but is not totally up to date.
